You wimps! Why bother with some cheesy mortars or non-self propelled guns. I want to see a REAL TANK for REAL MEN in Combat Mission. Here it is: "a 1500 ton superheavy tank, cased in 250mm of armour, armed with an 80cm gun and two 15cm weapons, and powered by four U-boat diesels." Ahhhh! Well, its New Years Eve and I have a horrible flu > . I likely won't be drinking anything stronger than Nyquil today, and my sole companion today will probably be the Personal Memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant. Perhaps someone would like to take pity on me and slap up some nice screenies of Allied Heavy Metal in action. Why should the Hun have all the fun?

Well, I left the board gaming world perhaps ten years ago and until now I have not seen a computer wargame that truly engenders the 'jaw on the floor' syndrome as much as Combat Mission does. Since I have been 'waiting' for ten years for something akin to CM, I can wait an extra few weeks to get it done CORRECTLY. After all, the Beta Demo by itself is the best computer wargame I have ever seen. I can only wonder how good the final product will be.

Searched on this subject but didn't find anything relevant. I assume from the new 'Heavy Metal' screenshot of the JagdPanther ricochet that shot traps are modeled? I'm thinking here most notably of the Porsche turreted Tiger II. TIA

Wouldn't this system allow for really silly battles? In Steel Panthers I, when bored, I used to do a random 'Japanese Assault' scenario in which I would buy truckloads of .50 cals, M16s and Chaffees and then mow down the onrushing hordes like something out of WWI. Good for a no-stress cakewalk, but hardly approaching anything that would have been seen in WWII.

Speaking of Bren carriers, what exactly was the point of the Kettenkrad? Mechanical mule? Tow AT guns? I've seen film of them towing planes around. What did they do on the battlefield?

I have nearly always heard this weapon called Stug-44, StuGw-44 or SG-44. I see in CM and in the pictures of Steve at the gun range it is referred to as MP-44. Is this actually a diferent, presumably shorter, weapon distinct from the SG-44? Is this a 'popular' vs 'official' designation? How good was this weapon? Since we have photographic evidence of at least one forum member shooting one, we have some first hand experience here. Lastly, were the strange curved barrel variants ever actually used? What did a curved barrel do to muzzle velocity? What was one supposed to do if an enemy were directly in front of the firer? Seems quite a bizzare idea to me. Lots of questions, but I think that this is the place to get the answers!

My favorite thing about Alexander Nevsky is the fact that the film as it exists now is missing a reel. Notice how the two main characters just show up without any sort of introduction at all? Evidently one reel was being edited when the movie was first shown to Stalin. They were so terrifed of Stalin that it was decided to destroy the missing reel and pretend it never existed rather than admit that someone screwed up. My next favorite fact is that the ice floe scenes were filmed during unseasonably hot weather, IIRC styrofoam being used to substitue for ice.

Although I would love a PTO version of CM, I must admit that I would purchase a CM game set in any theater of war Steve and Charles choose to favor us with. As for North Africa, doesn't anyone remember the old Avalon Hill game Tobruk? One of my all-time favorite board games, it featured individual vehicles and squads as Combat Mission does, suggesting to me that a N. Africa CM would be fun indeed.
