I was a mechanized infantryman, and I can tell this much. It's loud and you get pounded alot as the track bounces along. Then whenyou stop someplace you spend hours doing maintainance on the vehicle that just beat you up.

Just wanted to throw of Cavguys statement that the Bradleys 25mm will kill a T72. I was at a Bradley crewman Medina Ridge (who was your 1st PLT SGT BTW?) and we killed at least 2 T72s with our chaingun.

One quick comment about the town combat scene. At one point it shows the Tiger moving down the street with the SS infantry clustered up behind it,this is a very realistic tactic that was practiced all the time by all sides in the war, after all if you were a grunt wouldn't you hide behind the protection of the thing with biggest gun if you had a choice?

One word:"overwatch" Of course that's all terrain dependant.

I think a flame thrower's efffectivness as a killing device depends on the nature of the target. In the open the flame is going to be dispersed by air and vegetation, when fired at a building the structure itself is going to catch most of the heat, when fired into a bunker or cave however, the troops inside are going to be the ones to burn because in that situation they're the most flammible.

Ever been in combat Strat? I mean that as a serious question not a flame.

Hi Matt, I checked with my opponent on this one,it's a night operation and neither one of us has even seen each other or fired a shot. And when I first noticed it I watched it about 8 times to make sure that was the case,I'm sure noone fired at my guys and my opponent says as far as he knows none of his guys have fired. It has occured twice the first time with a Stug III and the 2nd time with a Kubelwagon. The Stug crew is shaken and the KB crew is shocked. I'll send you the film if you want.

This is slightly OT but relavent in a way. Has anyone noticed the state of crews that are forced to abandon vehicles that become immobile due to bogging? Not just bogged but totally stuck. Their morale state is the same as if the vehicle was hit or detroyed. I.E. shocked or shaken with LOW ammo. Now if my tank or truck was totally immobilized by ground conditions and NOT by or under fire I'd be pissed off not shaken and my sidearm would still have all it's ammo. BTS?

my big problem with collapsing buildings is the fact that it invariably leads to people shelling entire towns into rubble for no reason. I don't know how realistic this is, but i don't think a platoon of sherman 75s would expend a healthy chunk of thier HE ammo on merely reducing an entire town or village into rubble...
Hell, Fionn admits that he HAS to obliterate EVERY house on the map....no reason, nobody has to be in the building, he just HAS to.....
I wouldn't mind seeing this worked on for CM2....especially since everyone is looking forward to Stalingrad battles....maybe a higher required shell caliber, longer collapse times, partial collapse of multi-level buildings, so forth.........
oh well.....I must admit though.....it sure does look cool to watch em go BOOM.....hehehehe

I have to disagree with you on the policy of shelling entire towns to rubble here, although it's unlikely Sherman 75s would waste their ammo doing it,entire battlions of artillery would,if enough enemy forces were thought to be concentrated there.CAS aircraft would also do it,and let's not even bring up the "Scorched Earth" policy on thge Eastern Front.

It's been my experience that both Allied engineer platoons and German pioneer platoons seem to break more easily than their infantry brethran.

Great pics David. I think one thing CM needs to add is terraced terrain and high stone walls, both of which were in great abundance in central Germany (Aschaffenburg)where I was stationed.
