1.
quote:
Originally posted by chris talpas: As part of 21st Army Group, we Canucks feel like we're in the same boat. So far only one person has reported receiving CM so far. So much for having shorter supply lines! My sincere wishes on your speedy relief Chris

Yeah and as long you do not have cleared that pocket of Breskens, Antwerp will not receive anything, I Think... There are still people who appreciate
2. Because it wasn't done in real action. The goal of each major operation in WWII seemed to be to secure bridges. Most of the streams, canals, rivers in Western Europe are slow flowing, deep waters. In case of small rivers the banks are steep or marshy. Do remember the story of Peiper, trapped at the village of La Gleize (Ardennes), just because he couldn't find a way to cross his armor the Ambleve (and that's only a small river, maybe 20-30 m wide and with several fords). However he could get his men out of the cauldron by wading the river Salm, but he did have to leave his armor behind.
3. I cannot afford to spend much money on books, but I admit, I renewed membership of the local public library. Has CM offers to create your own scenarios, I plunged into some stuff about the liberation of my hometown and discovered some interesting stories. e.g. The battle of the river Scheldt. Actually, this was an undercredited operation in the war, where mainly Canadians paid the toll. Though, some very interesting amphibious actions took place, (first use of Buffaloes on the Western front in order to liberate the Pocket of Breskens and in the attack of the island of Walcheren) Furthermore some ferocious fighting took place north of Antwerp against German para-regiments...could brew something nice out of it for a scenario...Scenerery building shouldn't be that hard as countryside is as flat as a pancake, even below sealevel. For the full version owners...can you simulate inundations in CM ?
4. If I understand this well....I should actually order now, so I will get my copy faster then the pre-ordered one, which is probably somewhere floating on the water.
5. Antwerp 29/6/2000 3 p.m. : nothing ! seems local postman has been recruited to mop up some lost English hooligans
6. yeah...last time you fella's came over, you raped grandma, and now I am stuck with an ordinary wiking last name. Cachez vos belles ! ------------------ Did you know, that the average lifetime of a forward observer in the frontline is...3 minutes.
7. I used to be arty FO during military service. During FTX manouevres I was send out in a CVRT with 3 (three) radio systems. So I was in connection with Bn HQ, supported Co HQ and of course the calculation center of the operational arty By. And I still didn't had a clue what was going on during the manoeuvre. This was in peace time in ideal conditions...imagine what happens while you're under fire. My opinion : big chaos. However, I am missing in the CM demo some fast moving recces to spot ennemy positions and then withdraw as hell. I allways sacrefice a splitted platoon or two. ------------------ Did you know, that the average lifetime of a forward observer in the frontline is...3 minutes.
8. Bertram made a good point here! in Western Europe you will find hardly nature in it's orignal state, maybe in the alps you'll find some patches. Look at the bocage, it was manmade. So are the forests in the Ardennes or Huertgenwald. Even the nowadays natural reserve on the Elsenborn ridge (Ardennes) is, besides the moors, not original. It were all "production" forests delivering the wood in support of the nearby coalmining industry. Trees were even planted in patterns, in order to extract wood more easily. Only Caesar may have seen the Ardennes woods in their original state.
9. Brings me to my mind that when we are shipping out stuff per DHL at the office, we add a pro-forma invoice stating "sample without value", which allows customer to collect courier without paying any taxes or duties. Maybe, I ask too much if BTS could include similar document *g* ------------------ Did you know, that the average lifetime of a forward observer in the frontline is...3 minutes.
10. sorry...mine is a nick. I use it just to honour the famous general who replied with "Ah nuts !" when he was asked to surrender the city of Bastogne to the Germans during the battle of the bulge (Ardennes 1944)... ------------------ Did you know, that the average lifetime of a forward observer in the frontline is...3 minutes.
11. One of the most famous events of the use of captured vehicles by the germans in an attack, was during the battle of the bulge. Otto Skorzeny's brigade used captured US vehicles and roughly disguised german material. On the first day of the offensive teams operated behind lines for work on sabotage and information in false G.I. uniforms. When Skorzeny realized that his plan of taking the bridges over the Meuse as disguised rear retreating US force wouldn't work out, he attacked in surprise the northern shoulder of the bulge (Malmedy). However his attack was brought to a halt due to the overwhelming american artillery. ------------------ Did you know, that the average lifetime of a forward observer in the frontline is...3 minutes.
12. Got that Geier !! In Belgium VAT amounts up to 21 %. But what I actually wanted to know is when and how do I pay this. Is this amount also deducted from my CC or do I have to pay at the post-office upon collection ? Sorry, but it's the first time I order on-line and want to anticipate problems. re soccer...seems Belgium was the second worst team sigh. Just hope Dutch won't win, vive Zinedine Zidane. ------------------ Did you know, that the average lifetime of a forward observer in the frontline is...3 minutes.
13. At the start of the Von Rundstedt offensive (Battle of the Bulge), Kampfgruppe Peiper (1st Panzer division : "Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler") counted a.o. 45 Tiger II (501e Abteilung Von Westerhagen). When Joachim Peiper finally escaped by foot the encerclement of La Gleize, he left behind six "Koenigstiger", which were still completely intact. One Tiger II has been placed in commemoration of the battle on the marketsquare of the village. An other one has been shipped to Maryland (Museum of Aberdeen). So if you want to create scenarios involving Kingtiger just follow the odissey of the 1st panzer divison (waffen SS) from Losheimergraben trough Stavelot til the attack on Stoumont (Dec 16-22, 1944) (You might have to include the massacre of 86 G.I. captured at Baugnez near Malmedy) Just type the name of "Peiper" and "La Gleize" in a search engine and several sites will pop up telling you the story. ------------------ Did you know, that the average lifetime of a forward observer in the frontline is...3 minutes.
