  1. Look at my profile I'm german...at least one week to go... Fred
  2. Oh my Lord! I remember the good old times, when in this board sound wargamers and grognards ruled... Now, a bunch of selfish, cry babies complain in a most rediculous way, full of self-pity. This is JUST A GAME! Obviously you have some serious problems in your life, but this has nothing to do with CM...maybe you should apply for some professional help... Fred
  3. Kuroth, BTS is staying away from this thread, because there is NOTHING they can do about it. The copies were shipped and will sooner or later arrive. What should BTS do? Jumping into their cars and personally deliver the game? Think positive; when the game arrives, you have the added value of 1. Dozens of new scenarios available for download 2. Knowledge of possible technical problems and their solution (see the Bug board) Fred
  4. Have you installed the FULL installation of the game? If not, I guess the program from time to time accesses the cd drive to load sounds. Fred
  5. Preacher, 1. Check your harddisk (scandisk) for bad clusters 2. Defragment the harddisk 3. Check for possible viruses 4. Make sure, that no other programs/tools/etc. are running as background tasks 5. Try to change your graphics settings (lower color depth and/or resolution) 6. Make sure that you have the current drivers for all your devices (sometimes, after installing Directx you have to re-install soem device drivers). 7. Do not overclock your system or your graphics card. Hope this helps Fred
  6. Does Madmatt know about this possible problem with MDMP1? Fred
  7. PzGren, are you special??? Just WAIT buddy, like all of us do... (are we wargamers really THIS WEIRD???) Fred
  8. Life is not always fun SBG, isn't it? I'm german...at LEAST one (long)week to go... HUDSON, where are you, when we needed you most??? Fred
  9. Capt, I hope that you get CM tomorrow...but think about us europeans...at least a week until we have JOY Fred
  10. Bumrush, hope you don't mind my first impression Anyway, welcome! Fred
  11. Thanks for you review sniper! This is going to be a very hard next week until I get my copy here in germany Fred
  12. I don't think so. I ordered some 5 or 6 games in the US and received all without any "import taxes". But in the EU, you can't be sure about anything Fred
  13. Ricky, #1 Do some research. It took lots of kilograms of ammo to kill a soldier in WW2 (someone here surely has the exact number This is not C&C. Remember, the 3 figures are just a representation of a full squad. #2 Lorak said it; it's an abstraction and not SWAT 3. #3 Must be very cool elite guys in your game; my soldiers usually run when under heavy fire. I guess, that you will be very alone here with your opinion about CM being unrealistic. Fred
  14. I usually don't feed the trolls, but... Bumrush, maybe even you noticed, that this is an english speaking forum, so stop your rants. And now be a nice troll and head back to your gun page... Fred
  15. As all can see now, in germany we have our share of stupidos too... Fred
  16. Steve, serious TROLL ALERT! Time to lock... Fred
  17. Hmm, it looks as if some people here do not realize what CM is. It is not: - a RTS game (and I doubt the "S" in this abbr.) with turns - a kind of "blitzchess" (rediculous!) - a rpg simulation of "being a Company Commander in WW2 with only a Micheling roadmap in his hands" It is a turn-based orders phase/simultaneous execution phase WARGAME. This is the way Steve and Charles (and all of us that are here for over a year now) wanted it. All these artificial constrains and limits (timer...a good lough on this! ...lanparties...) to mutate(cripple) this beautiful wargame into something it was NEVER meant for (clickfeast, or playing go and rush) shows me, that some people are obviously looking for another game. And Steve and Charles are smart enough to not move in this direction for a couple of more sales. And, btw, TCP/IP WILL be in. Charles said it. No need to ask him every day. All IMO; other opinions could differ. Fred
  18. We had this discussion in another thread in the "Tips and Techniques"(?) board. Your main argument is, that "a WWII CO has only access to THIS and THAT map...etc...". The point is, this is not a role playing game about "being a CO in WWII", but a wargame! Steve very clearly stated (in this other thread) that this will NOT change! CM will not be a "ultra-hyper-super realistic" CO rpg-like simulation, but it will stay a wargame, like the majority of the people here want it. Maybe PANZER ELITE could be the thing you are looking for, IF you want to recreate the "feeling" of being an "uninformed"(=total FoW) CO (Major/Captain) in WWII. Just my 2 pfennige here.. Fred
  19. Who said, that Commando raid type scenarios are not possible in CM 1? It's all about how the scenario designer sets up things. Imagine a small map, night conditions (maybe combined with bad weather), experienced elite units (British Paras for example), a little bit of cover for the advance, vs. some green german guards, that look into another direction. Using "Sneak" and "Crawl" for the Paras to approach the objective, you have the perfect "surprise" raid! Fred
  20. Murx, it is already in the game now: 1. If you want 5 minutes without user interaction, well, enter your orders and then hit 5 times "Turn done" without giving any further orders. Voila! If you only want to see the movie playback once or twice...just do it. No need for hard coded options. 2. Some people complain about the fog of war; they want "super-realistic" fow, like a CO in WWII experienced it. Read my first post. One of the most important things in a game is the feedback to the user. And this must be sufficient to base ones decisions on. So there MUST be parts of the game that could not be "realistic", because it enhances the game play to stay "unrealistic" in these areas. In other words, "more realism" does not mean "more fun". And, at least for me, gameplay is more important than ultra-realism. And on a real battlefield, units know in short time, if they are facing a green or a veteran tank crew, simply from the way they act. I could live with one more option of FOW ("super-hyper realistic FOW") as an OPTION to the now included FOW, but not INSTEAD of it. 3. Steve made it very clear (some time ago): CM will never go realtime. Conclusion: My vote against longer turns or artificial limits on the game play. Fred
  21. Murx, my opinion differs. CM is not a simulation game, or a role playing game about "being a CO in WWII", it is a wargame. You are not the CO, but a wargamer, sitting in front of a computer screen. And as a wargamer, I do not need time contraints or any "quasi being the CO" limits. If I want this, maybe I try Panzer Elite or another simulation game. So, CM is wonderfully balanced game, and it should stay this way. All, as usual, IMO Fred
  22. My fav is "Die Brücke" (The Bridge), directed by Bernhard Wicki. It's the movie where in the last days of WWII a group of young german boys (not all of them Hitlerjugend) get the order to defend a small (and unimportant) bridge against US forces. No SFX, black/white, but a masterpiece and a classic. Fred [This message has been edited by Fred (edited 06-16-2000).]
  23. Here is a web site with an in-depth review of the Ambush! game. It even has all the official game rules errata. http://flyhi.de/games/ambush1.html Fred
