1. Actually the same is true of most HT's. If you kill one crewmember it can't/won't fire it's weapon. The US M3 may be an exception since some had both a 50 Cal and a 30 Cal MG. The standard MMG Carrier has the same issue.

I got a Wasp in a recent PBEM for the first time and they are a blast. But the last point made by OsinO is especially true. While the flamethrower will force units out of a location, it won't (necessarily) kill the squads. That's when it's nice to have some firepower to nail them as they rush into the open.

  2.
quote:
Hey Borg,

Get your butt in gear! We got another one here that needs assimilating.

I think the problem is that he's been working on "assimilating" with "Seven of Nine" ... if you get my drift.

  3. Mr. W.W. I'm in the Salt Lake valley ... and in order to look at the sky I would have to be outside, which in turn would mean I WOULDN'T be on my PC playing CM. My house is the one with the 12 foot weeds and cobras, you can't miss it. Look for the moving van when my wife moves out too, that will be another clue.

Seriously there are at least two others here in Utah playing CM via PBEM. Shoot me an email (it's in the profile) and we'll talk smile.gif

  4. Borg? Borg? Where the HELL is the CM Borg? You just can't trust those clowns. "You will be assimilated" yeah right, as long as they're not taking a break.

Anyway, welcome to the board ... you'll find out about the Borg shortly I'm sure ... and enjoy this great game to which we've all become addicted.

  5.
quote:
shaw--it's only theft if you do not have the right to use the code.

If you don't understand the difference then I probably can't explain it to you. It is theft because it is an illegally obtained copy, and NO, the license does not give you that right. If the "electrons" are obtained without a license attached then it is not a legitimate copy and owning such a copy is theft.

  6.
quote:
He did not steal in any sense ...

Nonsense, pure and utter nonsense. While you MAY choose to see his actions as a minor sin, sin it was. DLing software from a pirate site is THEFT, nothing less. That he may have been entitled to a copy and that he prepaid doesn't change the fact that he committed theft to a greater or lesser degree. And worse, from the standpoint of most of us, is the fact that by DLing from the pirate site he further encouraged those sites.

Will his one DL make or break the pirate sites? Of course not, but they are thiefs and should not be encouraged, ESPECIALLY by someone who is involved (to whatever degree) with the firm generating the software.

  7. Search is good, however Zafford, to answer your question, you will see casualty figures on the ground when you eleminate a squad or team. In terms of the reduction of the unit, you will see fewer than three figures as the squad takes casualties. Finally, if you choose to play without FOW, you can click on each unit and see it's complete status. I prefer the full FOW, the "not knowing" is more interesting to me. I don't personally see any value in having a "dead" man for each casualty. Just my opinion of course. As Toad mentioned, check the search for full information.

  8.
quote:
There are many strategy manuals on the market already, some have been out for a while, e.g.:

    Sun-Tzu ...

Yeah Ethan, I really liked the one he did for Warcraft, my Orcs really rocked after reading his stuff. smile.gifCrap, looks like we found one of your escapees. What do you use for luring them back into their cages? PENGuin bait?

  9. Lewis' reply in it's entirety:
quote:
Really ... He should be called Mild Bill Milder.

quote:
Pity it will be taken out of context, responded to partially if at all and generally treated as if it's of no relevance to the discussion.

...responded to partially if at all ...

EDITED COMMENT: Opps, my bad, he did respond ... I'll let you judge if the reply was responsive.

  10. Sorry Pat, I thought I made it clear that I HAVE an updated Norton package and that Norton did pick it up. I too am surprised that it didn't pick it up upon receipt but only when I tried to respond to the message.

I'm assuming that since the virus was part of the attachment and not part of the email and that's why it showed up where it did, i.e. in the Temp directory.

Norton did allow me to delete the infected files.

Of course I immediately informed all of my opponents that the problem showed up.

  11. If I had to guess (and apparently I must or I wouldn't be posting) I would look to the experience level of the sniper. I had a Volksturm (sp?) sniper who was ordered to move toward and fire at an Ami MG team. He started that way, apparently had second thoughts, turned around and went back to his foxhole. smile.gif

OTOH, I've had some success nailing TC's and exposed HT gunners. Remember that the gunner on a HT may LOOK exposed but the HT can still be considered "Buttoned". The key is to look at the info for the HT and see what it says about the buttoned status. I'm not certain, but a HT gunner may have to be "unbuttoned" in order to fire. I'm at work and can't check on that right now.

  12. Let me start this by stating that I'm relatively unfamiliar with viruses and so any further information would be appreciated.

I'm using Netscape (Pile of Steamy Poo) for my email manager on my PC with Win98. I recently got a virus warning from my updated Norton Anti-Virus program. It did not, however, warn me upon receipt of the email but rather when I tried to REPLY to an email with a PBEM turn.

The file was received as normal, I saved the turn as I normally do (i.e. right click on the attachment icon and "Save As" the filename in the appropriate folder). Then I played the turn and saved it. When I got ready to send the turn back, I opened the previous email from my opponent and chose "Reply" so that I could respond to some statements he made (God, you're an idiot, What a Stupid Move, the usual). I attached my turn and SENT the file. When I hit send, my Norton program kicked in and advised me that a file in my C:\Windows\Temp directory was infected with the WScript.Kak virus. It then allowed me to delete the file. I was finally able to send my turn to my opponent by creating a NEW message that wasn't a Reply.

This has ONLY happened with this particular opponent and it has happened twice with two different turns.

In researching further, it appears that this virus can and does infect PC's (apparently there aren't enough Macs in the world for hackers to care about smile.gif ) and propogates itself through MS Outlook and Outlook Express. It also CAN cause Windows to shut down.

I have two points regarding this issue:

    1. Since I'm using Netscape (POSP) I'm presuming that I'm NOT sending this virus to my other opponents. I'm also assuming that Norton is picking up any problems and allowing me to delete the offending files in my Temp directory. Any thoughts on my uninformed presumptions?

    2. Be advised that this sort of thing CAN happen to you and make sure you have up to date Anti-virus programs. I'm also told that Microsoft has a patch for the bug in Outlook that allows this to happen.
