  1. I think what Steve is saying here is that they won't put something on the map that has no role there, i.e. is not thoroughly modelled. Which I think we can all agree was the case for the BN HQ in CM1. So you'll still be able to play with 1/2/many battalions (if your rig can hack it), but unlike in CM1 there won't even be a pretense (because that is what it was) that the command chain is modelled. That raises the question of OOBs however.
  2. "The Batley Townswomens Guild re-enacts 101 Airborne dropping into Nazi-Nizza" is my guess.
  3. Just a point on this idea that because CM1 does not realistically model company commands, there is no difference between its modelling of company and battalion commands. I don't agree with that logic - I think that on battalion level inconsistencies are strongly reinforced compared to company command. But good news from Steve.
  4. 'Once' - you mean in your battle? I meant in reality, just to clarify. Your assumption does not strike me as anything but an assumption until I know more about the new engine. You do not know the suppression model (affects whether you can commit your reserve without running into trouble), or the command delays (affect whether you can quickly switch your attacking units over if you have no reserve), or the spotting system (affects how fire control over the battlefield can be exerted). Unless these and presumably a lot of other things are known I would say that your point is logical in CM1, but that's about it. Which means it is at this stage not particularly relevant, as trains of thoughts go.
  5. They were evaluating the L55 in 99 or so, and thought it was a great solution, even gave it a name m256e1, but I just checked Mr. google and it appears nothing has happened since. Sgt. Goody, I am from Northern Germany, but lived in London, and now I live in Paris, since 11 months.
  6. I think we can all agree that CM1 also focused on sub-battalion engagements. So yes, I think you misunderstood him. Focus on to me does not mean restrict to. I think this is turning into Kreminology fast Let's try to interpret Steve's words on the basis of our Angst. Do they hint at a struggle behind the walls of Charles jar? Is Matt gaining power slowly? Which faction will Kwazy eventually sign up with? Who is really running the show? Does Martin's background as a salesman make him more or less likely to ruthlessly seize power when we least expect it? Do Steve's comments mean that a new age is dawning in the shack where he dwells? I am not concerned about it at this stage, but maybe I am just too relaxed. All the best Andreas
  7. Well they aren't really, especially if by 'latest' Abrams he means one with the L55 Rheinmetall gun. Also, in terms of target acquisition the latest Abrams ought to be superior - the A4 is an early 80s tank. But it has a very decent gun, decent enough armour, and probably decent enough target acquisition. I don't think it would be a complete push-over (especially not if you go on to compare the latest Abrams to the T55), but there are others on this forum who would know that better. I just don't think that our friend with the impenetrable posting style falls under the 'others' group.
  8. I agree, and my guess is so does BFC. As I pointed out a number of posts ago, CM1 was not a battalion level game, but they did not prohibit playing battalion or above games. Do you think they will now? If so, why?
  9. Yeah, and I think he doesn't know what he is talking about.
  10. Are all KG members twits or are they just so massively stupid that they can't take a hint? What does mom think?
  11. How is the Leo 2A4 'massively' outdone by the Challenger 2 and the latest Abrams in a firefight. In teh context of MBTs? Start making sense.
  12. Same here when I commanded 43rd Wessex during CMMC1. I could not normally care less about companies.
  13. You two are lucky that Steve doesn't have access to a disintegrator pistol right about now... </font>
  14. How often were battalion reserves committed in a 45 minute battle? I think that is where I should say that it appears you are making an awful lot of assumptions about something we know very little about. And here you are jumping to conclusions based on your assumptions. Which may or may not be right.
  15. Actually, it appears some of this is incorrect too. Ark Royal had an armoured flight deck and a full-length hangar, at least according to the website below. Of course like all things on the Interweb it maybe full of rubbish. Ark Royal
  16. Outdone, maybe. But for the 2A4 I doubt the 'massively' somewhat...
  17. I think his point is that the game does not force you to do that, you force yourself to do that. Example - I am currently playing some contraption by that mad toothpick wielder otherwise cursed at as Sergei. I attack with a reinforced Soviet infantry battalion and half a tank brigade. I have just thrown the whole lot onto a single objective, completely overwhelming the German defense. Now my opponent (hi Jon) is trying to counter-attack and hit me in the flank. IRL that would be very bad for my weak forces there. But with borg spotting and instant command, the lack of a reserve does not matter. I just motor some KVs over to his attack and drop the whole lot of fascist invaders by judicious (who am I kidding, reckless) use of cannister. Its not a campaign, but a long battle on a big map. IRL I would have had to keep some reserves somewhere. But in CMx1, nope, I can just throw the whole gang into the breach.
  18. Andreas, after looking back at your performance in the earlier beta tests I have run, you would know this how exactly? </font>
  19. I design scenarios primarily and they are part of the sold package. Beyond that I will not comment on how beta-testing works, since I signed an NDA which I have no intention of breaking.
  20. Steve said! CMx2 is going to be a Greek-Persian Phalanx simulation!
  21. Thanks a lot Redwolf. I am used to Mac prices, so it did not seem that excessive to me.
