  1. I am having a pbem with Henri which is a M/E PBEM, it was started in 1.1b22 and goes all the way to 1.1 final. The game was totally unbalanced so we want to call it off using "cease fire". I send my cease-fire turn and Henri tells me when he checks cease-fire. It hangs up. I have also called cease-fire before in TCP game in 1.1 final but it is okay. Who shall I send my files to? 2. The official laungauge of China is PuTunWa, or some refer it to Mandarian was it is the language spoken by officals. China is a big country with various geographical regions and tribes. Thus different languages and dialets exist in the country. Cantonese is spoken generally in the GuangDong province and since most of the population here Hong Kong are origined in Guangdong, Cantonese is common here. But in Beijing or Shanghai, nobody undersstands you by speaking Cantonese or GuangDongWa. If you don't mind my voide is not good and professional, I may give it a shot. Griffin. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by MikeT: GriffinCheng+, please excuse my ignorance of your native language but what is difference between Chinese and Cantonese? 3. Manta, it is actually Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA). The air force branch is PLAAF. Griffin. P.S. PLA use Qualcomm but no Nokia! ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?" 4. PLA is coming to CMBO? Oh mine! BTW, we may have a Korean War mod when CM2 comes out. Congrads fellas! Griffin.
  5. Does it support bots? Or is there any single player? I tried CS with PODBot and it is great fun. I ask cause I don't go online often. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  6. MikeT, I am an enthic Chinese living in Hong Kong but I speak no Mandarin (PuTungWa). I speak Cantonese only. So I am not sure if I can help in the Chinese department. 8. Most of the time, I find a .50cal HMG is far more effective in the role of supressing infantry. I think it is the RoF factor at work. Flashing back my painful memory about the last TCP game, M8 and similar Dialmer are small and they are fast. If one keeps them moving it is very difficult for your opfor to kill it using PIAT/Zook/Schek/Fraust/etc. Also, I wonder the "global" moral for each side of your game. 10. Please note that the 'clock speed' is now a myth, it no longer determines how fast a system performs. Additional note, I have tried a number of tcp games between my P2-450 and PB and PB *always* do the calc and have better performance. It is just a little G3-400 w/ 64MB RAM plus a lamely ATI MobileRage 128 (and it is also on a number of Pentium notebooks) where my P2-450 has 128MB RAM, Wide SCSI-2 HDD plus a o/c GeForce DDR. What gives? I hope we don't degenerate into a "PC vs. Mac" flame war! Griffin. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by elementalwarre: what jobs actually announced at january san francisco macworld: - dvd-rw drives for a surprisingly low price - 733 mhz g4 processors with better floating point performance than any intel(-compatible) chip. besides, cpu clock only helps so much. after about 4:1 ratio for cpu:bus speed, cache misses make your faster cpu increasingly less useful - nvidia geforce video cards standard for most minitower macs and optional on low-end minitowers as for 4x agp and 133 mhz system bus - at least with these apple is no longer behind as always, macs cost a premium - or not, depending on how much you value ease of use<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
  11. ntg84: Check out his website and he has a mini-bio there. Not to mention there are a number of free interactive adventure games available for download. I am not affliated with Scott and still I cannot figure out how to complete Zork 1 on my Palm. Scott: Thanks for accepting my invitation. When your copy of game arrives, please let me know and we shall arrange the details. I am not a good teacher. May be a number of people pointed in the "CM Strategy Guide?" thread: http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/015022.html Also, check out various advices on what you should do when your CM arrives: http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/013965.html BTW, I have met a number of people (like "CapitialistDoingInChina" aka CDIC) claims to have no previous wargaming experiences, but turns out to be a very good player. Don't worry, may be you can turn the table. Hope it helps. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?" 12. Scott, I forget to welcome you aboard. How bout a PBEM game? (That a friendly gesture used by me) BTW, our next target would be Amazon guy or Mr. Gates. Oh, sorry but, I am going to cast the "Summon CMBorg III + Lower Resistance + Time Stop + Resist Fear" spell, hold on. "Asun, La-lia, Tallo"....Wait, where is that CMBorg when you need him? 13. IIRC, the sequent goes like this: "First the British laying heavy artillery bombardments onto the suspected German positions. But they caused little damange to the dug-in and well-hidden Germans. Then the British column shows up, make up of mostly Shermans, I think, down the road. The hidden German PaK and squads wait patiently for the front to pass by and then, score a flank kill on the third Sherman in the column. All hell breaks loose, PaKs, MGs and rifles roar from the woods. A number of tanks and HTs are burning and soliders escaped from burning wrecks are either pinned or running in panic. Some tried to fire back but only to add to causalities. The British commander in an AC sees the chaos orders a purple smoke grenade is laid near to the German position and the radio calls for air support. Next, as the combat mounts, the Allied air cover arrives. This time the Germans are on the run: PaK are KO'ed, soliders are running in panic or get killed as the bombs drop into the woods. Now the British soliders regain the grip. They advance into the German position with the support of MG and tanks, capturing all surviving Germans." It is just from my rusty memory so I decided to go home and play it again on my DVD player. Griffin. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Germanboy: Don't know how it ended in the movie, but in Real Life, according to Ryan, the air support was ineffective and the Irish Guards had to 'persuade' a German officer to point out where the guns were, then to destroy them by other means. That also was CAS <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  14. The air "support" Germans faced during Operation Goodwood and Cobra was also known as "carpet bombing" where bombs were laid upon an area. Caen was effectively turned into rubbles in this process. Interdication by air was practiced by both sides way back early in the war. It was used to interrupt or destory troop movements and worse, supplies. CAS was described by Germans early in the war as "flying artillery", and that infamous Stuka dive-bombing picture comes into mind. When a troop met with an enemy strongpoint or tough resistance, aircraft was called in to deal with them. As the war developed, CAS meant more than just "bombing". Specialized aircraft like IL-2, Hs-129, Ju-87G, Fw-190F/G, Typhoon, etc were deployed to "strike" enemy targets, with certain "precision", in the front. Remeber the part in "A Bridge too Far"? The British commander laid a purple smoke grenade to direct fighter-bombers when his tank columns got nailed by hidden PaKs in the woods. That is CAS. My $.02. 15. Hello Mr. Adamns, I am clueless before adventure games -- poor me. I viist you site and I think you should add "Combat Missions: Beyound Overlord" into one of your FAQ entries. Well, when people say that they grow with your games make you look old Going to cast my vote now. Griffin. P.S. I just wonder what if the Scott Adams of "Dilbert" fame plays CMBO too. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  16. Jeff, About to agree on every point in PC part, except AMD wins hands down against Intel P3 at the same "clock speed". Moreover, Althon FPU is way faster, and relatively bug-free. Well that translates to how long you have to wait till a turn get resolved. Griffin. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Jeff Heidman: In either case, Athlon/Durons are considerably cheaper than their Intel counterparts, and just as fast. Jeff Heidman<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  17. CPU: Althon and Duron are my choices now. I am going for a 1.2GHz Thunderbird which costs roughly US$300 here, supports 133MHz Front Side Bus and with AMD 760 chipset, you can double the bus rate to 266MHz using Double Data Rate RAM, but they are expensive. Currently, mobos with VIA Apollo KT133A supports 133MHz FSB and ATA100. OTOH, Duron 850 is a very good cpu for starter and it is a good o/c. If you insists on getting your computer to do the calc during TCP/IP play, get an AMD! RAM: No doubt a 256MB is the min to get into gaming, more if it is within your budget. Motherboard (mobo): I am a die-hard Asus fans but I read Abit is pretty good. Harddisk: If you are not going SCSI, make sure you get a ATA100 HDD, of course your mobo must support it also. Personally, I like IBM harddisks better. Now a 46GB (yes, not typo) , 7200 rpm, ATA100 costs less than US$200 here. Like RAM, you never get enought HDD. Video: nVidia, major player, so-so FSAA, excellent color, top performer. GeForce MX is cheap but just perform a tag better than GeForce DDR. 2GTS is good but expensive, but here it costs almost the same as a V5-5500. 2Ultra is very expensive but I am not sure if it worth it. BTW, it is rumored that NV20 is around the corner. (next month?) V5 has excellent FSAA, runs UT and Grand Prix Legends likea dream but I am waiting for the price of PCI version to fall. For more detailed treatment, tests, news, etc, I suggest you go to Tom's Harware site: http://www.tomshardware.com/ Of course, you can always get a PowerMac! Don't forget CM runs sweet on Mac too! Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  18. Yep, I saw that toy in Hong Kong RC shops too. But well since there is no Sherman to shoot at I think I am saving money for a PC upgrad or the Tiger CDROM. Worse, they don't have any CMBO-grade terrain to play on. But I am sure a online game with it would be cool. Anybody working on skin-mod on this? Yes, Tamiya site does not have any e-commerce features -- this s**ks! BTW, I have got a number of Gundam models to build. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  19. I am sorry I think it was "Gun Hit". Gotta be a FoW issue. NM, I think we can just end it right here. There was just a QB so I think no save file or anything left. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  20. Yesterday, I had a online game against Henri. I think I had a 81 mm motar scoring on his M4A1 and it had a label "Gun damaged" on it but in no less thatn 3 turns, his main gun was firing. It is a FoW issue or is it a possible bug. BTW, I got wipped in this game. His M8 escaped no less than 3 schrek shots. 21. Thanks for the head up, Peter. I must ve played to much qb...will give it a shot. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  22. Thanks for the update and keep up the good work, gentlemen! Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  23. Sometimes it depends on who get there first. If you generate a QB, make sure you check out the value of the "Attacker". The VF usually, I mean empirically, closer to the attacking side. So if you can reach the VF first and have good cover, you are generally in a better position. City fightings, or house-to-house fightings is even more nastier than wood fighting, IMO. IIRC, Fionn or BTS mentions that if you do not have a 2:1 advantage when entering a building, expect the attack goes foiled. It can go worse if the defender have powerful short-range weapons, like SMG or flamethrowers. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  24. There has been many discussions before about infantry killing tanks. TacAI determines if the squad/hq attempts to kill the tank within their LOS, sometime I think moral and experience of the squad determine the chance of making the attempt. If they have longer ranged weapons like faust, shreck, zook or rifle grenade, they may fire outside 25m range. Grenade are always used when the attempt is made within close combat range. To sum up Faust-equipped German squads are especially dangerous for tanks without infantry cover. Worse, if they got button-up or immobilized. Pseronally, I have a buttoned-up Tiger I destroyed by a grenade tossed by a British HQ unit from the rear. I have sent waves of squad to attack a Churchill VII from different directions but all in vain. The Churchill is finally silenced when it is immobilized and then killed by a hidden faust, after scoring 40 infantry causalities. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
  25. Thanks again. I use ADSL (PPPoE) at home but Mac is famous for efficent TCP/IP so I am not that worry, night is long here in HK. Griffin. ------------------ "When you find your PBEM opportents too hard to beat, there is always the AI." "Can't get enough Tank?"
