  1. Have your tried setting your desktop to 800x600 and testing if the game plays at that resolution. Delete your (pref) file also in CMBO Geoff
  2. Check your driver with your soundcard ? Have you tried with DX8 ? Do other games work ok ? What do you mean in lock ups on your machine, at what stage is the lockup ? Have you had the game running before or is this the 1st time installing the game Geoff
  3. Open hypersnap and go to (Capture)enable d3d etc, then capture settings below the enable bit and point to a folder you wish to save the pics. Pretty sure the keys to capture are Ctrl/shift/A key. Also optins and activate have a tick next to activate keys for the keys to work. A pretty rough idea on how to use it, i have only had it for a few days myself. There is a help file also geoff
  4. Pmiranda, i was wondering if you are getting VXD errors or blue screen lockups ? Geoff
  5. http://tweakhomepc.virtualave.net/update/vmm32vxd.html along the top of this page are numbers, click on them to see whats below. Worth coping what i have put here for future reference if you ever get the blue screen of death with VXD problems.. Geoff / Cubes VMM32.VxD may be slowing your system Advanced & Intermediate users Windows 98 does not install all the device specific drivers and may, incorrectly, rely on the non-specific VMM32.VxD driver to manage different devices. An early report suggests that the newer Windows 98SE is also at fault. A Virtual Device Driver (VxD) is a special type of Windows driver that allows Windows to perform functions at optimal CPU speed, and permits interaction with the hardware and internal Windows functions. 32 bit Virtual memory manager device(VMM32.VxD) is the VxD file that provides the primary functions (kernel) in Windows. VxDs sometimes conflict and can lock up the system. Your system will be faster, and safer, by using the device specific VxDs. Specific drivers are always safer, and optimized for better performance. -------------------- Checking your current drivers: 1. Go to Start • Settings • Control Panel • System • Device Manager • System devices 2. Highlight System board and click Properties, Driver tab, Driver File Details 31 If you see C:\Windows\System\configmg.vxd you are using the correct VxD driver 32 If you see C:\Windows\System\vmm32.vxd (configmg.vxd) you are using the generic VMM32.VxD instead of configmg.vxd (Yes! It is telling which one you SHOULD use, but it is MISSING!) 4. Now check (as above) the other VxDs 5. Note the names of any missing specific VxDs ----------------------- The correct VxDs: The seven systems VxD drivers required are: vcomm.vxd communications driver vdd.vxd video drive device vflatd.vxd video flat-frame buffer virtual device vdmad.vxd DMA controller driver vmouse.vxd mouse driver configmg.vxd configuration manager for the motherboard ntkern.vxd kernel driver used for the universal host controller You may not need all of these. ------------------- Installing the correct VxDs The specific VxDs are in the CAB files on the Windows 98 CD-ROM WIN98: Configmg.vxd driver is in Win98_47. The rest are in Win98_48. WIN98 SE: The files are in Win98_53 and Win98_54. 1. Extract any missing VxDs to _\Windows\System 2. Close Windows normally, and Reboot 3. Check that the correct VxDs are now being used (in Device Manager) Note: VxDs added after Windows installation are found in _\Windows SYSTEM\VMM32 Download these files These VxDs have been added to the Download Page (VxDs from CD). Please ensure you select the correct version: win98_vxd.zip for Windows98 win98_se_vxd.zip for Windows98SE For WinME VXD go here http://www.overclockers.com.au/techstuff/a_dos_me/ [This message has been edited by Cubes (edited 12-19-2000).]
  6. Many thnx guys, got it up and running know back to kicking ass hehe... Geoff
  7. Manythnx anyway for the help, i am trying to track down the post BTS put out when it was released. Dam i can't even track that down Geoff
  8. Checked but only found the new 1.05, pretty sure Madmat only does offical patches Geoff
  9. I just reformatted my HDD, and i can't find the tcp/ip patch to download as i need it forPBEM. I have used the search engine, just can't located a threat dealing with it as the search engine won't let me go this high. To many old post.. Geoff
  10. To Sean... I have the monitor set at 1152 X 870 (75Hz) and when I try to start the game, I get a black screen with a generic error message saying "Out of scan range" I can hear the music of CM starting in the background, but there is no video at all. Playing around with the video settings does nothing unless I drop it down to the lowest resolution possible. Sounds like it is a resolution or a HZ problem. Try dropping them down to see what happens. Don't forget to redo the pref file also each time. Geoff
  11. http://www.playnow.com.au/reviews/review_item.asp?ReviewID=700 Better give them a slap on the wrist as they scored multi-player a big fat ZERO. Do they count PBEM as non multiplayer ? Geoff
  12. Runs great on my machine.. P2 450 V5/5500 128 Ram WinMe DX8 Geoff
  13. I only get the flickering if i use ESC and then rejoin the game, other wise the text is fine. Geoff
  14. Parts from the article.. Best described as a turn-based, simultaneous-execution 3d simulation of WW11 tactical warfare, Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord may very well be the title that saves the dying strategic wargame genre. Battlefront.com also offers a detailed selection of reference material covering everything from military histroy to army field manuals, and their forums have registered over 14,000 posts. The community spirit that prevades the site makes it a haven of quality gaming and interesting information for wargamers everywhere.. I see they havn't dropped into the forum of late other wise i feel it should be a good review. Geoff
  15. A small section in this month aussie PC PowerPlay, they will be putting the full version of the game through it paces next issue. The demo was in last month PC Powerplay. Steve/Charles/Madmatt may want to fire over some information/pics they can use in the review. E-mail to the Editor is david@next.com.au (David Wildgoose) E-mail to the Staff Writer is brettr@next.com.au (Brett Robinson) Geoff

  19. Jeff, Have you tried fsaa at 800x600 then redo you pref file thingy and compare it at 1600x1200 to get a feeling for the difference. With my V5/5500 i can turn the fsaa on & off while any games are running to compare. Even at same resolution i can tell the difference. Do you have a v5 or GeForce ? Geoff
  20. As a few people have been asking about FSAA i took a bit of my time to search the net to find a few links. I don't think CM is a FPS game ? correct me if i am wrong. A bit of a catch 22 i feel, with higher resolution your FPS drop ? and with FSAA u also lose FPS. Geoff [This message has been edited by Cubes (edited 11-02-2000).]
  21. Ok non of CM this first link is to Grand prix legends (GPL) 800X600 Non FSAA vs FSAA X4. The screen will flick from one to the other. http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/hardware/features/voodoo5/gplani.gif This link shows non-fsaa to fsaa with N4 http://www.3dfx.com/3dfxtechnology/anti_aliasing.html At this link you should Download (large DL) Midtown Madness 2, it has a split screen with non-fsaa on one side and fsaa on the other, you also get to see the truck moving. Demo runs for 6 secs also. http://www.3dfxgamers.com/view.asp?IOID=2366 Geoff [This message has been edited by Cubes (edited 11-02-2000).] [This message has been edited by Cubes (edited 11-02-2000).]
