Pirate, Sorry if turn based doesn't do it for you, but as has been said umpty-skillion times it is not possible to achieve the high degree of realism found in CM in a real-time engine, unless you happen to own a personal super computer. If I were forced to complain about something in CM, I suppose it would indeed be the fire and smoke GFX. However, I am more than happy to wait for CM2 for that... I think CM has 'cool flash bang' a-plenty, but that's just me. Playing it is a visceral experience unlike any other wargame I have ever seen. I find it even more immersive than 1st person shooter type games in that it represents a real-life situation in a realistic way. I liked Half Life also, but really, some scientist singlehandedly wipes out a brigade or so of Special Forces? -
Ah, but wait till the full version with editor comes out! My first project will be the Horribly Unbalanced Revenge Type Scenarios from BetA Demo (HURTSBAD): Sir! We have all this 8" and 155mm ammo lying around and the war is almost over! Be a big pain in the ass to have to lug it all back home. Hmmm. It would be a damn shame to let all that ammo go to waste... And we just happen to have some Crocodiles and Sherman Jumbos handy... Let's pay a little, ah, 'visit' to Riesburg.... Teach the local Ratzis a lesson!!! Ah HAHAHAHA!!! PS. We really ned the Sturmtiger in the expansion so that I can set up a Last Defence variant in which one can destroy the reinforcement platoon and all three Hellcats with one shot!!!!

Why bother? They will almost certainly be inferior in one or more important areas in comparison to CM. Why would I want something inferior when I can have the best? I can't think of a good reason, either.

Heh heh... Couldn't have said it better myself! As for all these revenge plans I am seeing, consider this torture. One of my coworkers has succeeded in getting the theme music to the old TV show Green Acres stuck in my head. dum dum da-DUM DUM Fresh Air! dum dum da DUM DUM Times Square! AAARRGGGHHH!!!!! what could be worse???

What I do not like about town graphics !
Richard III replied to Thomm's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
A Paris scenario? Will there be an Eiffel tower model? Can we put some snipers and an arty FO up there? Nah, I suppose all the striking truck drivers will have blocked off the roads leading up to it anyway.... -

Sorta vagely relevant to this topic: did the KV-II have an AP round available for it? Or did it do its work solely with HE?

OT? US War Dept. Handbook on German Forces ...

Steve said:
quote:
You should see what the US Army had to say about the MG42!! Maybe a greenhorn would have bought it, but certainly NOBODY that went up against one would think it was more than BS.

What did it say?? Unreliable? Inaccurate?? [This message has been edited by Richard III (edited 01-18-2000).] -
Though the Pershing is my favorite in the CM time frame, the KV-II is my overall favorite. Yeah, so it didn't work so well, but imagine a 6" shell impacting a Pz. III! BOOM!!!

Attention all Canadians:

Speaking as a resident of Boston, Craig et al can keep their lousy weather!! I practically froze my ears off going out for breakfast this morning! BRRRRR.... -
ok how about a MAXIMUM release date?
Richard III replied to a topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Well, I've said this before but... I have been waiting literally ten years for a game such as this one. I will very happily wait a few extra weeks to get it done right. Who are we to second guess those who have put two and a half years into making this game? Why put all that work at risk for the sake of a couple of lousy weeks? -
Hey!! Where's my favorite tank?
Richard III replied to Richard III's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Hey Steve, That's great! You guys think of everything. I thought that there was only one Super Pershing in service before war's end. -
Hey!! Where's my favorite tank?
Richard III replied to Richard III's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Well, since we've seen all these screenshots of 'cool' German vehicles, I was wondering if we could see some 'cool' Allied vehicles. Just seen the Croc so far.... Please? After all, you haven't heard a word about 'release date' from me... BTW, did you model the T26E4 'Super Pershing' also? -
Hey guys, Someone must have a screenie of my favorite tank in action: Aw please?

Things you should not expect from CM
Richard III replied to killmore's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Will we see: Dead bodies killed by white phosphorus fired by a nahvertigungswaffe at a Norwegian army Panzerschrek team running through impenetrable bocage to escape the graphics of fire and smoke tweaked by CoolColJ because its -45 degrees in Saskatchewan and the demo doesn't have TCP/IP support because of barrel droop? Did I forget anything? -
TOBRUK, The last link is misspelled. It should be" http://www.track-link.net/gallery.htm

I was myself going to post a more generic question... just what did civilians in reality do in the war zone? Hide in the cellar until the front had passed? Flee the town altogether?
