1. I prefer CM over Total War. Could be a preference for the period of CM over TW or because CM is just a better game. You pick.
2. On Point and on target. FFE. Cav ------------------ "Maneuverists have a bad case of what may be called, to borrow from a sister social science, "'Wehrmact penis envy.'"--D. Bolger Co-Chairman of the CM Jihad Brigade Founder of the CMers who like playing the Allies Club
3. Or they failed to grasp how far some players would go. This is silly. Nothing more than being given an inch and wanting to take the mile.
4. You don't need to be on something to own it. You just need to have effective influence on it, be it nearby hills or other terrain.
5. I wouldn't, not because of any "gamey" feeling but the lack of capability.
6. Blast from the past. "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it."-George Santayana
7. How is arty treated (or any other blast weapon) when it falls just off the map edge?
8. How can one forget? I just want to remind folks of the difference between "gamey" and "unusual".
9. I don't see what is "gamey" at all. Placing such units doesn't take advantage of the game engine. Having all TDs doesn't seem "gamey" as the doctrine was to have the TDs massed to fight enemy armor.
10. Of course it forgets that in CM you really can't "set up some proper fire plan". You have no interlocking fields of fire from your flanking units. You know this and your opponent knows this. 11. Odd... in both Bradleys and Hummers we are able to drive into hull down positions without the TC dismounting. Hell, we try and find one everytime you stop (not always possible, mind you). BTW, why are people against a HD command command but not against the auto use of cover that the infantry have or their ability to seek out cover?
12. An aim with CM has always seemed to be to avoid micro-managment. In fact, this is the argument against a better ambush system or a more flexiable pause command. Yet, there is such demand for micro-managment here. I don't get it. [This message has been edited by CavScout (edited 03-09-2001).]
13. Huh? Wizard of Oz isn't censored, you can buy it anywhere you can get movies. Catcher in the Rye had to read that in high school, obviously not censored. Cuban Cigars are banned because we have an embargo against cuba, not limited to cigars. Communist, socialist and others are not censored either. Where'd you get this info?
14. Quite a few Germans claimed to only be following orders. Rightfully, they were hung.
15. In your zeal to defend the W-SS you have missed the point. When talking about the crimes of one goup, the others don't matter. You can not excuse the Waffen SS for their crimes because of Russian ones no more than you can excuse American war crimes because of German ones. You defend the Waffen SS with a chilling patriotism.
16. They were not for the same reasons. While the American camps were foolish and wrong it was never the intent or plan to exterminate the Japanese-Americans. Pathetic that you have to try and compare the two.
17. Yeah and use this logic you could argue that the mafia and the bloods are good organizations with a few bad men... please.
18. Strictly speaking, no they are not balanced. Historical they seem to be and that's good enough for me.
19. Because they did, should these guys be looked at less harshly? Sounds like a Clinton backer... "Well this Republican President did this....."
20. Exactly how many people would admit to being in a bad outfit? Would the W-SS vets be biased in a strong way?
21. Not really. Germany was at war and had have several years to prepare. Holland and the Low Countries weren't and activly set out to avoid provoking the Germans.
22. He should have said "There are those that work in real life and those that work within in the game engine." Man, if I see one more mass infantry rush down a edge I am going to puke...
23. No doubt. I just understood the heaps of praise and endless excuses for their loss. Blame Hitler, blame numbers or blame this and that. I don't remember much being given to the Low Countries as they were over-run by over-powering German numbers.
