  1. I play Germans if I want it to be me against the world. Ya know, a random map ala Civ might be kinda fun...
  2. I'll argue in favor of it. I'd hate to see it put in the realm of the impossible.
  3. I think you hit the nail on the head there. Tiles just call for a different balance in the forces on the map. You can't judge hexes vs tiles until you've seen what the designer has done with the rest of the game system. Demo...demo...demo... {c'mon people, pick up the chant...}
  4. Unlike Belgium, most of New Zealand is quite a way above sea level, but of course being an american, you probably think both these countries are somewhere in Asia, twit. </font>
  5. No, but throughtwo, three or maybe even four hexes, just like you have to do in Italy. But the end result isn't the same. Unless you count liberation of France and Axis surrender as the end result. Having to fight for the beach head and for the success of the invasion makes things a lot more interesting - or would make. Knowing that only one turn later your entire army is ashore and suddenly occupying a decent slice of France really isn't something that does it for me. </font>
  6. Did it, really? Somehow it's just too much for me to see the Allies land their whole army at once along the entire French coastline. It just aint right. </font>
  7. Psst, this way lad! Quick, before Madmatt sees you! Opponent Finder Forum
  8. Bad news from the Front. In a battle of TITANIC proportions, featuring Tigers, King Tigers, JagdTigers, SturmTigers, JagdPanthers, and, apparently just thrown in for the hell of it by rune, Panthers, I'm here to report uberkitties suck. Final Tally: SOV – 58 vehicles KO'd GER – 59 vehicles KO'd I really hate IS-2's and –3's. I'd really hate Boo too, but we all know he just had more and better tanks. I mean, it couldn't possibly be due to his tactical skill, now could it?
  9. I liked the "land anywhere" part of SC. And on that scale it worked. The real limitation was the lack of depth and ports in North Africa, making it worthless for staging into Italy, Southern France or the Balkans. With a bigger map I hope these options are now possible.
  10. I agree. I would rather see Netherlands and Belguim separate. As I have seen they are still together on the map as Benelux. Hubert? </font>
  11. The Eagle is flying. I say again: The Eagle is flying.
  12. Probably up in a cave, drinking wine and doing his daughters again.
  13. Doesn't help me, I'm a draftsman. I know in my bones it's an iso square. And if Hubert gives us circles I suppose you'd just want me to deal with ellipses.
  14. Since you can't move through on the diagonal, could I could surround a unit with only four units? Or will supply still get through on the diagonal?
  15. So I can attack along the diagonals but I can't squirt though this front on a diagonal? Is this correct?
  16. Hmm, 2D vs Iso (it's not really 3D). I've had a lot of the same thoughts that have already been posted. When it comes to strategy games I prefer 2D. It just makes it easier to grasp the spatial relationships. Iso does inherently distort distances to the eye. Did anybody even use the Iso option in TOAW? But then there was Civ 2, which was Iso, and that was a classic. Guess I'll have to wait for the demo to make my mind up (but a toggle would be ideal, people like options). Hex vs Square. Probably a bigger change. For instance, with a hex system you only need six units to surround one, with a square it'll take nine. And moving on the diagonal always seems a little strange to me in a square based system. Those envelopements are going to be a little tougher to pull off, that's for sure. But that's Hubert's job to balance that one out.
  17. I'm trying to re-invest it in a time-share in Ile de Saintes. [ April 16, 2004, 02:05 PM: Message edited by: Lars ]
  18. Yes. They only have row boats but can somehow take out the Bismarck with a fishing hook and an oar. </font>
  19. AAAAAaaaaagh!!!! If you idjits put 7-Up in my Cote du Rhone I'm leaving.
