[This message has been edited by -panzershreck- (edited 04-16-2000).]

I've seen numerous posts on this site that did just that, but they were hidden in other topics. Damm, i wish i could remember where they were, oh well... Considering that most of us are just killing time waiting for the Gold Demo, might i recommend you think of every abbreviation you've seen, and then start your own thread asking what they mean. I'm sure you'll find many that will lend a hand (and a few comedians too) If new terms appear you can edit/update keeping the list fresh. This way we then can steer the newbies who need help, and you come out looking like a hero P.S. make sure to give your thread a catchy name so we all can remember how to find it
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by -panzershreck-: what does IHMO mean and some of the other words u use that have no meaniung to me ?

IMHO-In my humble opinion What other abbreviations do you need help with?
 3. Guys, i need your opinion... Yesterday i played LD from start to finish uninterrupted. It was the most vicious battle i've ever seen. There was no limit to the death and destruction. Vehicles exploded. Entire squads were cut to pieces by MG fire. Arms, legs, and heads were being hacked off and sent flying by mortar rounds. And worst of all, the screams of the wounded trapped inside a burning building were unbearable. And during all this the song "Its a small world after all" kept recycling over and over inside my head. Am i going mad?
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Dmeek: The recent post regarding SPR used the statistic that claimed only 15% of American infantrymen fired their guns in anger. [This message has been edited by Dmeek (edited 04-15-2000).]

The other 85% fired their guns in complete fright
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Ol' Blood & Guts: Of course, trying not to be too mouthy. Just reporting the facts as once heard from a true source.

OB&G, I too am not trying to be mouthy, but i don't think the opinions of an old, lazy, ex-neighbor who happended to be Canadian constitutes fact. P.S. I live in S. Florida, a long ways away from the "Great white north"
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by EScurlock: Can anyone figure out what FIGMO means?

FIGMO-**** it, got my orders. A popular phrase among the troops in Vietnam. Now, a question for you, what did it mean when they said it?
 7. My preference is more sound effects than music. It's the eerie background sounds in "Full Metal Jacket" when the Marines go hunting for the sniper. The only way i can describe it is a mix of a bass drum, squeaky metal door, and a plate.
 8. I was playing LD this morning as the Germans when i noticed something that didn't seem right to me. Allow me to explain... During the set-up phase i concentrated the foot infantry and armor in the vicinity of the paved road. When the action phase began they moved as a group down the hill. I then noticed several sound contacts in the town and around the left hand objective house. This seemed odd to me and raised several questions in my mind... 1) How does a group of infantry moving along side of a Tiger and 2 Stugs hear something at least 500 meters away? I would assume the Tiger alone would be enough to drown out most sounds. 2) How much sound does a group of infantry hiding inside a house or in a foxhole make? I would think they'd want to be as invisible as possible, especially if they see a Tiger rolling down the road and all they have are rifles. 3) At what point does the AI consider a unit is heard? I understand the proximity of enemy units plays a part, as does the volume of sound from the friendly unit. But does it consider for instance, surrounding sounds, terrain, or weather conditions? I understand this might be bug-related or a result of old Beta codes but i thought i'd ask anyways P.S. I used the search function, but with no results.
 9. Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't the Grant/Lee tanks have a 75mm mounted in the hull and a 20mm in the turret? Ooops...L.Tankersley beat me to the punch [This message has been edited by Black Sabot (edited 04-14-2000).]
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by Ol' Blood & Guts: Hell, I still can't figure out what AFAIK (sp?) means?

AFAIK = as far as i know
 11. I agree with dano6, use the TD's advantage in speed. If you get all 3 off the hill and into town intact then your chances of tagging his ass are greatly increased.
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Ol' Blood & Guts: No offense Black Sabot, but HUH?? What are you trying to say there? [This message has been edited by Ol' Blood & Guts (edited 04-13-2000).]

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse Let me try again... What i was trying to say was not all assault guns had large guns. Some had flamethrowers, or mortars, or rapid fire cannons of smaller calibur.
 13. And to further muddy the water... Not all Assault guns/Tanks mounted guns (flamethrowers) or had large guns (German Flakpanzers) (granted, not intended for ground operations, but effective nevertheless) [This message has been edited by Black Sabot (edited 04-13-2000).]
 14. True, but if you consider the average size of a CM scenario and also the speed of military planes of that era, you end up with about 2 seconds of movie time.
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by fiftymicrolitres: At 1 milligram/ ml, 50 ul is what is required for a standard efficacious dose of LSD25 according to Remington's Pharmaceutical Science, assuming 100% purity. 5m

BTW, it's your username which has a direct relation to my work (although not the LSD part) [This message has been edited by Black Sabot (edited 04-13-2000).]
 16. Capt, I would ask that you listen to the last lyric on the Eagle's "Hotel California"
 17. Imagine if Col. Frost had a dozen of these at Arhnem bridge.
 18. Talk about O/T, but anyways here goes... The reason i started this thread was based in part on another thread i read a while back. In it i saw that someone chose a username that had a direct relation to what i do at work. That got me thinking "how did he come up with that name"? Well, naturally that led to me wondering how anyone here chose their name, so i decided to ask How did you chose your user name? Some of these are easy to figure out, others i'm not so sure. So if you have the time drop me a line and post it here Let me start off with my name (Black Sabot) it is a mix between one of my favorite rock bands of the 70's and 80's, Black Sabbath and the AT round shot out of Tank cannons, a Sabot. Back when i thought it up i thought it sounded cool, now i'm thinking it sounds a bit corny but i'll stick with it So anyways, i'll pass this thread on to you all and see what becomes of it. your time starts....now.
 19. C'mon guys, lay off the French. After all they gave us the Kiss, the Tickler, and best of all...Brigette Bardot! And we all know what we got from watching her on the screen
 20. You know, markk had me worried for a second. He posted his "Thanks" right after mine and i wondered if he was thanking Dschugaschwili for the link or if he was taking me seriously
 21. Don't bother, send the check to me and i'll burn you a copy. OOOPS!...Just kidding!
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Ol' Blood & Guts: OK, I don't know if this has been covered before, but what kind of terrain is necessary to embark and disembark infantry from the assault boats?

Dry land (sorry, i couldn't resist ) Actually OB&G, In addition to the Dam assault, your question is relevant to another CM scenario (82nd airborne river crossing at Nijmegan)
 23.
quote:
Originally posted by chaos: For those of you who have not pre-ordered, WHY NOT !! Just curious. chaos

I like to test drive it before i drive it off the lot
 24. I remember someone asking this a while back and Steve replied, so you can't get a more definitive answer than that. Try searching under "artillery realism" or along those lines
