  1. You're right John, it was. My only (feeble) defense being it was before my first coffee of the day. My apologies. If you make it to London, I owe you a beer.
  2. It is owned by the National Trust, and the 'George Ale is brewed in Sussex, especially for the pub. It is an exclusive to it. They also do London Pride, and one or two guest ales (real ales). Hopefully Julia will be serving again.
  3. Stoffel, thanks. I thought I had a Dutch native speaker look over them, but then I must have forgotten to correct it. If I can find the CMBO CD, I correct it tomorrow.
  4. We had lots last December, which one do you mean?
  5. Emma, they don't serve that Mancunian pigswill there. It'll have to be London Pride, or the aptly named 'George Ale'
  6. Thanks - now where is the review on the Depot? Honestly, glad you enjoyed it - I thought it would be a good one, and JonS, who playtested it, seemed to like it too.
  7. Why would I berate you? You are Australian, and that is punishment enough. Endless BBQs, leggy blondes (like the one sitting opposite me at work) that are gorgeous, as long as they don't holler 'Hey, howyagoin' down a phoneline, sharks feeding evolution. Oh, and Mace... Hmmm, come to think of it, England does not sound like that bad a place, in particular since all your leggy blondes are belong to us already. You have not voted in your own poll, Lizardmeister.
  8. @ The George near London Bridge, 1830. Email me for directions. Andreas

  10. They're the worst. Coming over here, breathing our air, clogging up our internet. Wearing Hawaii shirts and shorts, and selling us their TV programmes. Scum. The only thing that is worse are Germans living in London.
  11. I once believed this as well, but what I have read recently lets me think that Soviet tank recovery was of a very high standard. I am still hoping to get the memoirs of a tank recovery unit leader in the Red Army. No luck so far though
  12. Blast from the past: Louie, I believe that on a CM map they are unlikely to be dismounted (unless you are looking at huge maps) anyway, since they would put themselves to much at the risk of an ambush while transferring from one position to another. The high speed of cavalry is an operational advantage, not necessarily a tactical one. Tactically, you could be inviting desaster moving on horseback. One unspotted gun or HMG in your path, and your unit is up the proverbial without a paddle. See picture below for operational movement: The picture below shows a tactical situation. The comment to this picture explicitly states: 'Dismounted assaults are made from all directions'. Can someone tell me where Golubovka is/was? Both pictures from 'The Red Army Handbook'. According to Zaloga, a Soviet cavalry regiment had ~1,150 men (in 4 mounted Squadrons , 1 MG Squadron, 1 Mortar Squadron and 1 Regimental Battery). They were therefore about the size of a (maybe) slightly reinforced US or Commonwealth late-war infantry battalion . The cavalry regimental battery had 123 men, and that would be additional to infantry BN TO&E. A US Armored Inf BN had 1,001 men, and a regular Inf BN had 836 men according to John Salt's 'USORG' document. The Commonwealth Motor BN (armoured inf) had 800 men in 1943, and the infantry battalion had 845 men. So the battle you see on this map is an upper-end CMBB battle.
  13. Correctly used (i.e. not in foolish charges), cavalry in the east had tremendous potential. The best Soviet commander was probably Pliev, commander of 1st Guards Cavalry Corps (about a division worth of men & equipment). Cavalry Mechanised Groups were hugely important in exploitation. The mobility afforded in the poorly developed countryside was a major asset. ISTR the last Soviet cavalry division only was taken off the roster in 1955.
  14. Remember to bring your pet passport. The rabid likes of you are being quarantined for six months otherwise. Please tell me you are not coming to work for our organisation, like all the other Koalashaggers?
  15. Yes, but they are dismounted. I.e. CMBB models Cavalry squads for all nations that fielded them, but not horses.
  16. Hmm, it appears the BTS has decided to punish the English tossers in this thread by publishing the game in the UK on October 4th (2 days before my niece's birthday, that must be significant somehow). Now, any suggestions for a release date to punish the Aussie twats even more? I vote for February 29th, that'll spank them. Now if only the game was more than an expansion pack, or the demo did not suck so much...
  17. Killed by 'bandits', as Zhukov calls them. I am not sure about combat use of Vlasov's army, I can not remember reading anything about it, except for the last few days near Prague, where they turned on the Germans during the street-fighting in the city. It was a largish force, but I would like to know a bit more about its actual use in combat.
  18. DeanCo, you won?! But, but, you are French... Inconceivable!
  19. Thanks Jim, I am glad someone got it Let me know if you are on for drinks Friday. We may have to organise the bigger get together for Thursday, but I'd be on to meet you for one after work.
  20. My pleasure, I hope you enjoy them. Just sorry it took me so long to put them out. I rarely have the energy these days to change the CDs from CMBB to CMBO in the drive...
  21. The following three reasons would have made me shell out money, even if all else had stayed the same between CMBB and CMBO. They are the reasons I will never go back to CMBO. 1. Completely revamped penetration model for rounds. No longer will a 2-pdr take out a Panther from the side with one shot 2. Completely revamped artillery model. Different size batteries, pre-barrages, different modelling of rocket barrages, time counter between volleys, radio/wire FOOs. 3. Changed MG modelling. HMGs are now the killers that they really were. And those are just the most obvious, not even beginning to talk about things like optics, the modelling of climate impact on weaponry/fitness, fitness modelling, new order menus, and whatnot. What are yours? [ September 10, 2002, 05:54 AM: Message edited by: Andreas ]
  22. John, rest assured that you can play CMBB as you like. Even should I become world dictator tomorrow, I will make a special exemption for you. There - do you feel better now? Now, I just quote myself, if I may: Now what do you think the opposite of this statement is? Right - 'If you like them, use them, and in a QB, just switch rarity OFF'. John, can you please show me where I made any uttering as to what people should or should not be allowed to do in their games? I don't think you can, and maybe you should just edit out your silly little post. But well done, you have shown to all that you know a lot about captured vehicles. Have a cookie.
