  1. Ummm, what sort of 8MB video card is that? Voodoo 2, or lower? If so then that is the problem. Voodoo 2s and equivalents will not support transparencies no matter what you do. I suggest buying a new video card anyway. An 8MB card is obsolete three times over now these days. (16MB, 32MB, 64MB cards). I've got a 64MB Geforce 2 GTS and it still stutters, but of course I have every texture in hi-res and running at 1280x1024.
  2. Yeah, I think it was originally written with DirectX 7.0 in mind, but with DirectX 8.0 being out there it still does work. I just recently upgrade to 8.0 with game I just bought and it still works fine I think.
  3. Hmmm, that's interesting. I'll have to check this out sometime.
  4. I my personal opinion, you'd do yourself a big favor by getting an Nvidia card of some sort. Preferably a GeForce, but a TNT2 will still work fine. Since 3Dfx is no more, it would be wise to dump any of their products in favor of a card that is made by a company that still exists. For example, I'm running a 64MB Geforce 2 GTS and my display still slugs around on huge maps with everything in hi-res. I'm trying to play "Berlin-The Final Battle" and my display jumps around something aweful. I'm running a 1.2GHz Athlon too BTW.
  5. However that still doesn't explain why my troops suck. BTS fix it or do somefink!
  6. Let's try this: Ahhh, there we go. Well I looked in the venerable Encyclopedia of German Tanks of WWII and found the E-100. It has a very similar chassis. The wheels and front hull look about the same. But the rest of the hull superstructure is different. The picture shown is without turret. However it mentions a 150mm main gun though. My screenshots are huge. But what I do is to shrink their dimensions down by at least 60%. (EDIT: Err, umm...I meant 60% of their original size so actually only about 20-40% reduction) In fact, if the screenshot comes out to something close to a "standard" resolution, I use that standard resolution. Yes, it may distort it a little, but not enough to notice. For example, if my screenshot comes out to something like 843x624, I'll resize it to 800x600. Actually I posted this whole point to the wrong person. It's gunnergoz who is posting really BIG pictures. He posts pic that are 650K. [ 07-12-2001: Message edited by: Maximus ]<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

  9. Hi mom! Why would you wanna do that anyway? The game doesn't/wouldn't run from the CD. It just does a CD check to launch the game. The only way to do what you want is to make a back-up copy with a burner just for your own use. However, my CD has its share of scratches and stuff, but it still reads just fine.
  10. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by JAT: To all: Other than having all 16 Shermans in black camo, the big thing is the batch file. It allows making pifs for both red and black camo (and a 3rd set of camo/non-camo MODs), thus saving lots of hassles of renaiming files to get the files you want to show. If you want GEM's black camo to show up, just use it as normal (camo only in your pif/texture file and having GEM's files named with the _us_camo suffix). Use the "camo black" argument to bring up The Black Pack and use "camo red" to bring up GEM's Red Camo. All this without having to rename files each time. The "camo" (only) now can include other files. Like, if you have 2 sets of hand weapons that you like, name one set with the _us suffix and name the other set with the _us_camo suffix. Of course you'll need to write the code in the batch file for these weapons to switch. You could even have a 3rd and 4th set of weapons named with the "_camor" or "_camob" suffix. Remember that these sets would be matched with the set of Camouflage that you choose. This is assuming that you use the usandff.bat file. If you write your own batch file, the possibilities are limitless as to what set of weapons you can put with what set of camo. Note: weapons is just an example. Uniforms, faces, vehicles, support weapons; any of these and more could use the additional coding for easy switching using pifs/short cuts. I usually won't take the time to go in a rename files if I'm even a little bit satisfied with my current choice. Lazy.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> A note about this whole thing. I don't know if you are aware, but in the near future Gordon will be releasing a whole new "Swap Tool" that ELINIMATES the batch files. It is called CMMOS (Combat Mission Mod Option Selector). It is an executable (.exe) and is very easy to install and operate. No more batch files, shortcuts, icons, etc. So in other words, your said batch file code will soon become obsolete. I'm not saying that you still couldn't use it, but you might consider just writing one that only involves just your mod as everything else will be taken care of with this new program. I did contact Gordon about your mod and asked him if he had looked at it and would consider writing what we are calling Rule Sets to implement your mod, but he's not sure he wants to do that at the moment for whatever reason. So just think about it and maybe come up with a truncated version of your batch file to include just your mod.
  11. Was this bright yellow standard issue? It looks a bit bright to me. Do you have some photos you could post to show what you're going off of? Andrew, did you get my screenshots of my revised Feldgrau version of your Field Grey Heer uniform? [ 07-12-2001: Message edited by: Maximus ]
  12. All 8 are there. He's just got 5 screenshots. Each house only consists of 3 files. Front, back, and side. I had to lighten my set up a bit. They were just WAY to dark. The roof tiles were extremely dark. They looked almost black when I opened up the folder to look at the bitmaps.
  13. Well, as far as good British Tanks, the Fireflys are definately something to watch out for. With tungsten use fixed since v1.1, no German tank is safe from them at practically any range. Just play "Villers Boccage-Tiger!" and you'll see what I mean. But the major drawback to the other "pure" British tanks is their flat armor plates. It doesn't take much to penetrate a verticle armor plate.

  15. Well the best I can do is to point you to the ever so informative and entertaining FAQ thread. Informative as being full of information that one wouldn't find in the manual and/or explain odd behaviors in the game's AI, etc. And Entertaining as in the continuous story being told by a affectionate group known as the FAQ'ers to keep the FAQ thread somewhere near the first page of the Forum.

What would a 1.33GHz Mac cost? $5000?
  19. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Lord General MB: Sir, Ahhhh... Max..... weres the pics? I'm getting this photo point unavalible thing.....<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Me too. I don't know what the deal is. They were there on the site when I copied the URL, I have no idea why they aren't displaying here. Might be a PhotoPoint problem or service that they no longer support.
  20. OK, well here's my stab at this Feldgrau thing. Trying to achieve this look: I have taken Andrew Fox's excellent hi-res Heer uniform and done this: and while I was at it, I whipped up a winter version as well including mittens! IMHO, this color is about as close as you're gonna get to the above "live" picture.
  21. EGADS! YOWZZA! I'm burned my eyes! Somebody turn down the brightness on that grass! LOL! I haven't seen grass like that since the Gold Demo.
  22. Tanks, Just a little bit of advice, shrink your screenshots a little they take a little too long to load.
  23. Yes, processor speed is probably your best bet. Of course having at least 256 MB of fast RAM probably doesn't hurt either. By fast RAM I mean, at least PC133 SDRAM or better such as DDR. But upgrading from a Celeron 433 to a 1.2 GHz Athlon, there is a world of difference is both graphic processing and turn processing.
