  1. Oh yeah , that reminds me, I have to update the "what Topics you hate" to include topics refering to the much hated MrPeng thread as much as the officially BTS sanctioned lot of PENG-or-ific threads.
  2. I think the loadout should depend on what the side is doing. Suppose its a meeting engagement. Guys are humping their crap overland and meet an enemy force. Maybe then the rounds per cubic inch of muscle plays in. But for defending, or assault, plenty of ammo can be assumed to be in the vicinity. Perhaps the game should decrease ammo load of the MG when the crew takes casualties. This is REGARDLESS if they move or not. This simulates the resupply being crimped. The game does simulate the depleted crew only taking so much. Hows that compare to the formulas so far? I see the same trend in the detachable Bren threads as here. People want the game to simulate down into the individual weapon (bullet?) realm. Anyone care to discuss ideas or is arguing the point of this? Lewis
  3. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by MrPeng: I know I am a sick individual because I enjoy the bad behavior of others, but when some of my favorites get their panties in a bunch over trivia regarding a computer game it just really gives me a lift. I also like the "my country can pee farther than your country" topics - for sheer black humor value you can't beat 'em. And who among us can forget the one and only ethernaljustice? that guy knew how to bait. Thank you, Lewis, for bringing back some fond memories.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> yeah I get a gush out of puttin a wedgey to a limey's knickers. Bren guys running around willy nilly now? What next, guv'nuh, red moustached pipe players marching up and down the field? Of all lifes pleasures, is there any so fulfilling as making fun of someone where you know it hurts deepest? Pure uncut pleasure I tell you. Warms the frozen cockles around my ugly heart... hehehehe (diabolical snickering) Lewis PS I dont *like* you MrPeng
  4. Are you for real? You named off a bunch of elite units! The US airborne was one of the most physically fit and trained units ever! they ran in boots too. The US airborne also closed with its enemy and were really shock troops. When they were forced to be line infantry, they took high casualties. They were trained to fight rear echelon battles and overcome at all means. I was speaking of modern armies btw. I understand that PT is being diversified in some armies also. Drills like carrying a buddy up a hill piggyback races (sounds like too much fun) and other toughening exercises replace 3.25 mph jogs for 1.5 miles in running shoes. I ran a mile in 6:40 in combat boots in basic. With shin splints. Not too bad. Combat shooting should be head sized pop up targets up to 100 meters. Moving torso sized pop up targets should also be used for 100-250 meters. there should be a training aid that simulates enemy fire overhead while shooting. Lewis
  5. What about "I am leaving now and you will miss me when I am gone" announcements? Its like reading suicide notes. Cant stand the heat? I dont care. Dont like someone? So what. feel the urge to get melodramatic? Do it somewhere else. jeez
  6. Burgett claims that they went to Bastogne with some guys carrying nothing. Some no ammo, some no weapons!
  7. The burst length can also be a function of enemy proximity and magazine limitations (in infantry weapons). hence the value of a belted option, if need be barrel be damned, and go for broke. Another factor is time between bursts (whatever the length of the burst) or what the duty cycle is. The greater the range, the longer the down time in the duty cycle. You have to observe the impacts to guage effects and adjust accordingly. Firing blanks gets weapons red hot also. i wonder what the source of real heat is, friction or the temp/pressure? Is rifling a factor? Lewis
  8. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Brian: No, I never had the (mis)fortune to fire the weapon in anger. I've fired, Brens, in both .303 and 7.62x51mm calibre. L2a1 Automatic Rifles, M60 GPMG's, FN-MAG58 and Minimi. All had their different attributes. My favourite was I admit the Bren in .303 - purely because of its accuracy (something it partially lost in 7.62mm). My least favourite is a tossup between the L2a1 and the M60. However, thats largely personal taste, rather than military utility or functionality. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I would venture that taste would change against an opponent that was armed with belted full auto weapons. Its nice to be accurate on the firing range and feel secure but its another thing having supersonic bullets crack about your head. Most peace time military training is BS. Firing at pop up targets that dont move is especially a waste. PT and running in sneakers and shorts is stupid. In a squad sized ambush, I would want a belted MG and as many semi/3-shot weapons as possible. Now, I dont want to change your mind. I just want you to see that your opinion is based on your experience and its not what the game is depicting. Lewis
  9. What about those Topics where someone is trying to get in touch with someone? Hey XXXX I lost your email! YYYYY send me a turn if you are still alive! Has anyone seen ZZZZ lately? Hes missing and I am beggining to start to worry..
  10. recent rexford post: British Inert Filled 75mm APCBC How do they get all that Inert in them shells? Is there a quality control person to make sure the Inert doesnt leak out? is Inert against teh Geneva convention?
  11. A 1941 -1944 (CMBB) period platoon could have up to a dozen or even more SMG's and numerous LMG's. I'm still looking for an official OOB but for all I know the platoon structure remained the same throughout the war, only the number of automatics increased through battle field acquisitions. For someone that cant go on enough about the Finns, you mean to tell me you dont have an order of battle? yeah, let us know when you find out tero.
  12. In a cave it would deplete all the oxygen. In vietnam, regular grenades would wipe out the O2 and someone trapped in the tunnels would choke. Ive read of german troops, under WP attacks, going on coughing jags till they passed out cold for hours. Sometimes waking up behind the lines cause the GIs thought they were dead. Sherman 75mm, 81mm mortar, 4.2 inch mortar, 105mm. Ive read of all these weapons using it. Ive read of infantry using it also as a hand grenade too. Mentions of rifle grenades being common also. Supposedly the japanese fired it as AA. Theres film footage that shows it was done. The US sherman 75mm certainly used it. It was used as a weapon and preferred to HE sometimes. Its a dangerous round to carry because if it is ruptured, theres maybe a split second before the inside of the tank gets deadly. Another reason for wet stowage! Ive read of german tankers hating it because it could get down into the engine area and start fires. If fuel was sloshed it would ignite it and it would also burn hoses, wiring, etc. the smoke was noxious and woudl get sucked into the tank. It was passed over. In retrospect, the german tanks have a hard enough time staying alive without this threat. Lewis [ 08-31-2001: Message edited by: Username ]
  13. Oh excuse me (or as priest sez "My Bad!!!"), That belongs in the worlds unfunniest sig lines.
  14. Priest (you like the lead singer for Judas Priest I take it?). Is your sig ever going to become funny? Its barely a groan.
  15. Back to the point (this thread is supposed to be about US getting whatever they want). The US used WP in WWII. It isnt modeled in the game.
  16. What about rexfords seemingly out of the blue style of naming threads and posting? Topic Panther APCBC quality control concerns (Translation: Please buy my book, I am begging you, please somebody , anybody..) Text of Thread (no introduction) Panther..blah..blah..blah .. we do research .. blah..blah..blah ... as in book... blah BLAH ..blah.. we see this..blah blah.. french website...blah..blah..if that, then so this... blah blah..blah. (sudden stop) (Translation: Please buy my book, I am begging you, please somebody , anybody..)
  17. British Field Artillery Undermodelled? This is a pretty lamo one. You just know the origionator is got a half a chip on his shoulder and something wedged in his butt sideways.
  18. Perhaps they should correspond to army speak? Thread, non-constructive, discussion, brit weapons.
  19. Its obvious people are not going to get over names. I dont care if its called a SAW, LMG, MMG, HMG or a Light, medium and heavy machinegun or a squad, platoon, company , battalion weapon, yadda yadda. It aint what you call it, its what it can do. I believe BTS feels this way also. They also claim that they look at things from a scientific (actually from an engineering) standpoint. Brian, you seem to have fired the Bren weapon in real combat against armed human beings, tell us what kind of LMGs you went up against. Lewis [ 08-30-2001: Message edited by: Username ]
  20. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Panzerman: You should title your posted don't read this it gets more attention that way... Did I say that woops... <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Yes, you did say that. Whats it mean?
  21. I like the ones also BTS: Must do sumfink Like BTS will respond or that 'somefink is funny anymore.
  22. jason loves to dig in his heels. I recently had the pleasure of going up against his recent "All tank battalions experience is about the same" thread. When he posted a history of a US tank bn, I posted a history of a german bn. Since the ammo usage seemed about the same, he started drawing all kinds of leaping conclusions about my data supporting his premise. When I pointed out that the numbers of vehicles werent the same, he poo-poo'd it. When I showed the number of runners wasnt the same, he did it again. How anyone can participate in two different threads so differently is amazing. Here he wants the number of guys, their mothers maiden names, weight per bullet per man per hour per ad nauseum while in another thread its all, well, its close so its the same. He did, however read rexford the riot act in the HE effectiveness thread that rex wishes would just go away. Very interesting. Lewis
  23. I keep a length of pipe that slips pver the factory supplied lug wrench. this allows a greater moment arm and the ability to put ones body into it. I cant beleive the deathtraps people drive around in. If you rotate the tires, the chance of frozen nuts is zip. with the price of gas, tire maintenance can easily pay for itself. Anyway, any Bren gunners here? I think I read that a MG42 could get the old barrel out in seconds without getting up. Literally from the side of the weapon it will come out.
