  1. The Pz IV was turned into a anti-tank tank because the German Pz III was not up to the task. You said, "only Germany and the Soviets realized that the main role of a tank was to kill other tanks" yet the Pz IV of germany was an anti-INFANTRY tank. Then you go to say, "Both these same two powers built their tanks with the ability to be easily up-gunned, a feature the Allies were somewhat deficient in." Ironic that the Pz III was unable to be up-gunned into a decent tank for the war. The Pz IV was but changed roles from a support tank to a AT tank. ironic it was Germany who ended the war with a mryid of tank design while the US had stuck with one for almost the entire war. You do know there where those in the German army who battled against the Panzer arm? [This message has been edited by CavScout (edited 02-01-2001).]

  3. I wonder why the German PzKpfw.IV was built as a support tank then... it was built for KILLING infantry. Their main anti-tank tanks was the PzKpfw.III wasn't all that "easy" to up-gun either. In fact its inability to up-guned lead it to its demise.
  4. I don't know call for fire for WWII but today, they would continue the "fire for effect" but would not continue unless they got a "repeate" or "adjust" call. In effect, they would stop if nothing else came over the radio.
  5. You can not copyright a title. if this is your assertion, please show us something to back it up. The United States Copyright site says you can not. You claim your jobs say you can. You'll excuse me if I go with the US gov site. If you want to change the tune to trademarks, then fine. If not, please back up your assertion. 6. Rotations are how 40mm grnades (for the 203 and Mk-19) are armed. I don't know of any diagrams of them though.
  7. France is probably the only "large" scale use of maneuver warefare. Poland, on the other, was much the same old cauldron style of battle. Surround him and attrit the force inside. The Germans even returned to this style in Russia.
  8. LOL... a simple search on Deja using your name and in comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.war-historical would provide those "tangible facts". 9. I generally agree. There is a difference between, for example, Steve P's post where it is simply a mix-up between terms (copyright and trademark) and an assertion by Pvt. Ryan that he is right because he has this job or that job. Anybody, and I suspect many do, can claim something because they are on the 'net but you need to make it believable.
  10. I'd respond but then I'd have to hear you whine about it on the news group...
  11. It is the correct attitude when someone jumps and claims you are wrong by claiming it is "their job" to do it. It either means they don't know their own job or that they are slinging B.S. on the forum. Either is unacceptable in my view. JMHO.
  12. One probably trademarked their name. Also, as I understand it, trademarks only protect similar business interests or would affect ones business. A show called "Combat Mission(s)" probably wouldn't interfer with BTS's Combat Missions.
  13. He wouldn't as he probably knows what a trademark is. It is obvious some of you don't.
  14. Interesting as the US Copyright office says Several categories of material are generally not eligible for federal copyright protection. These include among others: Titles, names, short phrases, and slogans http://lcweb.loc.gov/copyright/ http://www.loc.gov/copyright/circs/circ1.html#wnp Or as their FAQ states: How do I copyright a name, title, slogan or logo? Copyright does not protect names, titles, slogans, or short phrases. In some cases, these things may be protected as trademarks. Contact the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office at (800) 786-9199 for further information. However, copyright protection may be available for logo art work that contains sufficient authorship. In some circumstances, an artistic logo may also be protected as a trademark. http://www.loc.gov/copyright/faq.html#q44 Perhaps they are wrong, maybe you should write them. 15. Likely, those crews were not multi-purpose like modern day scouts. A tank crew then, and now, aren't going to jump out to become infantry-like. Todays scouts are both trained for that and, more importantly, equiped to be dismounted. A M3 crew will have M16s (TC may be pistol only), a 203, a M60 and loads of ammo, mines, claymnores, grenades and more. A M1 tank crew will bail out with their sidearms and ONE M16.
  16. No. It was threat of "attrition" by gun fire that made leaving the city an option for the Brits. If the Brits didn't fear attrition they would have stayed put.
  17. Hate to break it for you but a dismounted scout is the same as a M3 scout crew member. There is no differece. Scouts are 19 series NOT 11 series and are NOT infantry. Scouts for an infantry unit are 19Ds. Scout AFV crew members are not tankers. They were trained as dismounts before they became crew members. They are not divided like a M2, who has crew and the infantry they carry.
