1. Thought I'd share this........has a certain applicability to this place: Daily Affirmations for the Unstable I no longer need to punish, deceive or compromise myself. Unless, of course, I want to stay employed. A good scapegoat is nearly as welcome as a solution to the problem. As I let go of my feelings of guilt, I can get in touch with my Inner Sociopath. I have the power to channel my imagination into ever-soaring levels of suspicion and paranoia. Today, I will gladly share my experience and advice, for there are no sweeter words than "I told you so." I need not suffer in silence while I can still moan, whimper and complain. As I learn the innermost secrets of the people around me, they reward me in many ways to keep me quiet. I assume full responsibility for my actions, except the ones that are someone else's fault. I honor my personality flaws, for without them I would have no personality at all. Joan of Arc heard voices too. When someone hurts me, forgiveness is cheaper than a lawsuit, but not nearly as gratifying. The first step is to say nice things about myself. The second, to do nice things for myself. The third, to find someone to buy me nice things. As I learn to trust the universe, I no longer need to carry a gun. Just for today, I will not sit in my living room all day watching TV. Instead I will move my TV into the bedroom. Who can I blame for my own problems? Give me just a minute... I'll find someone. Why should I waste my time reliving the past when I can spend it worrying about the future? I will find humor in my everyday life by looking for people I can laugh at. I am willing to make the mistakes if someone else is willing to learn from them. ------------------ If frogs had uzi's, snakes woudn't mess with them so much. - Hiram
 2. Lorak Sorry to disturb you again but there's another win to chalk up. JD-Win Chupcheeks- Loss Thank you ever so much ------------------ If frogs had uzi's, snakes woudn't mess with them so much. - Hiram
 3. For Peng: Wishing you a well and speedy recovery. After all you are high on my soon to dismember list. ------------------ If frogs had uzi's, snakes woudn't mess with them so much. - Hiram [This message has been edited by jdmorse (edited 12-16-2000).]
 4. The Oedipal battle to kill me and shag his mum is over. CrawdadwholosesasmuchasHiram has agreed to a cease fire resulting in a victory for truth, justice and multiple billing practices. Frankly, a surrender could have been forced eventually, but I'd have to waste ten more turns moping up the battlefield. After losing his tanks within 4 turns (a skill I have noticed that he has mastered quite capably) he met my friend, Mr VT. Somehow the boy was never quite the same thereafter. But to give the little bugger credit, he is like eczema that just won't go away, dog**** that works its way into the soles of your shoes, like a stupid little mongrel that keeps chewing up your clothes and peeing on them. He doesn't give up. It's really like when you land a sand shark, gaffe it, smash it over the head and it still keeps thrashing, long dead but with out the brains to realize it. So Lorak another win if you please and a loss for Croda. ------------------ If frogs had uzi's, snakes woudn't mess with them so much. - Hiram [This message has been edited by jdmorse (edited 12-16-2000).]
 5. Strumpeter..... Oh pu-leze..go away, study and learn the ways of the pool and come back when you have something .... 6. Actually 91-9! Ahh yes Magnaminity in victory. Hard fought battle in the blackest night. My estemed opponent was forced to face a PzGrenadier Co. w/ hvy weapons platoon, adjunct rifle platoon, 81mm and 105mm FO's 2x 81mm mortars, 1 Panther, 1 stugIV and a 250/1. Against me a bunch of Stuarts, and infantry with no 'zooks I am told. If I didn't in I'd have some explaining to do. We both approached cautiously, till a very vicious firefight broke out and continued to the end. Moriarty tried to circle around behind me and almost pulled it off. My hats off to him as I grind him beneath my feet. So Lorak keeper of the scared runes, inscribe in your tome of ages this victory. [This message has been edited by jdmorse (edited 12-16-2000).]

 8. Davorin: Some guys here have seen war, in ways you never have. "a little artillery fire" "some airstrikes" Ever give any consideration to the people, ie human beings like you , your parents or siblings, when they land? Ever seen a body split open by shrapnel. Smelled rotting and burned flesh. Ever figure what happens to a tank crew when the tank is euphemistcally "brewed up" They are burned to a crisp. War is NOT cool EVER! It is death, and misery and pain and destruction. You know who really long the most for peace and no war? Soldiers who have to do the fighting. For centuries, gov'ts have sold young men a bill of goods about martial airs, fancy uniforms, god being on "our side". Why? Why is there basic training. Because most people will not kill another person or be capable of it in a deliberate way. We have to train then to be killers.....it starts with basic training. I am not arguing against war or the military but let's not be deluded in what it is and isn't. You have alot of growing to do, I pray that you have the time to do it, that you NEVER have to experience what soldiers have to experience in war....but do not gloryfy it, or the sacrifices any soldier makes by calling it "cool"
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Bakker@home: well mister this is excactly the kind of behaviour which causes you lot to be the social outcasts you have become....You rather sniffle and paw each other in unproper ways here in this daft pool.

Yep, I'd say you have the right of it. ------------------ If frogs had uzi's, snakes woudn't mess with them so much. - Hiram
 10. Universal Wolf: Just a quick point or two that may help. Remember that CM is akin to the "Squad Leader" concept from the old Avalon Hill days. The emphasis is on the squad as an organic whole, not the individual soldier. Secondly, I refer you to the BTS Manifesto (if you haven't read it you should) http://www.battlefront.com/about/index.html to see where these guys are coming from. The are making a wargame for wargamers, not a mass market. There is one standard touchstone that all is derived from. What model produces the most realistic, in terms of real world dynamics. That is, whats the actual physics of a shell flying through the air and impacting on a particular surface at a particular angle. Most games, both board and computer highly abstract this. With CM is is probably as close to "real" as you can get. That being said, the reality of computing power such as it is cannot really support everything being highly realistic. Some trade-offs are made (trees are sprites for example) and the three man squad image also. But remember, behind that icon the dynamics of the men are modeled, from weapons mix to numbers, to morale etc. The result as so many people and reviewers have come to conclude is simply the best and most realistic combat simulation out there. Some people lament certain aspects, but if you examine the objection it usually turns out that not that it is "best" but rather it is different from what they are used to. CM is differnt from, say CC. For someone used to CC CM can be hard to embrace, because it IS so different, change to something new often is a bit off putting. Esp if a person has a heavy background in FPS games. I suggest you go to the BTS site and read the opinions of reviewers, read the comment of the somewhat bonzo people that inhabit this world, they are passionate! But there is a reason for that passion. For so many of this, this game is what we have been waiting for since Panzerblitz/Squad Leader (the board games!) days. The bottom line, CM is not glitz, it is like combat, real, at times gritty and absorbing. I appreciate your willingness to share and by implication learn about what others feel. Feel free to ask others opinions. Do not like some other recent threads spout off " Well I have the demo and this needs to be changed" That only gets flamed. There are over 150,000 posts that touch on the "why" of about everything. From tracers, to dead bodies to running machine gun crews! Welcome and I strongly urge you to buy the game because there is even more to it than the demo shows. Just ask around. JD BTW there are 2 Macintosh Mod Managers available to handle the mods and sounds without having to go thru Resedit. They are at CMHQ under the third party mod section http://combathq.thegamers.net/ . If you haven't poked around there and the Annex do so as it gives you a good idea of the CM world [This message has been edited by jdmorse (edited 12-15-2000).]

 17. I rouse myself from my existential angst (which redoubles after reading munches stream of consciousness) to parade before you the good, the bad and the ugly, mostly bad and ugly.... Unfortunately, many of my worthy opponents have either been gone on holiday (some still are) or we have been at the beginning of various setups. The usual suspects follow: Anubus has returned, like the dry desiccated Imohotep he yet lives. So I welcomed him back with a long distance shooting match resulting in the brewing up of one of his "ronsons", I look forward to sampling more as he has thrown together a motley bunch of mixed national tanks in our armor fest. Marlin brags about how he is handling our game. He is engaged with a platoon, and hides his armor behind in the woods. Since we are in a foggy wonderland, sighting is abit of a problem. But Kurtz's pet needs to remember, his advantage is only on 1/4 the front. Croda has treated me with all the respect on a rabid testosterone filled hump happy mongrel dog that cannot control his bladder. Our Opedial contest lingers on as he hopes for some recount to allow him to have a go at his mom. Well sorry sirrah, I am afraid those chads just won't hunt. So it is a slow, shoot die, and shoot some more as his frenzied banzai charges just mean that I have more bodies to bury. uselessGit and I are inthe early stages. Our armor seem to like to engage in mutual annilation. One bright spot is the sterling performance by my, err... I mean his airforce. With three passes completed, there has been 2 look around and wave at the ants on the ground passes and a nice bracketing of one of his Shermans truddling along in the rear areas. My troops were greatly cheered by the flyboys appearance and a great huzzah issued from their lips. Tommyboy learned that hiding in a prominent building that happens to be sitting on a Targeting mark is hazardous. Can we say boom? Unfortunetly, we are playing under v1.1 and they were in process of skeddaling, so casualities are uncertain. Under 1.05 probably 1/2 the platoon would have been toast. Deadrty as he says is excelling in figuring how to lose. True the AI pimped him, bunch a munch of Stuarts against my Panther and Stug. ummmmm can you say s'mores, cooked in the fire of his burning tanks? However, the most gratifying was the result of his attempt to put a three way squeeze on the Panther. One died as it drove down the road, probably as a sacrificial lamb (which I did), but another on a wide flanking manuver snuggled in between two buildings to get a flank rear shot. Unfortunately, I had moved my PzV out of his LOS. Remember the scene in the hokum Stars Wars with the Ewoks? A landstrider is squished by two logs smashing from either side. So here. Remember those two buildings? They each had a hidden squad with panzerfausts. Whoosh, they each fire. Boom! Chupcakes has at last returned, but it has been so long it took me several minutes to even figure out where the hell we are. Oh yeah, he is dying alotâ„¢ but like Cruddite , is prolonging the agony for his own sick amusements, much as Caligua did. Aussiefaced continues to muck up my KT treds. We are playing a rune evil version of the Battle of the Bulge tank battle. Kt's v Chaffe's. I am waiting for him to find the barrels of gasoline and start rolling them down the hill. Francoisboy is taking his leisure on the Champes E'lysse and slow about returning the most recent turn. Ah gallic efficiency. TheMinnesotaBard besides composing very beautiful and touching poetry, is slowly applying his probe with ever increasing pressure. Ouch! Finally Andreas, may I call you Andreas, and I have entered into negotiations as to whether the current game is worth playing. 18. ..... a bitter wind sweeps the moor, a grey-black miasmic fog, it's choking tendrils force the lungs to work harder. A lone figure, cloaked in dark pinstripes stands aside the road, his eyes and face marked by the witnessing of too much sorrow and human foibles. A solitary figure, clad in elven grey slowly emerges from the mists and stops. Ahead is the path that leads down to the Cesspool, that den of inquity and villany, lacking moral turpitude and any semblance of redeeming quality, yet it has it's own honor, even now. The pool pulses sickenly, beckoning on the two travelers. The pinstripped figure extends his hand, they clasp fore-arms. "Welcome back, Lorak, Welcome back," he mutters. 19.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: He is currently at Merzenhausen Zoo crying his heart out over the smouldering carcass of his favourite jungle animal - poor lad.

I am crying out my heart, bowels and guts over the most mismatched, excrable scenario I have ever had foisted on me. You can be assured ButtcheeksBoy that my ennui about the slow destruction of my forces knows no bounds. They bore me (as do you) Rest easy in the knowledge that a one handed orang could win this game against the pitiful forces given me, but since the AI must have sliced and diced you when you played it, I can see that like a blind, one legged mutiple amputee , you need all the assistance you cna secure. So I shall play out this farce to it's bitter conclusion, but I shall not forgwet or forgive. The stain of your perfidity can only be expunged by meeting me a rematch QB. Croda so nice to be remembered. Be better that you remember to send a turn you worthless git or stop prattling about your next HUGE battle and inquire if I sent you a file (I did, so long ago I can't see it for the cobwebs) Course I am growing old just waiting for the termination of our current game with the inevitable win, but then your Bushian strategy is to delay the counting of your scattered chad-bodies. As for others, I have been cursed with games againist disappearing foes......Meeks, Anubis, Chupdogboy, Pawshisfrenchbodyparts, and several too inconsequential to mention. Christ I have almost been reduced to playing the AI. CelticBardboy occasionally sends something. I have been forced to content myself with Heartofdarkness, GiPommie, and the aforementioned Orang-boy and Cruddite and for you all, I owe no one a turn, you owe me either notice you didn't get it or the turn itself. So I remain particularly uninspired with the lot of you. At least HereIamkillme provided some spark and flair with his fawning syncophancy and his cringing self-esteem, as I slit his entrails open and fed them to my dogs. I seek, nay dream of an challenge that actually makes me want to crush you beneath hobnail boots. These low life minions are no match. So I carry on, disenchanted, dissaffected until, until a more fullfilling opponnet appears. JD, esq ------------------ If frogs had uzi's, snakes woudn't mess with them so much. - Hiram
 20. Roman: In case you didn't quite get the undercurrents here.....these issues and the CC comparisons have been done to death, revived as some frankenstenian monster, burned and spiked and revivied yet again in the best traditio of Imohotep (The Mummy Karloff et al) Alot of verbiage has been shed, and much angst. The reasons have been alluded to, David has provided a thread link (bless him) if you are REALYY interested and somewhat masochistic, "searching" the forum will give you more than you need to know. Short answer, BTS does not nor will they (at least at current tech levels) individually model men...rather the squad is the basic unit (yes this has been discussed alot as well) It's a slippery slope man, but in the not to distance past we were all a bit raw that a question like this would get a "Do a search" torch off the bat. Things are a bit easier now....just know there are some topics that HAVE been talked to death, yet they still appear [running MG's as Sean mentioned above] So welcome to the CM universe, abandon hope, kiss your wife and dog goodbye because this is about all you'll see till your computer breaks down and you wonder where everyone went. JD ------------------ If frogs had uzi's, snakes woudn't mess with them so much. - Hiram
 21. They can be useful, but care is required. In a large scenario I had a Sexton prove to be invaluable. Hidden behind a building it rained havoc in long range flank shots on both inf and armor. Basicly let them cross the gunsights then boom. So favorable location is a must. Going hunting tho is asure way to get yer ticket punched. In support of entrenched MLR (again w/ protected LOS) works well. They are not tanks or TD's so using them as such are no no's. But they can surprise an enemy AFV that's been flushed out or meanders into your sights
