  1. Oops, sorry all, been away too long. All of my sounds were developed using a SB Audigy 2 under Windows 2000 Pro. There are no 'clicks' or static in any of the files. I think that the majority of you probably either need to update the drivers for your sound and video cards (yes, your video card in conjunction with your sound card can be causing the problem) or you need to fiddle with the settings on your sound card. Don't forget about the BIOS updates for your cards as well. Turn off any type of 3D enhancement that your card may have and/or turn down hardware acceleration on your video card and see if that helps. You can also go the route that I have taken and buy a new sound/video card... Since I only have the one computer at home, it's impossible for me to test the sounds with a number of different sound/video combinations, but if all of your drivers are up to date (and compatible with the OS that you use) then your settings are the likely culprits... One last thing you may want to try... Check out this utility: ReClock and see if it helps. Be sure to read about it on the site and the reasons why it may help. Cheers... 2. Yes it is. I grew up in Clinton myself and moved to Little Rock when I got out of the Army and now live in Jacksonville. You are the first person that I have met on this forum from Arkansas... For all: as to the patch, the link does not work so I am removing it from the webserver. If you need the patches, just email me at jjohnson@ci.sherwood.ar.us and I will send them your way. I only have access to this email address between the hours of 7:00 am and 3:00 pm CST, so if I don't send it to you today I will get it first thing in the morning...
  3. Ok, first, the 00005001.wav which I released has no 'click' at the end that can be heard when it loops, on my system at least. It more than likely has something to do with your sound card/directx/etc. I have a couple of patches that I am emailing to Scott so that he can post them alongside the main installers. For a VERY short time (like a day or so), you can download them from my companies website here: Removed or here: Removed. Like I said, this is only for a limited time as I am not supposed to be using my companies webspace. Someone grab them and let me know if this fixes your problem. If the patcher says that the file can not be patched because the CRC's do not match, then you have a corrupt copy and need to reinstall the ambient file at least. 4. Hey Apache, if you could, listen to the sound in windows media player and mark down the time when you hear the 'click'. I could not hear a click in my original file and I'm thinking it is something else. If you don't mind, send me mail to jjohnson@ci.sherwood.ar.us when you find the click in the timeline. Thanks...
  5. Hey Oddball, take Apache's advice here. It's all a matter of personal taste. There's absolutely no reason for anyone to quit modding because a rival mod comes out. In fact, it's actually a good thing. It makes us strive to produce a better product and that is good for the user base and the game itself. I'm sure it won't break BFC's heart if we keep the game alive through modding. It will have the effect of keeping people playing their older games which will in turn keep them buying their newer products.
  6. Yes, the original files are backed up. As far as the molotov goes.... that is on the agenda... My work has seen fit to make me the systems administrator and overall computer 'guy' for our approx. 150 employees, so that keeps me pretty busy. After the patch to correct the 'click' in 5001.wav, I will probably release one more mod for CMBB and then patiently await the release of CMAK... To MrNoobie: I've been around here for quite a while now, this is not the last you will see of my sound mods. Of course, if BFC ever wanted to contract out for a sound engineer on one of their future products, then I wouldn't have to release a 'mod'...
  7. Thanks for pointing this out to me. It's either an oversight on my part or something happened to the file during the install. Monday evening is the earliest that I will be able to take a look at it and if need be, I will generate a patch for the file.
  8. I'd just like to say to everyone that have enjoyed these sounds and have given me thanks: It's my pleasure. As far as the 5001.wav is concerned, it's either an oversight on my part or a product of the installer. At any rate, I will check it out Monday evening and post a patch if need be. FYI. I will use codefusion to generate the patch, so we're not talking about another 20mb+ download here...
  9. I don't mind, that is fine... I asked earlier in this thread if any of the mac users wanted me to include an archive for them but got no reply. Thanks buddy...
  10. The mods are available! Go to Boots and Tracks website to download them. Of course, he calls them the Jon Sherwood sound packs, but that is ok... lol...
  11. An excellent piece for CM:AK would be 'O Fortuna' from Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. Add some background battle noise to it and it would be awesome...
  12. I spoke with Scott yesterday. He will be updating his site either tonight or tomorrow night. As soon as he lets me know they are online, you guys will be the first to know...
  13. One is included in my new sound mod. As soon as Scott tells me it is ready for download I will post the link...
  14. Hopefully this weekend. I mailed the CD to Scott last Friday. He is in CT, so he should have it by now... The one that went to Sweden probably won't be there until next week sometime...
  15. Well, if you are speaking of mine.... Any day now....
  16. Any day now... I should receive an email in the next day or so that the mods are available for download. I will post a new topic when they are ready...
  17. Update 2: found a US host. CD's are going out to the two respective parties on Friday or Saturday. Final file sizes are: CMBO - 37mb and CMBB - 43mb. 253 total sound fx.
  18. Update: The mod is finished. Wild Bill has given it a thumbs up, so it is ready for distribution. I have one person in Europe who wants to host it and am still looking for a US host. The CMBO installer is 36mb and the CMBB installer is 43mb. There are well over 200 sound fx between these two mods. Comparisons of original vs modded in-game sounds will also go to the host so that you can download it and listen to see whether or not you want to spend the time downloading these large files. As soon as I get the address for the guy in Europe I will mail him a CD. If anyone knows of a host in the US that will be willing to post these files, let me know... Thanks... Jon
  19. Excellent... I'll just create a couple of .sit archives then...
  20. Unfortunately the installer is for win32 machines only. As the files are windows wav files, you would have to convert them on your own anyway. Now, if someone who uses a Mac will tell me what format the sounds need to be so that they can use them, I could possibly convert them all and create a Mac installation also. Having no idea how many people use Macs to play the games, would this be worth my while? If you use a Mac and want this mod, reply here... As soon as the (in)famous Wild Bill finishes testing these sounds out for me, they will be released. [ March 17, 2003, 08:52 PM: Message edited by: NCrawler ]
  21. Just a quick update for those interested... Hopefully soon, the new sounds will be going through 'sound testing' by an old friend at Matrix Games. I will keep you posted as to the progress and will let you know who will be hosting them... Thanks...
  22. I am currently putting the finishing touches on the installers for two sound mods. One for CMBO and one for CMBB. The CMBO mod contains 92 new sound effects while the CMBB mod contains 160. They will include selective installation and an uninstall option. The only problem that I have at the moment is that I am currently online with a 56k modem and my DSL will not be turned back on for a month or so. I need someone to host these mods for me. The installer for CMBO will be approx. 30MB while the CMBB will be approx. 45MB. I will be willing to send them to a host on CD. If you would like to host these mods for me, please send me a link to your site to jon165sherwood@aol.com and we can then work out the details of getting the files to you. I will also include comparison .wav's of the original sounds vs my mod so that users can determine if it is worth their time downloading such large files. IMHO, when they hear the MG34 and MG42 sounds, they will have no problem downloading the mods. Thanks...
  23. While it's true that 'complete' sound mods are important, I have to disagree that it is the "most important" aspect. IMHO, the amplitude of your sounds is more important than completeness. Since we are forced to work with mono instead of stereo sounds, as long as all sounds in the game are near the same amplitude, even 'crappy' ones will fit in nicely. Another important thing to do is to make sure that your looping sounds, ie. vehicle movement sounds, sync up at the beginning and end. If this is not done correctly, you will get 'clicks' in your sound when it loops back to the beginning. Using Cool Edit Pro or any other good sound editor, zoom in to both the entry and exit points of your wave and manually flatten them. As long as there are no drastic modulation or decible differences between the beginning and end of your sound, it will sound seamless. I will get off of my soapbox in a moment, but first there is one last point I need to make. The use of the mp3 codec to compress your sounds may save a ton of space, but it is a very 'lossy' compression algorithm. You lose a lot of high and low end decible ranges in the conversion between wave and mp3. I can certainly tell a difference in the quality of one of my sounds after having passed through the mp3 to wave conversion process. If you are looking to save space then I would recommend using the ACE archiver to compress them. The ZIP compression technology is aging and in several comparison tests around the internet, ACE and RAR blew it out of the water. Well, that's enough for now . Hopefully someone will glean something from my ramblings... For those who do not know of the ACE or RAR compressor, you can find them here: WinACE Home WinRAR Home
  24. Hello everyone... Man, it sure has been a while since I've posted here and I finally purchased a copy of CMBB (a messy divorce tends to disrupt your life a bit ). Anyways, I should have my high-speed DSL once again, in a month or so and I have several new sounds for both CMBO and CMBB. I have lost touch with David Heath at Matrix Games so I am no longer actively employed with them, I suppose I will just freelance it a bit. Someone in this thread stated that they could not find a suitable audio editor... I would recommend Audacity, a free open-source editor that can be found at their homepage. Not on par with Cool Edit Pro or Sound Forge, but better than none at all. At any rate, it's good to finally be back, even though it's at a 56k limited capacity. I think that I will go check out the CMBB sound map now...
  25. Yes...I will be releasing a new sound mod soon which includes a new vehicle bogged sound, as well as 75 other replacement sounds...
