  1. You got yourself a Texas Gal Fionn?? I guess you decided to not mess around with the lesser gals and go straight to the best of the bunch. (Born and raised a Texan! Yaa-Hoo!) MikeyD
  2. In reply to Stabs request for a "maximum" release date. In theory, BTS is operating as is there is no such thing. If they were, they probably would have shipped it late November for the Xmas holidays. BTS whole idea is not to do what the other companies do, which is... A. Release a crappy, watered down, generic, copy cat game of the latest fad. B. Have a deadline for a release, which causes them to have to release a game which may have major, known bugs. C. Ignore thier customer base, who knows better what they want in a game than some marketing geek in some cubicle somewhere. So with this being the case, I sincerly doubt BTS will respond to your request for such a date because there is no such animal. Mikey
  3. Helping keep the average down to a respecatble level... 28
  4. Well, my input as what to call us... Since Beta's refers to Beta testers, then us non beta's should be called Finals... Who's with me??? Mikey
  5. I try to play paintball as often as possible. Unfortunatly, work has been interfering in that endeavor, but I love the thrill I get playing.
  6. BTS <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>I think I had both side's reinforcements set to be random with a high chance of coming in on the specified turn. What I mean is that you can specify the SOONEST turn the guys can come in, then a percenatage chance. The system will keep trying to get the guys on the map each turn after they don't show up until they do or the game ends.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/000643.html
  7. About the "Gold" version. This term describes what phase of developement. First is the Alpha versions, then comes Beta (What CM currently is in now) and then Gold (also called Final). When a game goes "Gold" that means the developement code is basically frozen. They send the program code to the duplicators, who put the games onto the CD's. Of course once BTS sends the game out for shipping, they can go back to work fixing and bugs that might have slipped through, tweak some features, ect. You seem to be confusing this with "Gold Editions" of games that you often see. Thouse are, like you mentioned. They generally are the latest patched version of the game, combine new features, new maps or scenarios, ect. They don't usually appear until months or more after a game is released. That help? Mikey
  8. Also, what the file is is a self-extracting zip file. That's why it has an .exe extension. You can extract it using Winzip. you just have to change the filter on the file selection window to all files (*.*) instead of zip files (.zip) so you can see the file on the list and then open it) If for some reason, it won't open, my guess is the file is corrupted Mikey
  9. Is the error message appearing in a dos box? (has a C:\ command line prompt?) Sounds like for some reason, the file is set up to start a dos session when that file is clicked and then run it, but since the actual file only works in true windows, it gives you that error. A workaround though is to manually load up winzip and then open the archive and extract it using that. Mikey
  10. Well as far as the volume of responses generated by a search, I checked using this topic to see how long it would take to get an idea of what the anwer to my question would be on CM2 being East Front or Africa. Keywords used.... CM2, Eastern, Front, Africa. Time for search results screen to appear.... Approx 15 seconds. Results.... I got 4 "hits" to my inquiry. #1.... "Two more Cms?" by Private Ryan http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/000656.html Short thread, asking how many CM's were planned, and which one was next. This was answered by Fionn that EF was next in line, 3 other theaters possible. #2.... "No Russians???" by Reverendo http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/001413.html Question asking about the fact no Russians in CM and mentions an expansion pack. Meduim sized thread with a lot of "fluff", but BTS had the 3rd response, stating Eastern Front is set for CM2. Also further down the line, Dave posts this... "No CM in the Pacific theater. CM2 is Eastern Front. CM3 is North Africa/Med. CM4 is early Western Europe." #3.... "east front CM?" by Stabsfeldwebel http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/002075.html Another relatively short thread, asking (I guess) about the feasabilty of a East Front CM considering the scope. In BTS response (1st reply in thread), they basically outline that CM2 will cover the Eastern Front from '41-'45. Thia search took me no more than 5 minutes, and I would have answered the question of what CM2 was going to be. This is what all the hoopla is all about concerning these questions. Instead of taking 5 minutes of his time to answer his own question, he just repeated a previously answered question. What happens now is.. A. Alot of people take a couple of seconds to read the thread and ignore it since it's already been answered. (Wasted time) B. Some people read the thread and take a minute or two to repeat the answer. (More wasted time) 90% of his questions could be answered by him taking a few minutes to dig just a little. While I'm impressed by his enthusiasim, I fear that he's going to come to a point where he's going to turn a lot of people off. Then people will outright just ignore his posts. Not a good thing. So, Capt. Please, please, please make an effort to do some homework, so to speak, before asking some of this stuff. Mikey
  11. Me after beta demo was released. Me after getting butt kicked in 1st pbem game Me after beating Moon at a PBEM game Me after reading some of the messages posted on this Forum Me after I post this message Me... nuff said... Mikey [This message has been edited by Mikeydz (edited 01-04-2000).]
  12. As for the AAR thing Fionn mentioned, I think that you guys should redo the Alpha AAR game map in the gold version and replay it for the tutorial... (ok, ok... I'm just trying to help Fionn by giving him a second shot at redemption in that misson against Moon. (Look out! Jabo's at 10 o'clock high!!!)) Mikey
  13. As far as I've seen, the gold Demo should be in our hand about 2 weeks before the game ships. So warm up your countdown page, cause as soon as the demo post, you need to jump on it..
  14. I doubt that it would be too late. Until final gets close to release, and while the framework is being setup, I'm sure there is still "openings" to be filled. As was noted, if anyone has an interest, check out the link, and then contact Fionn.
  15. http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/000281.html Just wanted to make sure, but you did try to search before posting, correct? Took me 30 seconds to come up with this post.
  16. Stephen Smith said... <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> Within the last year, Edmund Morris (sp?) published a biography of Ronald Reagan. It was terrible. It wasn't terrible because it was poorly written. It wasn't terrible because it was funny or not funny. It wasn't terrible because it was particulary accurate or inaccurate. It was terrible because it had evolved into a biography not of Ronald Reagan, but of Edmund Morris!! It was off topic and thus irrelevant to most readers. How does this relate to CM? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Then in respons to the comment about the books style... <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Hmmm. I'm not convinced of this. I haven't read the book-I've only read several reviews/editorials about the book. My impression is that EVERYBODY knew that Edmund Morris' insertion of himself into the biography was fictional-and they disliked the book anyway. In other words, the source of their dislike was not the deception (the fact that edmund was in the book and didn't tell anybody that it was fictional)-rather, it was simply the awkward way in which he inserted himself-that the fictions represented by having his own fictional character 'bump into' Reagan throughout the biography called into question other statements of the book (which were probably factual). In other words, by introducing a fictional character, it opens the doors to introducing fictional events, fictional quotes, fictional attitudes, etc, and the reader has no way of knowing which was which. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Ok... if I follow this right, you start this thread to complain about the OT stuff, then your next reply is commentary about a book "about" Ronald Reagan. How is your own reply on topic? I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything, but people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. I don't really care to read a bunch of OT stuff, but it doesn't bother me. Most of the time, the message titles give me a good enough idea wheter or not it's an on topic post, and I read accordingly. It's not a skill that's hard to master.
  17. 1st. A quick start/tutorial is vital. While the interface is pretty intuitive, it does have a small learning curve. Also imagine some reviewer trying to play the game. If there is something he can't figure out, it might color his review negatively. 2nd. It the mapmaker a seperate program, or is it in the main program? If it is in the same program, then probably important that it be in the manual. If it is a seperate program, then you might be able to save space for other stuff by making a help file document to be included on the CD. Just make sure a link to the file is created in the program group for easier (and more obvious) access. 3rd. A brief overview of the time period would be nice, just don't forget to include the references. 4th. Campaign descriptions certainly. Scenario if there is room. 5th. Tactics/hints? Eh... not priorty.
  18. Lifestyle section??? That's one way to look at my obsession...
  19. Hey Fionn, you think you could fit in another PBEM game? I figure that since the game will be at least late January before it's in my hands (This is MY guess GUYS!,Don't flail me, please... ) that this would be as good a time as any to beat the other half of the famed Alpha AAR team. (Sorry Moon... )
  20. Lindan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I liked EMPIRE very much. We played it for days, 3 player-hotseat. Build tanks, fighters and different types of ships( you could name them) and try to conquer cities on a random map. Awful graphics but GREAT fun. It was back in computer stoneage, around 1990 I think... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1990 computer stoneage??? I guess I've been in Computer gaming when the primordial crust formed then...
  21. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> MOS, hmmm, you gave me an idea - I bet comanies could make some money CHARGING people to be beta-testers. [Ok, ok, I didn't say it was a _good_ idea.] <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Where have you been??? Most game companies already do... Just go to your local CompUSA, Electronic Boutique, or Software Ect. You'll find all the latest and greatest beta test releases. Mikey [This message has been edited by Mikeydz (edited 11-24-99).]
  22. ICQ is a Internet communications utility. You run the program and create an account with ICQ (it's free). Then you give your ICQ account number to your friends, and they give you thiers. Once you put their numbers into your IQC, you'll basically know whenever your friends are online. So how does this relate to PBEM? Well, ICQ allows you to send files back and forth to each other, so you would just send the email files back and forth. It work about the same as emailing your turn, but it's nicer to use since it's pretty much an instant transfer, you can send instant taunts to your opponent, ect. Go to www.icq.com to download the latest version.
  23. Well, assuming that they were trying to show both English and Metric, then I think it should be 14.3 PSI (98.621 kPa) and 15.5 PSI (106.9 kPa). If I recall, Kg/ccm is a density measurement, so I'm not sure how that info is important. I'm pretty sure that Moon is right about it being possible that 15.5 PSI can equal 1.9kg/ccm, but since the last time I had to figure stuff like that out was in high school, I wouldn't have a clue off hand as to if that figure is accurate.
  24. I was wondering but are all penetrations supposed to kill, or can a penetration just partially disable a vehicle? Last Defense, with me as US. German Tiger is parked just before the first wall line, shelling one of my maching guns. M18 on top of hill clears a smokescreen and fires off (I think HE for some reason) a round at the Tiger and gets an Front Upper Hull Penetration. I of course cheer, but 10 seconds later the Tiger fires of another round at the MG position. Should the Tiger have died there, or is the sucker damaged. I would have figured that the Tiger, if it was able to, would have turned it's turret at the m18, backed off, or something, but no luck. Could it be that it's turret was damaged and can't turn, or maybe the driver was killed, so that's why it's not moving. Just thinking that those tanker guys must have brass balls to stay in the think when thier armor was penetrated. Mikey
  25. But weren't you also in favor of Hagens assertion that we should get a status screen because it takes to much time to go thru and get all the information? Ahh I see ya working... You support the time limit, then that gives ya more ammo to demand a summary screen, because of lack of time to gather the needed info...
