1. Ok, I'm a dope. I've forgotten the password I established for a PBEM game. Is there any way to reset my password so I can continue the PBEM? If it helps or means anything we're playing an Operation.
2. "War is not exactly a life insurance." Hans Rudel "Our enemies want war, they asked for it. I say, let us give them all they want." William T. Sherman "The mission of this unit is to fly and to fight, and don't you forget it." Hugh Mills and others "I don't care much for this 'why are we fighting stuff'?. We're in a war, a shooting war, we've got to fight." Gregory Peck, 12 O'Clock High (Should have been a real quote). "First class to the very end!" CAPT Pipan "Pipematz"; 1/SG1 FW 190 Attack Pilot who flew all missions in dress uniform. "As long as I look right into their muzzles, nothing can happen to me." Hans Marseille
3. My life is ruined...I'll never see the light of day now!!!
4. Don't worry, the Marder is 'surpressing' the Sherman. My experience has been: 1. As German, Marder takes repeated shots, misses, killed by flank shot by Sherman crew laughing hysterically. 2. As Allies, Sherman hit, burns, obscures battlefield for rest of my Shermans, while Germans continue to pick off remaining AFVs from long range.
5. Found this at the web site posted below. Interesting stuff: "This is a translation of a German training circular issued by the German Armored Force containing 30 basic lessons of armored combat on the platoon and company level derived from the Wehrmacht's experience against the Soviets. Written during the Second World War by a German company commander, these lessons are fresh with recent combat experience. The original text has cartoon-like illustrations and civilian "parables" on one page, with the combat lesson on the opposing page. Only the combat lessons are translated here." http://www.feldgrau.com/pnzfwd.html
6. I've learned that they are very ineffective when targeting squad sized units. However, they are very effective targeting 'individual' units like Hqs, or Flamethrowers or Mortars etc: especially if those units are moving.
7. I'm only guessing, but I would bet money on it, that it is a recent photo of a restoration and it's somewhere in Finland. BTW, as a side note, please observe the birch trees in the background. The subject came up in a recent thread on mods of how European birches look compared to their North American counterparts. If I am correct that this photo was taken in Finland, this is a handy piece of evidence on the subject. Michael
8. "It is called a Von Rosen cross because the first two airplanes, Thulin Parasols - licence-built copies of a Morane Saulnier design - that formed the FAF were donated by a Swedish count Erik Von Rosen shortly after Finland's independence from the chaos of Russian revolution. The cross was the traditional symbol of good luck for the Von Rosen family. They probably had picked it up from Indian Aryan mythology where the swastika is a symbol for the Sun and, incidentally, good luck." quote from VLeLv Icebreakers.
9. I fixed the link. Try clicking it again. Don't worry, the mod is out and boy does it ever look cool!
10. My intelligence sources tell me that the Tooth Fairy featured in "Blood and Steel" has large fangs and sharp, hooked claws.
11. Murpes: It's obvious you've been severly afflicted by CMitus, an insidious and life altering illness. Unfortunately, there is no cure to the illness, ie, not wanting a CM scenario or operation to end. I've also heard of a mutated strain called Combat Mission Barbarossa to Berlin (CMBB for short). Rumor has it that this strain may even be more life altering. Fortunately, many poster's on this board are here to help. However, the first step is for you to repeat after me: "Hello, I'm Murpes, and I'm a Combat Mission addict." Hang in there brother!
12. Blood and Steel is nothing more than an leisurely drive through the countryside, filled with yellow daffodils, birds singing merrily, and puffy white clouds framed in an azure sky. Of course, I also believe in the tooth fairly and Tinkerbell.
13. I'm approaching the 25th Anniversary of my 19th birthday
14. Just played this one as allies. Wow, this was a challenge but extremely fun.
15. My favorite: Remember, Custer was in a target rich environment too!
16. The view is not as bad as the one looking out of your fighting position and seeing AFVs coming at you!
17. After Action: Medium Rare (Eliminated "Just for Fun Games). Well, I've been defeated now 3 times (twice in initial round; once in "just for fun" games) and it sorely rankles me. Ted, there must be something wrong with the scenarios...I can't win one . Now for the after action of Medium Rare: THIS is THE SPOILER.... After slowly advancing His Majesty's forces to a forward hidden position overlooking the main thoroughfare, we came under intense small arms fire from enemy forces arcross the two lane highway. Suddenly, on our right, a platoon sized element of pioneers attempted an assault. Needless to say, the "Queen's Own" made short work of the german forces, relishing in our victory. After a short break for tea, His Majesty's forces decided to launch a counterattack, covered by smoke from our 4.2". The plan called for a feint by one platoon on our extreme right flank, to be followed by 2 platoons on the left, supported by all the MGs and Flamethrowers. The time ticked off slowly as we waited for a good smoke cover to set.......the first 20 rounds being the signal to launch the feint, in hopes of drawing enemy forces to the wrong side of the map. At this point, everything went wrong. An error by our young arty spotter resulted in our remaining arty rounds being HE, instead of smoke. As Maj. Widdlesworth looked on in amazement, the planned feint on the right flank went off without a hitch, while the all too soon disipating smoke on our left provided too little cover. However, al la Gallipoli and a sprinting Mel Gibson notwithstanding, the whistles having been blown, the planned attack by our left flank began. Through the heroic efforts of His Majesty's forces, a foothold on the far side of the road was established. Alas, casualties were severe and could not withstand repeated german assaults. The last surviving members surrendered to stop the merciless killing. Moral of the Story: Don't attack across the road without lot's of smoke. Signed: Maj. Widdlesworth Loser with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters.

19. Ted, Any way you could publish the results to date by side, ie, Allies won X and Germans won Y of scenarios to date? Just thought it might make an interesting topic of discussion.
20. If any of the 'eliminated' would like to continue playing, please send an email and we'll contact Ted for scenarios.
21.
quote:
Originally posted by SuperTed: More results from the GV Newbies: Hawk (German) defeated Dfgardner (French) by a score of 68-32 in Mighty Mouse. So, Hawk wins Round 1 with an overall score of 143-57 and advances to Round 2. Congratulations to Hawk!

I'll second the congrats to Hawk. Hawk established a well coordinated reverse slope defense, forcing me to go on the offensive (due to loss in initial game). Hawk's troops delivered several well aimed first shot kills which stopped me in my tracks. The last 3-4 turns featured at least 1 vehicle from each side being destroyed. Congrats again to Hawk.
22.
quote:
Originally posted by dor: To the division H.Q. :my armor,my halftraks my truks are under my own fighter-bombers fire.My air force is helping the enemy.MAY DAY MAY DAY MAY DAY!!!Get that bastards out of here, and I demand the air force general commander to be sent to the Court Martial! I'm waiting for a help while I am being slaughtered.Do I have to buy AA defence to protect me from my own planes?Nice, isn't it?

To the Ground Battalion Commander: Our bombs struck the target or the vicinity of the target. The Air Commander. PS "Vicinity of the target" is anywhere the bombs go while we're aiming at the target!
23. To the CMBB Team: Any thoughts to adding illumination round effects to CMBB? In a similar manner to smoke obscuring limited areas, these rounds would illuminate certain areas of the mapboard for a designated time period. Or does this capability already exist in CM and I'm too dumb to have recognized it?
