1. Wow, that artwork looks REALLY nice. I didn't know what to expect when I clicked on the link, but the map and the graphical modifications looked really cool. Nice work everyone. Thanks, Jim
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Los: LOL! I'd like to shove a 24 pound akward weight plus two or three 7.5 lb plus AT rounds in Baseball's hands after he's already been loaded down with 50-60 lbs of other kit, personal weapon and other BS and see how winded he is after walking all day with the thing and then having to sprint 60 or 100 meters. Los (not that some of the fatigue rules can't be tweaked.)

Hey Los, I have no objection to the data that you put forth, I can neither confirm nor deny at this time , but don't go making assumptions about ol' Basebal's physical fitness. When training for Mt. Ranier, I ROUTINELY worked out with a 40 pound pack on my back. And actually carried more when actually climbing up the mountain. And mind you, this is all on my back. Could I have run for any great distances? No, not really. Certainly no greater, or maybe not even as great a distance as the bazooka teams now. But, I know that they DIDN'T carry ALL of that stuff into battle. Espescially for having a second man on the team, it seems that their load would be quite a bit lighter. Wasn't it common practice, like ALL of the time, to leave behind non-essentials before entering into combat?? And, I also remember reading in an autobiography by an American soldier on the Western front, they would actually have their non-essential equipment (stuff they wouldn't need during the day) shipped in TRUCKS to their camp for the night!! They didn't carry all of their stuff, all of the time!! I agree that this issue could use a LITTLE tuning. No drastic changes, it just might need to be looked at. Thanks, Jim
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Guru: The 3rd tiger was taken out by a sherman as the tiger tried to face the closing infantry...

Uh, oh. I think that belongs on an entirely different thread!! Thanks, Jim

 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Rex_Bellator: I know it's been said already but it's ALLIED ALLIED ALLIED ALLIED!!!! The Invasion of Sicily and fighting in Italy involved many many different nationalites, IIRC there was even a unit of Japanese fighting within the US forces! Sometimes I'm more than fed up with the US obsessed view seemingly held by some Americans and especially Hollywood. I'm sure that most Americans have more than enough intelligence to know what happened but with posts like that sometimes I wonder. Patton - Pah!

Yeah, Rex, you're just jealous that the UK didn't get to join the war before the Americans took Berlin. But, I WILL give credit to where credit is due. If it wasn't for America's almighty industry, we might not have been able to win the war single-handedly. You UK-landers would have been the first people we would have called, though, if we needed some help... or some more tea. We promise. Thanks, Jim
 6. What?? Just 24 pounds? Then why in God's name do they get weary after 60m? Are they doing a flat out sprint, or just a moderate jog?? If it's a flat out sprint, then I can see how they would get weary so soon. But, if it's just a moderate jog, which I tend to think it is seing how far squads can run, then they should be able to go a bit further. Well, whatever. I know it's been discussed before, in the past. And there's no way any changes will be made, so I guess I'll be moving on now... Thanks, Jim
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Capt Canuck: I have a lot of info on [the]...TACTICS of Italian squads. Thanks, David

Hi David. I'm sure they would have appreciated your help, but the WITHDRAW command is already modeled. Sorry, couldn't pass that one up. I didn't REALLY mean it. Thanks, Jim
 8. Wow, the more I hear from BTS, and the more examples and explanations they give the more confident I become that they KNOW what they are doing, and that everyone will love their rarity factor idea when they see it in action. I think it can be assumed that they have a pretty good idea, *probably* better than we do ( ) of how the game will play out and how the rarity factor will actually work in practice. Their ideas seem to be pretty logical, and I know for one that I welcome all of the innovations BTS has brought, and will continue to bring to the table. Gentlemen, let us let the good men go back to work!! Thanks, Jim
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by DraGoon: How about a random additional time limit of say 0-5 turns, this would allow for the possibility of a counterattack on any last turn flag rush. It would lead to more reasoned planning and timing of the final assault. Now that I've said this I think I'll go do a search as it has probably been suggested before. DG

Yeah, that IS an interesting idea but it's been discussed at length for quite awhile. I believe, but anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but some people were suggesting that very SAME idea before the game even came out. And, again correct me if I'm wrong, but BTS *might* be looking into doing something like that, or at least allowing that option, in the next game. I don't really care if it makes it in or not, as I've never attempted a rush, or had a rush attempted on me. All of my games have ended in a surrender. Thanks, Jim
 10. Was the fighting at night, or during the day? It seems to me that a person should easily be able to throw a grenade through the trees in a forest for 30m's during the day. I'm guessing that defenders in the Hurtgen had to memorize tree locations for fighting at night, where they wouldn't be able to see the trees and could hit one of them with a grenade. Were they scattered trees, woods, or tall pines?? Either way though, these aren't rain forests we're talking about. I could go out to my backyard right now and chuck a grenade a good 40-50m's at a target. And I would say that I live in "woods". But, I'm no expert. Thanks, Jim

And I was really looking forward to that one, too. -Jim
 14. Pvt. Tom, secretely give yourself a 50% Handicap without telling ANYONE...then, proceed to purchase 5-7 King Tigers. Knock the tar out of his Shermans. Wash, rinse, repeat. That will put your old man in his place "and the man is a rock" -Pvt. Tom LOL!! Your dad sounds so cool. Is he looking to adopt?!? The guy whose father hasn't played videogames since the early days of Tetris, Jim

Seriously though, welcome aboard, glad you can find a place where your interests really fit in. Have a blast! Thanks, Jim
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Jeff Heidman: This is an area where, IMOSHO, BTS could really get a lot of mileage out of hiring someone to work on it exclusively. Jeff Heidman

Hi there, I'm not disagreeing with your other points, actually I agree with them for the most part, but I did cringe at the point when you asked BTS to hire someone to work on operation and operation design "exclusively". Last time I checked, BTS wasn't a publicly owned company. Yes, they've allowed for more input from their customers than any other company I've ever seen, but none of us really have any right to start suggesting to BTS that they should hire more people. While they probably do appreciate some of our suggestions as to the game ITSELF, they probably don't really need us to tell them who to hire, and how to run their business. They've got it covered, let them run their business in the way THEY want to. Same goes for people who tell BTS to hire all of the third-party mod artists for CM2. Yes, while it would be nice to have the very best art from all of the wonderful artists, it just wouldn't make sense in an economic sense, espescially when you consider that they already have a perfectly capable artist already. Keep the suggestions coming, but keep them to the game itself. I know I wouldn't want someone to tell me who to hire, or where to spend my money. Thanks, Jim
 17. I'd just like the option to have snow on the ground, but not falling in a QB. As it is now, you either have snow on the ground and falling from the sky, greatly limiting visibility, or no snow at all. We need an option for having snow on the ground, but not in the sky, giving limitied mobility but regular visibility. Would definitely be interesting for an attack and defense situation. These were extremely common conditions. Thanks, Jim
 18. I don't think the term "Jap" is that bad. It's just a shortening of "Japan" or "Japanese", which are accepted terms, so how can just shortening that be demeaning? Sorry, I know it's not that big of a deal, but I've got a real problem with all of this "politically correct" crap being shoved down my throat for the past few years. I need to rebel against the system a little bit, you know? Just to show I'm not a pushover.
 19. I'm sorry, but I could never see myself playing a game such as the one Commisar plays. Any time you have tanks outnumbering infantry, you've got a problem. Hey Com, maybe you like the tank battles more than anything else, but there is LIMITLESS fun to be had with a realistic force selection for BOTH sides. Having a platoon lay down a generous amount of covering fire on an enemy position while sneaking up another squad or two from the side is worth a King Tiger's weight in gold. And I don't care if that made any sense at all All, I'm saying is, I'd, personally, get tired of just throwing mass amounts of tanks at each other. But, I digress, enjoy the game in any way in please. Thanks, Jim
 20. This reminds me, I've been wondering for quite a while how often only tank versus tank battles occured. Did they? Or was there always some infantry involved? I was just wondering, and personally I have never played a completely armor game. Thanks, Jim
 21. Hi, I just had a question on the "proper" (i.e. realistic) use of AA (anti-aircraft guns). I really have no clue as to their usefulness in areas other than shooting at aircraft. I do know they are able to kill infantry, and knock out some light vehicles, but are these acceptable uses for the guns like the 20mm or higher, or even some of the German AA vehicles? Were they used in this manner in the war?? Any advice would be appreciated, I just don't want to start using these guns the wrong way. Thanks, Jim
 22. I think that people run into trouble when they form their defense AROUND the Victory Locations. I simply use those as a GUIDE when forming my attack and defense plan. It's the attacker's job to not only get the Victory Locations, but to come to your defender's location as well. HE has to come to YOU! YOU can choose where you want to make the defense. Choose good ambush spots, or easily defensible locations where he can't easily flank, or even AFFORD to go around. He can't pass up one of your positions just to go get a victory location, if he does he's not playing smart and then you can hit his flanks or his rear (you know what I mean!!). Final word...TRY TO LET THE TERRAIN, AND NOT THE VICTORY LOCATIONS DETERMINE YOUR STRATEGY. I *hate* VL's in the first place, though. They should just give "key points," and let the player determine how to go about his plan from there. Stupid VL's... Thanks, Jim
 23. Alright, that makes sense. Do the Victory Percentages DURING the game also take losses into account? Because, I've noticed that in attacking situations, the the Victory Percentages (i.e. 70% to 30%) are the same as the point totals at the end of the game. So, is this related to losses as well as territory gained?? Thanks, Jim
