  1. I haven't checked in there recently, but based on past experience I would virtually guarantee that they could use GM volunteers at a minimum. Attrition/turnover with GMs is quite high.
  2. Hi, all! Wow, looks like I picked the right month to peek back in on the BFC forums if I wanted an ego stroke! FYI, while you can certainly grab the latest Mapping Mission from the CMMC2 site, I have started hosting it on my own personal webspace as well. The link is: http://home.comcast.net/~leland53/MappingMission111.zip and the zip includes the program and the user's guide in Word format. Note that there's no actual page there; this is a link to directly download the file. As far as distributing Mapping Mission with CMC ... in principle I've got no objection; if BFC or HTS or whomever wants to contact me about it, they can feel free. Give me a mention and maybe a complimentary copy of the game and I'd probably be happy. [Check out my l33t bargaining sk1llz!] If they don't want to do so, that's fine too -- up to them.
  3. jaynius here... nice to see my little creation still has some legs. I haven't actually done any work on it in quite some time, and haven't actually played more than 1-2 games of CM:AK so haven't had much incentive to adding CM:AK support to Mapping Mission. Apologies to those that have been patiently waiting for this, but there's just too much going on in my life recently to have much chance of getting back to MM development. If you want random maps, well, none. But if you are building a map by hand, whether duplicating another map or just starting from scratch, I think it offers some very nice upgrades over the built-in CM editor. Things like being able to drag a line out for a road or other linear feature and having the program automatically pick the right road tiles and intersections as the road moves through different kinds of wooded terrain. Copy and paste. Gesture-clicking to orient buildings. By the way, I have started hosting the latest version of Mapping Mission on my own personal webspace. It should be downloadable at the following link: http://home.comcast.net/~leland53/MappingMission111.zip The zip file includes the program and the user's manual in Word format. [Edit: Yeah, sorry about that. I spent some time looking into this, but it had been too long since my Mac programming days, and what with the OS9/OSX switch and everything else, coupled with my lack of time ... yeah. If there is someone out there with Mac development experience that might be interested in doing a port, they should feel free to contact me. Maybe we can work something out.]
  4. Well, I tried exporting it and there's definitely something wrong somewhere. The most glaring problem is the height of the exported map: 4920 meters vice 4000. I'll try to dig into that and see what's going on.
  5. I don't have CM at work so I can't try this out now, but I'll try to remember to look in and see if I can successfully export it tonight or this weekend.
  6. No, sorry. There have been too many other demands on my free time to devote the block of effort needed to get CMAK support in place.
  7. More than a year in the making*, Mapping Mission 1.11 is now available for download. You can grab it here: Mapping Mission v1.11 This version fixes a bug that could cause the program to crash or exhibit aberrant behavior. It also adds support for operations maps oriented north-to-south. * - well, it's been more than a year since the last update was released. Actual time spent on this version is hours, not days, weeks, or months.
  8. Hi, my ears were burning so I thought I'd drop in on the forum and see who was talking about me. Anyway, I'm not sure just what the problem you're describing is. I've been waiting for further feedback on the upcoming version 1.11 of Mapping Mission; it had sort of slipped my mind, but I will try to remember to post it for download this evening, as the limited feedback I've received makes it appear that it solves the issues it was supposed to address. It may solve your problem. If not, send me an email describing the problem (and if possible one of the saved map files you are unable to load) and I'll look into it. Regards,
  9. I was just alerted to the presence of this thread. I'm still waiting for some definitive data from testers before I officially release v1.11; when I do, I'll post here on the BF forums with a download link.
  10. This caught my eye ... Mapping Mission CMAK development has been at "all-stop" for quite a while (close to a year). However, I recently started sifting through the code to try to hunt down a bug some people with XP Home are having with the latest (1.10) version, so I may go back to the CMAK enhancements as well. No promises, don't hold your breath, but it might happen.
  11. You're welcome; it's good to see it being used. I'm not sure what can be done about the nVidia driver problem. I don't have an nVidia card anymore so I can't really research it.
  12. eichenbaum, that's precisely what I had in mind when I added the greyscale import feature. Another possibility, if you have access to DTED elevation data or some other digital elevation survey data, is to write a small program to automatically generate the bitmap greyscale values from the data. I'm not sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if elevation data was downloadable somewhere on the web, maybe at USGS. The elevation export of Mapping Mission was a thorny problem; I wrote the program mainly to support the CMMC campaign, and I knew at the outset I needed to support a wide range of elevations (much more than can be handled in a single CM map). In the end I decided to try to make MM "do the right thing" when the user tried to export a map with a larger elevation range than CM will support, preserving the general landforms at the expense of exact elevation relationships. YMMV.
  13. MM 1.10 can be downloaded from: http://www.cmmc2.org/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3228 This update contains a bug fix allowing export of large operations maps that are oriented north-south. Work on a CMAK version is still ongoing (in the sense I haven't decided not to do it) but proceeding slowly because of lack of free time.
  14. I saw the slowdown in map editing also, in my work on Mapping Mission. I no longer have an Nvidia card so I can't replicate any longer.
  15. Hi. The news is that since the birth of my son I haven't been able to muster the time or energy to finish up the CMAK support. It's about halfway there right now. I mean to finish it up but it's very much on an "as time allows" basis right now, and at the moment I'm mostly interested in time allowing me to sleep.
  16. Hmmm. I had thought it should work both ways; probably a minor bug. While work on CMAK support is stalled due to the increased size of my family, this might be something I can fix up quickly. I'll try to remember to take a look at it tonight.
  17. Hi; heard my name dropped and came in to pick it up again. I got about halfway through modifying MM to also support CMAK when I was distracted by the birth of my son. I still intend to finish this up, but my priorities have shifted and it's harder to find time and energy to devote to the project.
  18. MM won't build the map for you. What it will do is let you use a bitmap image (such as a screenshot of your maps) and display it as a semi-transparent overlay while you build your map in MM so you can match terrain tiles as closely as possible. You have to generate the bitmap yourself (and figure out what the ground scale is so you display it in an appropriately-sized area, if that matters to you).
  19. Hi all. Yes, I do intend to produce a CMAK option for Mapping Mission. However I just moved into a new house this week, we're expecting our first child in less than two months, I have a business trip next week and oh by the way I haven't even starting thinking about holiday shopping. Put it this way: I haven't had time to order CMAK for myself yet. Once I order it and get it in my hands, I don't think it will take too long to make it work with CMAK. But that opportunity may not come until after the holidays (hopefully soon after). Best regards and happy holidays to all!
  20. I agree it's not technically all that difficult; just a SMOP [small matter of programming]. But I think that scrolling would be necessary for most maps. That means taking multiple screenshots, importing them all, and stitching them together in MM. Certainly doable but far from a one-click type of operation. It might be necessary to have two shots per map area if there are tiles where elevation values can make it impossible to determine the type of a tile. There is some demand, but I don't know how much.
  21. Without support from BFC that's not likely. There is one viable third-party possibility for taking CMxx maps and sucking them into Mapping Mission; it involves taking screenshots of the map in the CM map editor, and then doing tile-wise comparisons to figure out the tile type and elevation. Unfortunately that would be pretty labor-intensive for the user (since most maps won't fit on one CM editor screen even at high screen resolutions). I'm not likely to tackle this project anytime soon (but I don't rule it out entirely). Since the MM file format is published (in the back of the User's Guide), anyone else out there that wants to take a crack at this is welcome to.
  22. Neither. Mapping Mission doesn't have anything to do with the CM map file format. It doesn't "save" maps in CM format; it "exports" them by simulating the actions of a user laboriously clicking on all the tiles of the CM map editor interface (but much, much faster). I did have BFC's approval/blessing to pursue the project, however.
  23. I commanded the British 50th Northumbrian Infantry Division. I also took over 2nd Armoured Regiment Grenadier Guards about halfway through the game. FYI, MM 1.09 is now available for download (see link at the top of the thread).
  24. Mapping Mission 1.09 is now available for download at: http://www.cmmc2.org/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1350&WHICHPAGE=1 Version 1.09 adds support for Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord, and also modifies the display and exporting of elevation when in "CM level" mode to better emulate the behavior of the CM map editor.
  25. It wasn't used in CMMC1, but the lack of something like it in CMMC1 led me to build it for use in CMMC2. The entire CMMC2 map (roughly 32x34km) is being represented in Mapping Mission, and as battles are generated the appropriate terrain area will be exported. I'm not the COCAT guy; that's Pal Woje.
