  1. The Tiger's main gun is accurate and long ranged- stand off and use the range to your advantage-like a giant sniper rifle.
  2. Therontmoore: Go to START/PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/CLIPBOOK VIEWER if you have WIN95
  3. Apocal: The symbols are as follows: Heart = Morale +1 Heart/Gold Box = Morale +2 Lightning Bolt = Combat +1 Lightning Bolt/Gold Box = Combat +2 Star = Command +1 Star/Gold Box = Command +2 ? = Stealth +1 ?/Gold Box = Stealth +2
  4. Your brother sounds like he learns fast...
  5. Although it was mentioned by several in an oblique way, nobody actually came out and said it- orient your tanks so that the left or right front corners are pointed at the shooter (10-11 o'clock, and 1-2 o'clock). This increases armour protection significantly. This is discussed in great detail in the actual Tiger field manual, "Tiger Fibel" (Tiger Bible). I have only played the game once- still playing it, actually. When the Hellcats appeared at the crest of the hill, the TacAI took over my Tiger and destroyed two in one minute at 780m. I was hit once in the mantlet (the shot shattered) out of four shots fired. On the next turn, I duked it out with the last Hellcat, firing three times to his two, and destroyed it. I'm writing this so people can compare how the same basic scenario plays out differently given only slightly differing conditions.
  6. One of the neatest features of the game are the sound effects, which we were never really exposed to until now. Really immerses you- I was so immersed that I didn't realise that that "big rock dropping into a garbage can" was one of my 251's getting the chop!
  7. Kevin_Peltz@telus.net ICQ 52464286 Just how in hell can you have a skill level when you haven't even seen the demo yet?
  8. Oh great, now the jarheads will think they can shoot through hills...
  9. No info on the armour on the trailer- but it weighed 13,000 lbs, carried 400 gallons of fuel, and seven nitrogen bottles. Range was between 80 to 120 yards depending on wind. The trailer hitch had a quick disconnect in case of trouble. The fuel lines ran in an armoured conduit beneath the tank.
  10. Does it have the armoured fuel trailer with it?
  11. Steve: It will work out close enough- I'll send it to you when it is done.
  12. Market-Garden should provide myriads of scenarios that would suit CM. With regards Italy, I think a few could be concocted in the editor- I am planning on doing San Pietro myself- it is a small map, with perhaps 1-1/2 to 2 companies per side, only a handful of vehicles (Shermans/StuGs). Arty was limited to some 60mm and 80mm mortars. Should be able to dredge up everything from the CM database. The terrain was rough, and challenging.
  13. What about friendly fire casualties- putting two groups of men on either side of a road in ambush may not be the best thing to do, for example? Is it modeled- there was some discussion about this earlier, but I couldn't find what was finally decided.
  14. "Decision in the Ukraine-Summer, 1943-II SS and III Panzerkorps" by George Nipe
  15. C'mon Steve, quit beating around the bush- don't hide your feelings so much. What do you really think? You're so ambiguous sometimes... [This message has been edited by Kevin Peltz (edited 10-07-99).]
  16. Been playing PitS and ToP2. Teaching a friend of mine that even Tigers aren't invincible at point-blank range.
  17. PS- Thomas, please do not shoot at Steve until CM has gone to the presses (or whatever they do to make CD's).
  18. I don't think too many German generals relished the idea of airing out on the end of a meathook.
  19. If I was a tank driver, and the turret above me was turning, I would assume there would be a very compelling reason for that- no way in Hell would I be looking around outside! [This message has been edited by Kevin Peltz (edited 10-05-99).]
  20. Elvis: I have always had Matrox cards and I have never, ever had any problems with them. I think they are first rate, and perform admirably. They are not cheap in Canada, don't know what they cost in the US.
  21. Thomas has it right- there is only a thin veneer covering what we all really are underneath, and it gets thinner by the day. The bulk of us who have never been in a war, try to establish a set of parameters that will explain (condone?) this extreme behaviour in a form that can be quantified against the rest of our normal, moral, existence. It is so far outside of a non-combatants frame of reference that it is probably a mistake to even try to moralize. The worst comes out, and nationality, borders, etc. cease to have meaning. It is brutal, and brutal acts were, and will continue, to be committed by all parties. It is part of the animal that we try hard to pretend is not inside us.
  22. Is there a demo for Mech Commander anywhere?
  23. Jason: I can answer a couple of your questions, if that is OK- I would call the Deuce-and-a-half a medium truck- there was also a 5 ton that was used, but not nearly as much. The 2-1/2 would be able to carry a squad easily enough, if I recall. The Horch 1a is probably more closely similar to the Dodge 3/4 ton weapons carrier, at least in size, anyway. It could carry 4-5 people. Of your list of like to have's, I think I would like to see the 222 and the M16 Quad- the M16 would be ferocious, that would bust a few heads! We need a Churchill VII and a Universal Carrier, too. I get the impression that the above is a partial list, so we will see.
  24. BTS has carefully counted and come up with only 80 names- that's right, 80 names generating all these posts. Based on this, it has been decided to raise the price of CM from $40 to $4000 per CD. However, you will get TWO free posters.
  25. Six voices, eh? One for each company- you could have a decent multiplayer game going all on your own.
