  1. I agree with the above post... The "when it's done" policy does have the appearance of being somewhat draconian. We know we'll get a great game from you, and you have to know that we'll be more than forgiving if you're off on your estimate. If you were putting out crummy games this would not be the case. It's your policy, and ultimately we'll be forced to comply with it, whether we respect it or not. You have a tremendous amount of good will from us, and you have to know that. But the "when it's done" policy might give the impression that you don't completely respect or trust your customers. I believe it is possible that you're being a little bit coy about all this, although I'm willing to leave room for doubt.
  2. Okay, I've replayed the demo so many times, I'm now looking for new fun. On the first turn I declared war on everyone! This is an okay simulation of the late war situation. Germany is hit from all sides, and must hang on for dear life. It's not the real thing, but it's close enough.
  3. *bump* Still no definitive answer from the grand poobahs on this one?
  4. Thanks for listening Hubert; I think we all found a good game that we're honestly trying to make better through our comments. You can count yourself blessed to have access to the greatest wargaming forum in existence.
  5. As the Germans, my personal best last turn MPP is 428. I got up to that even though my industrial research had yet to pay off. I conquered the Low Countries, France, and Sweden, and received the 3 Balkan countries for free. Yugoslavia was hanging on by its toenails as the demo ended. The Italians left Greece alone. Anyone else want to chime in? How about personal bests as the Allies?
  6. 1) Strategic bombers should be able to choose to bomb the factory/resource/port in a hex instead of the ground/naval unit that occupies it. 2) Germans need a way to get north of Scapa Flow. Need extra hexes to the north. 3) No automatic adjacent detection for naval units. 4) Lend Lease.
  7. Anyone care to innovate a way to determine victory in the demo? By total production, perhaps? What would be a good total to strive for as the Axis? Allies? By unit strengths? Political conquests? It seems that victory would have to be calculated on the April turn, since the May turn leaves us without a chance to review the board.
  8. hmmm. What does the necessity of destroying the unit represent? What abstraction is in play here? I know that destroying steps costs the host nation MPPs, but the inability of strat bombers to directly affect the industrial capacity of a city seems pretty blatantly ahistorical. The enemy can just keep rebuilding the unit or shuffling in new blood to prevent that. And since when do ground units stop strat bombers from hitting factories? Willing to listen - hope you're listening too. Respectfully, Mark
  9. When an enemy ground unit occupies a city or resource, how do you initiate strategic bombing without attacking that ground unit? Does the ground unit have to be destroyed first, or is there some way to differentiate your attack so that there is only strategic bombing?
  10. Greatest frustration: The northern limit of the map completely prevents German naval sorties to the north. Even subs don't get through. Also, even with fog of war on, naval units are automatically detected when they come adjacent to each other. I'd like to see that possibility reduced. All in all I'm pretty impressed, and I believe Hubert and Co. have done a fine job.
  11. First time out as the Axis: France falls in mid or late August. I try strat bombing vs. Britain and get nowhere. Italy makes little progress in Egypt. Second time: France falls in early July. I try lots of strat bombing vs. London and get absolutely nowhere. This must be hard or something. I had three fighters and three bombers going turn after turn with no result at all. Italy gets to the verge of taking Egypt, using a HQ, fighter, and inf army, plus its navy. Sank the brit carrier. Anyone have any thoughts on strat bombing?
  12. I wonder... I know we'll get to see photos of some of the best models from the contest... ...but will we get to see some of the conversions to CMBB, ala "Alter Fritz"? Could be some mighty nice bones in there, once the winner is announced.
  13. Just keep refreshing the front page. It's the banner ad at the top, which changes every little while.

  15. Saw one there for Airborne Assault, refreshed the page a bunch of times without getting anything for SC. Did your hungry eye deceive you? Or perhaps it was a premature release of the ad? Anyway, I hope you're right regardless.

  17. Hey!!! [walks huffily into the room] This is an American thread!!! All Canadians out! out!! out!!! If I'd a wanted you around here, I would have baited the place with Labatt's or... or... whatever attracts Canadians. Shoo! Git!! Go talk about your mythological military somewhere else!!!
  18. Hardly a peep from Hubert the last few days, and relatively little action on this board. Will the demo come out a significant amount of time before the game goes gold? I know it was coming out "soon" a few weeks ago, but software development "soon" is often akin to "soon" in paleontological terms. I can hardly bear to hear another one of those awful "when it's done" proclamations, but I'm willing to put myself at risk, I suppose, just to glean another small nugget of info.
  19. Pak40, note that this thread began six or seven weeks ago, and that Moon's reply to my request is dated back in the third week of March. There's no telling when the game will come out because of BTS's strict "when it's done" policy, but I have the feeling we will be playing it before mid to late fall. For what it's worth.
  20. A little Greek lesson... MAZON means 'breast.' Add the alpha privative, equivalent to the English 'un' prefix, and you have AMAZON... 'unbreasted.' Good for combat; bad for the fantasies of lonely wargamers.
  21. How does Nazi/Soviet partition work? I see what looks like a fair approximation of the historical situation, but does the game account for the political division of Poland?
  22. Is the absence of a denial a form of confirmation?!?
  23. Regarding airborne: I'll play the demo and give it an honest try. I'm willing to wait and see if there is a work around in the game system, but I have to express my skepticism about that. If I feel like there is a void there, it's a no-buy situation for me. I thought it best to be forthright about the matter.
  24. Thanks, Moon, I do appreciate the reply and fuller explanation. If this feature would delay CMBB an inordinate amount of time, I might suggest that it become a patch ala the TCP/IP patch for CMBO.
