2.
quote:
Originally posted by hnh3_cm: No, no! That is the common Forest Squid. It is often mistaken for an immature Giant Prairie Squid. It is an honest mistake, as the two are nearly indistinguishable. I should know. I took three semesters of Squidology in junior college.

Oops. Sorry. My mistake. Maybe you can help me out with the I.D. of this one. www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Loge/1468/giantsluggo.jpg I'm told it's a Giant Slug but I'm not sure my source is 100% correct. Thanks. =) Kitty

First, there are always more allies because historically, that's the way it was.

"Always?" What about the start of the Ardennes offensive? The Germans had numerical superiority at the point of attack. That's just the first example that comes to mind. Kitty
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Muldune: I also appreciate the many replies that this topic recieved. I makes me feel welcomed, thanks! Muldune

Muldune rules all!!! =D Kitty
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by pritzl: Hey guys, Awhile ago, somebody posted a link to a webpage showing live firing of an MG42 by some reinactors. Does anyone have that link offhand. I've tried to search (both here and search engines) but have come up with nothing. Thanks for any help.

I know of such a site that shows what appears to be a real MG42 being fired but really isn't if you want that one. =| Kitty
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by barrold713: An especially warm welcome to Kitty as it is good to see a female point of view in here. Hope you enjoy the game as much as most everyone seems to after it arrives.

I've been here and had the game for a while now, but was never "borged" 'til now. =) The game rules. I started playing war games when I was about 5. My dad had the original edition of AH's "Gettysburg" and taught me how to play it one X-mas day, about the same day he taught me how to shoot. Yeah, unusual but it happened. Anyway, I loved playing and thereafter acquired a bunch of AH games, "Panzer Leader/Blitz," "D-Day," "Panzerkreig," "Anzio," "Russian Campaign," "Squad Leader," "ASL," etc., etc., etc. My first computer war game was SPI's "Russian Campaign" (I may have the title wrong) and then Close Combat, which I THOUGHT was gonna be like ASL, but just sucked and I hated it. Then I got some of the Talonsoft Civil War and Napoleonic games, which I liked but nothing is as good as CM from what I've seen. =) Kitty
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Tiger: Where did the impression that The East Front was all tank warfare or trench warfare come from? To foster the notion that tanks alone can win the battle is foolhardy. The battles in the East were fought by tanks combined with infantry, artillery and aircraft, all highly mobile and working together . . . Suggested reading: Panzer Battles by Maj. Gen. F.W. von Mellenthin.

Tiger rules all!!! =D Kitty Ps - Not surprising though. I mean he IS a kitty =)
 8. Apparently no one is taking my Giant Prairie Squid reference seriously. Well, I have pictures!!! Here, a young, not yet fully grown Prairie Squid snatches a P-38J Lightning from the skies over Europe. http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Loge/1468/haha.jpg Kitty
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Hawk: Er... you don't watch much Startrek, do you?

Star Trek? Eeew! You're right I don't watch/have never watched it. Anyway, thanks for the explanation. =) Kitty
 10. What's borg? Is it a dessert topping? Non-dairy creamer? What? =/ Kitty
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by Jagdcarcajou: Head on over and take a look (it won't take long!). Its officially in the ugly "I'm-not-sure-what-I-want-the-site-to-look-like" phase, so go easy on the aesthetic criticism, ok?

I only had questions about two things, the previously mentioned, the need to scroll right a lil' to see the right frame in 800x600, but the other one is about the table you have for PBME. What exactly is it? I think, at least I'm hoping, that there's one or two people out there as lame or lamer than I am so I think maybe an explanation of what the table is and how to use it would be nice. =) Other than that it looks fine to me and I'm sure it'll only get better. =) Kitty =^..^=
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Slapdragon: I think fully modelled battleships would be nice. And what about B-17s and B-29s on the ground? Heck, I would also like to see some U-Boats for the Rivers, never know when you will run into one of those....

Don't forget the Giant Prairie Squid. That 100 foot plus tentacled devil that could fly at great speeds for short periods of time and snatch bombers out of the sky, devouring them in their razor-sharp beaks. =| Kitty =^..^=
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Oddball_E8: And no Mega rare ultra heavy tanks please!

Well, this is really an artillery piece I guess, but since it moved on rail tracks I think it could be counted as a vehicle. Anyway, I think it makes sense since railroad tracks are included in the game that there should be something that can use them. Therefore I propose that the German 800mm rail gun, "Dora," be included as an update. =| Kitty =^..^=
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Mark IV: There is a gun store in Las Vegas, very near the airport on Tropicana, which allows rental fire of full-auto toys (note to rest of world: this means you can shoot THEIR guns on THEIR range using YOUR ammo. You may not rent a machine-gun and leave the premises, or rob a bank, and return it). Last visit they had an MP40, Thompson, Sten, HK MP5, and something else I forget now (maybe a grease gun or an Uzi). Sorry, nothing belt-fed. Shooting these things is expensive- the rental is reasonable (about $30 USD), but the ammo goes quick. To me there were only 2 choices in that list and they were both Deutsches Erzeugnis. This arrangement is legal, safe, and fun. Even the novice will quickly learn why short bursts are the norm for shoulder-fired weapons.

I know this thread is really old, but I had to respond to it 'cause Mark IV is the first person other than myself I've ever met, not that I've met him for reals, that's been there! =D My dad took me there when I was about 19 or so (he always wanted a boy and never got one so he did whatever he could to try to pretend I was one hehe). We rented the MP5 although I wanted the MP-40. It was SOOOOOOO fun!!! You're right though, you learn very quickly that long bursts aren't effective. Only the first three rounds or so from a long burst hit the target and the rest go high and right. 'k, that's all. Bye now! =) Kitty =^..^=

 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Wanderer: I am becoming addicted to this forum. Is this a bad thing?

No, unless it cuts into the time you spend on your CM addiction. =) Kitty
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Gotta love the 12 man size and high degree of firepower Steve

Yep. Size 12 men tend to pack a lot of firepower, no argument there. hehe Kitty
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Mark IV: There about 4 posts in this 65 post thread even referencing "girlie" things. It is about hamsters (epoch-making in that regard, and you'll HATE the thread where the hamsters live), and some interesting history of the SS and CM, not about girls. And it was cold and dead until you resurrected it.

"Cold and dead?" Hmm,m. A couple posts from 8/30. Hardly cold and dead. Maybe mortally wounded but I wouldn't call the coroner just yet. A post from another and more current thread directed me here. =) Btw, you sure seem upset. Are you crying? You sound like a girl! Get a hold of yourself, man!!! You sounfd like a whiney little schoolgirl!!! =) ROFL (reels in line, grabs fish by the tail and smacks its head against the boat 'til it stops flopping) Kitty
 19. I'm getting a little tired of all these "girly" comments a lot of people are making throughout this thread. "Cried like girls," etc. Like no man has ever cried or pissed in his pants during a battle? I'm sure more than a few women combatants of this and other wars would find your remarks more than amusing. Kitty
 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Formerly Babra: Because that's what most people assume. The only difference between abolitionists in the north and in the south is that in the north there were more of them, they held political clout, and were thus more vocal.

I'm sure that most people do assume that, I don't however. Was just responding to General Ization's comment about North not caring, etc. =) Thanks for the link in your previous post. I'll go check it out. =)
 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Formerly Babra: Not so. A war of aggression aimed at defeating a foreign government and reclaiming lost territory does not even remotely fit the definition.

Does too does too does too. States were a part of the union, hence the United States, hence one country. Just because the states that seceeded declared they were now a new country doesn't mean they were. =P
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Formerly Babra: Certainly there were. Why do you assume they were all Northerners?

LOL Why do you assume I'm assuming that? =)
 23.
quote:
Originally posted by Elijah Meeks: Gauchi, As far as the right to secede, our Constitution does not prohibit it

So then anything not specifically prohibited in the Constitution is cool to do? I like this idea. Think I'll go out and do whatever I want then. You'll come be my defense lawyer after I get arrested, right? =)
quote:
those states would never have joined the union if they thought they couldn't leave.

How do you know this?
quote:
As to those evil Southerners oppressing the poor black people, how does that explain the oppressed in Chicago, New York, LA, Detroit, etc.?

Who are these oppressed people?
quote:
Northerners and the Union didn't give a fig about the blacks.

So there were no abolitionists then? No people wanting to see more rights for blacks? Yeah, ok. Whatever you say, General Ization. =)
 24.
quote:
Originally posted by Formerly Babra: To slip OT just once more, some clarification is needed. A "Civil War" is by definition a war for control of a state, two factions fighting a war for control of the government of a single nation. This does not describe the American Civil War. The South did not want to control the North; they wanted to be removed from it. A number of other names have been proposed for it, but I prefer Héros von Borcke's "War for Southern Independence" as hitting closest to the mark.

Blah. It depends on who's doing the naming. From the Southern view, you'd be correct. From the Northern, they fought to do exactly what your definition says. They won and hence they choose the name. Civil War.
