1. I don't know about the demo, but in the game defending infantry often start dug in. To dig in a tank you have to select dig in during set up.
2. What was the experience level of your troops? Were they taking fire and out in the open?Green troops are also more likely to run than regular or veteran troops.
3. Ok,I am never posting a reply at work again. You were right.I came home and realized I did have the map edges wrong in the parameters. Thanks for the reply and making me double check. Don't I feel like the stupid one now.
4.
quote:
Originally posted by Leclerc: Loki, I haven't say CM will lose wargamers. I've said consumers, you konw guys buying games for graphics...

The other arguement ( and please don't take arguement literally) is that if a simplified clone came out and consumers bought it,that could lead them to look for more detailed and realistic games such as CM.Could Close Combat or the Campaign series have led some gamers to CM? ........Its possible. My gaming days began in the 80's with Mechbrigade and others by SSI.I don't think highly of them now,but thats a different story.
5. Thats assuming the tank crew could see the infantry. What you see isn't what the tank may see.If it had seen infantry you may not have destroyed it.Armor doesn't spot as well when it is buttoned. As for a safe distance from infantry it depends on the infantry.I try to stay no closer than 40 meters if I KNOW FOR SURE that the squad has no anti tank capable weapons.
6. You should atleast try the allies Rommel,if you can't develope good tactics with them, then how could you defeat them? Just cause you can't win with them doesn't mean your oponent can't. Try them and learn from them.
7. It took my copy 5 days to arrive in NC. I think it was shipped from Maine,so you could have to add a few days.
8. There will be clones, the gaming world has noticed the success of CM.That is espicially unusual for a game with no mass retailer. But the clones will sell, but they won't have the following or success of CM. Us wargamers tend to be hard to please and no clone would satisfy me.Even if one did come out that was just was good there wouldn't be a dedicated following of fans doing MOD's and scenario's.And lets face it. Having new scenarios and MODS really add to the replay value.
9. Thanks for the padlock advice Bill. I will try that the second I get off work this morning.
10. I have that side set for the Axis. I have also played as the allies with the set to scenario defaults and thats when all the German bunkers face north.Playing as the Germans they face West with no problem. I will try the padlock and see how it goes. Thanks for the response Fionn. Loki
11. It sounds like another winner.Giving the size of the combat in CM I'm suprised no one has done a hit and run scenario yet.But leave it to you to think of it. I wouldn't put the tanks on the RR Andy.I had a Tiger become inmobile on tracks in snow conditions during 1 game. You couldn't imagine my frustration level since he got stuck on turn 3. As for the Bunker issue you mentioned,I am having the same problem with a scenario I am designing ,except with me they are defaulting to a northnern facing.Yet if I play with the battle with the side with the bunkers they face west just as I had placed them.Go figure.
12. I don't see war gaming staying a niche. Look at the success of other games like Close Combat and Panzer General.Hidden and Dangerous and Panzer Elite also turned a few of my friends into wargamers. As long as quality wargames come out it won't be a niche.
13. I think the TacAI is taking inititive in engaging the enemy. That is the overall objective of war of course. Since the TacAI tries to simulate "thought" its only natural for a tank commander to want to engage and destroy the enemy. We all have an ego, even computer tanks may have some.
14. The problem with giving an option to play in real time would be code related. You'd almost have to program 2 games instead of 1.That would cut down on some of the details in the game that we all love so much. There is also no way in hell you could play a complex battle in real time. But if you must have real time there is always Close Combat or Sudden Strike. Of course Sudden Strike looks to be more of an insult to war gaming.
15. If you need a 2nd alternate I'm game.It sounds like a great idea.I used to play Steel Panthers this way and it really relied on team work.Thats the 1 thing that no game can simulate.
16. I work for a software company and showed off the movie intro months ago.It impressed every one here but no one wanted to buy a copy untill mine arrived and we got a few hotseat games going. Now there are 6 of us who are CM obsessed.Shows just what word of mouth can do. LOKI P.S. Thats cool of you to advertise the game Rommel.
17. I don't see why it would, the accuracy of the artillery may not be as good since the spotter may not be able to adjust the fire. It would make more sense to use the artillery followed by the smoke just to ensure you don't "accidently" take friendly fire.
18. Walls would be nice. Sand bags and trenches would be a nice feature as well.
19. I would like to see what unit is being transported and the target identified in the unit bar. That saves looking around and having to hit enter to see who is being transported. These would be real helpfull in large battles.
20. I created a scenario with lots of German bunkers on the east edge facing west. Playing as the Germans they face east, but when you play as the allies they all default to a northern view.Thats not good considering they can't see the advance. Anyone else have an issue with bunkers in the scenario editor with 1.02??
