1. Second week of Feb 00, and someone a few miles away (who I might have to go visit--Hi JWorthing) already got a copy on Monday!! I want my CM.
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Seahawk-vfa201: Well, looks like in California the latest who ordered got it first. There's hope then I'll get it tomorrow: ordered 3 weeks ago. Cya

Must be something like that, I ordered in February and still haven't got it. I think JWorthing stole my copy off the porch. This is a good way to check on USPS performance--Express Mail doesn't seem to be all that consistent. I only live a few miles from JWorthing (who received it on Monday) and I won't get it before Wednesday now. [This message has been edited by chrisl (edited 06-21-2000).]
 3. I actually had to ask someone at work who they were playing (yes I'm a serious geek).
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by GreasyPig: I can only imagine the kind of extreme heat and warpage is going on inside my mailbox as I sit here at work. (If its even there). On the bright side its only supose to be 106 here today in Az.

I wouldn't worry about the disk- I actually boiled one of those AOL cds that you get every day just to see if it would still work. It was just fine.
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by JWorthing: Got it here in the SGV, Los Angeles county.

Not me and I'm only a few miles away.
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Scott Clinton: Boy...I will be one major grumbler if all the SS troops (even just armor) in CM are rated as "Elite".

One of my favorite units in Squad Leader (I think it came in the COI box) was a 6+1 SS leader. I can't remember the name. My other favorite was Lt. Stahler, a 9-2 who seemed to be in every scenario, and when you were rolling for his fire you had a much better chance of snake eyes.
 7. There was a URL to an interview with a WWII tank team posted here a few weeks ago (if I get motivated I'll search for it). They said they kept the escape hatch lubed up really well so all you had to do was look at it funny and it would flip open so they could get out. They also gave a couple accounts of bailing out-- the last thing on their minds was a grease gun. The important thing was getting out of the tank and hiding. They (or another crew) did engage in some heroics, but it was dashing through enemy fire with a litter to retrieve a wounded tanker, not rushing a foxhole with their automatic weapons.
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by Scott C: \the US (mine would probably be Kansas City) would take Saturday and maybe part of Sunday, at which point it is sorted and transported to the local post office, where they should arrive about late Sunday, to be sorted into routes and delivered today.

Yeah, but that doesn't take into account traffic on the 105 out of LAX. There will probably be some terrible crash on the 105 and the USPS truck with my copy on it will be held up for 10 hours while they scrape the cars off the road or, even worse, involved in the crash.
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by OberGrupenStompinFeuhrer!: This is a purely subjective and emotive observation, but it seems to me that when I play as Axis, my schreck men are for the most part lilly livered, run-away, die like flies wastes of space (Well, *once* I had a chap who stood up and actualy fired at the flank of a Sherman efffectively)

In several games of CE against the AI (I always play the Germs in that situation) I've had the conscript schreck teams up in the west end of the woods on the right plink Shermans at a pretty good distance (100-150 m). One of them even popped two of them in consecutive turns. I think they usually were firing from relative cover (along one of the clear trails in the woods), in C&C, and had seen no incoming fire to that point (hidden). They walked up, looked for *waaaay* too long, and started letting fly with the rockets at Shermans in the open that were usually unsuspecting (firing into the church from partway up the hill).
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by JWorthing: wonder if i'll get mine before chrisl

My mail carrier usually shows up between 11 am and noon, but I probably won't get home from work until 7 or so. Are we counting when it hits the mailbox or when it hits the spindle of my CD drive
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by Capt. Manieri: Pasadena California, Your highway milage is: 2,947 Miles

AAAAAAUUUUGGGHHHHH!!!! I suppose if it gets onto an airplane at Boston and flys to LAX it might be pretty quick, but if it's in a truck I may as well be in Europe! 12. Haven't played with the Tiger yet (because I'm on the west coast and haven't got The Game), but even the Panther doesn't have much of a chance against well organized superior numbers of Shermans. In my two VoT PBEM matches (once as each side) the Panther didn't score any Sherman kills. Once it suffered a gun hit from the very first shot fired at it (really annoying), the second time it managed to decimate an MMG team that was really no longer in the action before suffering two direct hits broadside at 50 m from a Sherman (I had 6 shermans left when it showed up, though one was brewed by the sIG while hunting the Panther). The Panther has really nice front armor, and a good gun, but the turret is slow, and a well organized attack can force it to expose its weaker side/rear armor.
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by MuaHaHaHa: I am using CoolColJ's Enhanced Audio MOD and I get distortion with that but not the original sounds. It is not the actual sounds containing the distortion though.

The distortion that I get when I don't have enough memory sometimes sounds as if things are being slowed way down, and other times as if the sounds are being resampled at a much lower frequency in playback, so they get all choppy and weird. Occasionally it just sounds like it's clipping. When I relaunch CM it's usually just fine.
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by MuaHaHaHa: I gave CM 128MB of RAM and it still happened.

What are you changing the sounds to/with? Do you ever get distortion with the original sounds? (I don't have any more ideas, but I'd like to be able to change sounds without distortion too).
 15. I think it's a memory thing. Try setting the preferred memory to a much larger number. I've noticed the same problem, and usually it happens when theres a whole lot going on (smoke, lots of infantry running around, gunfire everywhere, screaming wounded etc.) Usually if I close a bunch of things and relaunch CM everything is fine (I have a lot of memory, but I also tend to edit very large files, so usually word and powerpoint are set to 60 meg or more.). I think I've got CM set to 60 meg now, and when I launch it with enough space available the sounds are ok (105 mm artillery in VoT is downright frightening if you're watching it from view 1 on the receiving end-- it freaked out the cats, too).
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by fubart: Give the developers a week in Hawaii (jungle inspiration, you know) and let 'em begin.

I know of a really nice little house on stilts in the rainforest on the Big Island (near Volcano Village) that they could stay in for inspiration. Spent two weeks there, rained 25 inches, and that was about average, but it's very pleasant rain. They could even help patrol the property perimeters for pakololo plants.
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by guachi: If someone could put together a 'regional accent' pack, that would be really sweet. I'm tired of hear Madmatt's voice. Jason

The guy doing some of the German phrases ("Fur das Vaterland" and "Mein Bein" sounds like some kind of regional accent. Does anyone know what it is (the person who did it is probably a member here).
 18. Do you know what date of preorders they're up to? I'm dying on the west coast at the thought that it could go out tuesday and take as much as a week. I might have to see if I can find time to fly out and pick up a copy!
 19.
quote:
Originally posted by grunto: for instance if you have a fast-move-crawl order and you get rid of the -move-crawl but keep the fast, then you can tack on another fast-move for example. has anyone else noticed this?

If you watch carefully you should see a pause between the old orders (that were given previously) and the ones you gave after you deleted several waypoints. It's pretty noticable when units are out of C&C, but if they're in C&C it will be the typical 8-13 seconds that you get for a new order on a healthy unit. It took me a while to notice it, but it is a pretty cool feature.
 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Madmatt: Ahh yes, you must mean the HGGUToWCKv3.4IIPMoWEEP? Yeah thats going to rock!!!

But I heard it wasn't going to include quantum gravity. They can't really claim it's realistic without including quantum gravity!
 21. If you really have to do the cut and paste thing, use BBEdit or BBEdit Lite (which is Freeware). It's a text editor only and there won't be any problem with accidentally saving as a word processor file.
 22. I had a worse one: I got home from work and there was a package about 6"x8", thick yellow packing envelope with priority mail tape wrapped around it. I got excited-- "They lied to us-they shipped it early!" I saw the return address was in Florida, and decided it couldn't be CM, but still couldn't figure out who it could be from. I looked at it to make sure it wasn't from the next unabomber, and opened one end, looking inside. I saw a medium thickish book, and as I pulled it out I saw the word "Beyond" at the top. "It is it!" forgetting all about florida-- it must say "Beyond Overlord". To my chagrin it said "Beyond Our National Parks" and was a slightly late birthday present from a family friend. It was horrible.
