Hi all, I was waiting for cmbo cd.

I had asked for it via MO and I was surprised at the amount of time they required for us to wait, 4 to 5 weeks.

I'm in California and BTC are in Vermont, so I thought the guys must still be using the "Mayflower" for their deliveries. Or "Nafta", you know, you send it to Canada one way and it comes through Mexico the other way?

Well, not quite. I send my MO on the 15th of last month, now is just the eight and is here! just past the third week!

Another sign that they are clearing the warehouse and fast before the great event.

Thank you BTC, and congratulations in advance for cmbb, which now I know I can wait for it patiently, which I advice, it helps!

ps. I was worried that people using MO could be ostrasized. I guess this time we beat the "Credit card" sharks. Thank You, again.

MO? is that by check? anything by check takes extra long, which is why credit is more popular.

My, this is a busy place. The real deal must be as good as the demo I downloaded then. Should I buy Combat Mission or wait for Barbarella? I can only afford one. Why is the newer game named after an old Jane Fonda movie? ;)

BTW, Are there any lady strategy gamers here who dabble in wargames? I prefer to do battle with the guys cuz I like to win, but it's always nice to know there is another lady around.

If I order tonight, how long would I have to wait?

there a few wymyn around (one even did a game mod for the king tiger)

if you like some east front russian action (and some germans, hungarians, romanians, italians, etc) then cmbb is it. if you like the more familiar west front with its us, poles, french, canadian, brits, and germans then cmbo is the one.

if either one suits your fancy then if you want a more advanced one get cmbb unless you want to play now.

the us postal system is used to deliver so if you are in the continental us you should have the game in a few days to a week. overseas is longer.

Gotta jump in here. If you don't have enough firepower at the VL to persuade ragtag outfits like this to turn and run the other way, units which at this point of the game are easily routed, then you did NOT have control of the flag to begin with. Face it, a few squads would turn this rabble back in a heartbeat. Back in the day, when I was new, I'd bitch about flag rushes. Now I just face the fact that, if I let someone rush it, I didn't control it to begin with. I'd say less than 5% of my games has a flag rush ever been an issue, and I play only QBs.</font>

One thing some of us had trouble with at the So Cal preview was remembering that the Soviets were Allies. When we would go to pick which side we wanted to play, and were intending to play as the Russians, Actor would go to press the Allies button and we would shout. "No, we want the Russians, not the Allies." Then we would realize our mistake. I guess some of us still think of the Russians as the bad guys. The reason I mention this is because the Partisans are Allies as well.

    they're not called the axis?

It is an interesting idea, but I disagree strongly that WW II should be viewed as a "black and white" war. There is ample colour photography and motion picture footage (including Eastern Front stuff - check out World at War for some great colour movies, albeit brief) to convey a sense of reality.

A friend of mine is putting together some colour photos of Canadians in WW II for a future project; most unpublished. Seeing stuff in colour just reinforces the idea that what happened was real, not just some movie.

Nonetheless, your mod is doable - most paint programs allow you to save files as "greyscale" - the only thing you would really have to do is properly mask the pink parts.

Grass mods would be tricky, if you want to show elevation.

one problem: hard coded stuff like tracers, mortars, berets, and zook tubes are colored forever.

Anyway, been playing SP for a while and wanted to try my first MP game. I posted on the looking for opponent forums, but there dosent seem to be much traffic there. Is there a better way to find opponents?

    Thanks

it seems just the opposite in CMBO the Vets, Crack and Elite troops "seem" to be ALOT braver in combat conditions, they last longer and don't get hit or killed as fast as green troops doing the same mission.

This notion of:"Green troops, serve better than vets in direct frontal assaults because of their youthfully naive zeal and daredevil nature" would be VERY hard indeed to model, maybe the "health/youth/stamina" factor in CMBB will be a factor here but I doubt that will make those green troops "brave" with a "youthfully naive zeal", Just try to model that?! How the hell could green troops in CMBB model and display that "youthfully naive zeal"??

    oh well

    VERY interesting comment!

study the holy scriptures handed down by the bfc ones in the cmbb faq: they plan to make lower level units have the "human wave" command where morale stiffens to a point. higher level units will probably use the "assault" command in its place.

i'm not very well versed in pacific war tactics, but they japanese seemed to do fairly well at the beginning, only to drop in skill steadily as the movie progressed(like most war movie bad guys).

the parts where they were fighting well were pretty good: japs popping out of the brush a few feet from some marines and jabbing them, actual attempts to flank, and use of grenades etc.

towards the end though there was some silly stuff done by the japanese: the "attack a soldier from behind but scream the whole time so he hears you and turns around and kills you" type of thing.

    overall i liked the movie.

  11. i once managed to hold on till nov(comp exp at default, dfficulty at max). i stripped the brits of an army and built more airfleets. i had the low countries surviving army defend paris. i moved as many fleets as possible into the channel to bombard any germans on the coast of france.

any tips to holding it longer?

  12. 1) I remember BFC once posting a way to get the scenario briefing into a text file. anyone know how to do it?

    2) i COULD search for BTS posts but their usual member number (42) is gone. what happened? it says unregistered now.
