  1. Should be in Cedar Rapids tomorrow. What's the package look like?
  2. It could be. It's when I try to shift between a tank that's OK and one whose crew is bailing out. Doesn't matter which tank I start with. However, I have another tank whose crew is bailing out and there seems to be no problem shifting to or from that tank.
  3. While playing the CM:BB demo, I was shifting among my units (German) using the +/= and _/- keys. After moving to a few untis, the demo shut down on it's own. Any idea why?
  4. I have a question for all you well read members. Are any of you familiar with the monthly installment series called "The Complete History of the Second World War" by Cavendish(sic?) publishing? It was sold in book stores as well as grocery store magazine racks from the mid to late 70's. From what I remember in leafing through the 20 something complete binders (each binder has at least 20 issues) it appears very detailed and informative. Plenty of pictures and maps. I'm thinking about borrowing the complete set from my dad for my reading enjoyment, but I guess I'd like to know if it's worth my time. I don't want to be reading accounts that you "pro's" know to be inaccurate. Any help here? Thanks in advance... bigmac I have the series "History of the Second World War", published by Marshall Cavendish that you mentioned. A wealth of pictures, diagrams and maps. A little hard to follow the course of the war, since it bounces around from theatre to theatre, but a lot of info. I got all 96 issues & the binders and it was worth it.
  5. To find out more about "Enemy at the Gates", click here: http://upcomingmovies.com/enemy-at-the-gates.html
  6. Steve, When the final patch for TCP/IP comes out, will you be turning your full attention to CM2, leaving CM1 basically as it is?
  7. Mark IV - How did you know that the connecting walls were impassable? I'm playing that same scenario and nothing indicates that movement isn't possible directly between buildings. Can certain units do that? Maybe engineers?
  8. Version 1.02 is 1.01 plus more, so you don't want to try and patch it. The second batch of CDs were version 1.02, same as the latest demo. The next patch you need to worry about is 1.03 when it is released.
  9. Getting back to the question From the manual, "exposure (infantry/non-armored vehicles)" means "a percentage value, stating how much of the target is vulnerable based on an abstract maximum (100%)".
  10. "Hull down" position should be easy to determine. Select a target (by "target" I don't mean a enemy unit, but a spot on the ground) and your unit moves until it has LOS from the gun barrel, not the TC. Of course, if you set the target point hundreds of meters away you run the risk of something accidently interferring with it and you moving too far. However, if you do the same foolish thing with the "hunt" command you run risks also.
  11. The "hunt" move is used when the enemy is near (or you think they are) so that when they appear your unit will attack. If you come over a ridge, using "hunt", then your unit would attack IF there was a enemy unit. You would probably be in a hull down position. BUT what happens if you're coming over that ridge, using "hunt", and there's no enemy? Your unit keeps moving to the end of its movement. If we had a "hull down" move, then with the same example your unit would stop, before cresting the ridge, once it has a LOS to the "hull down" target point. This would be like the TC stopping his tank when it had a clear shot to the target point. Another use would be coming around a building JUST enough to have a clear shot. With the present method, you can't do this in one turn. You can move the unit one turn, THEN check the LOS the next turn. A lot of time can pass, time that might result in your unit getting smoked.
  12. I like Lewis's idea. Maybe I'm misunderstanding it, but I think some of you have it slightly wrong. "The player would then "stick" the line to a point in the frontal arc of the vehicle that is obviously out of the LOS of the vehicle. The vehicle would then get into hunt mode and advance till it gets an LOS to the designated point." Furthering this idea, think of the "hull down line" as the eyes of the tank commander. If the TC and his tank are in a deep gully and the "line" extends to a road that can't be seen by the TC, then the "hull down move" would imitate the TC ordering his tank up the side of the gully until he has a LOS to the road. You would get your "hull down" position the same way it's done in real life, relative to a fixed point on the ground and not to any particular enemy unit. If the enemy is at that fixed point, you're "hull down". If he's somewhere else, you may or may not be.
  13. Here are some of Fionn's comments in the other forum. He refers to the V1.02 & V1.03 patches as V1.2 & V1.3. I would assume V1.03 has everything V1.02 has. "I just had CAS appear in a DYO game using the V1.2 patch ( not public yet) which allows DYO games to have the defender receive up to 5000 points ( 5 times the size of current DYO games)." "I think you guys are going to see the V1.3 patch late next week. Turns out that V1.2 was just for us testers.. Charles ( workaholic that he is ) just couldn't resist taking the day or two in which we messed around with V1.2, to make sure it didn't break anything, to add a whole load more features and so now he's created a V1.3 patch I swear to God that if I hadn't seen pictures of him and could verify that there were no input/output ports in the back of his head I WOULD believe the rumours that he was a cyborg who lived off coffee and was plugged directly into a computer to generate code 24 hours a day. Anyways, basically, late next week V1.3 should be released barring any unforseen errors ( which, in this business one can never rule out ). Due to popular demand Charles added random time of day, random weather and random force experience options into the DYO battle editor. That's the biggest difference between 1.2 and 1.3 that I've noticed so far."

  16. Check my topic "Did you get it on the 25th????". You'll get your answer there.
  17. Just couldn't resist! You see, I'm probably the ONLY one who DID get my CM today! After a credit card mixup, Steve told me that my copy would go out the next day (the 22nd). Figuring 3 days, that meant it would get to my PO probably late Saturday, the 24th, and not be delivered until Monday. BUT, working for the USPS does have its advantages. Besides going "postal" and delaying or losing mail, postal employeess are VERY good at spotting each others' mail. I just alerted the postal "bloodhounds" as to when it was sent and what it would look like (thanks Steve!) and this morning we narrowed it down to one mail container. It took me 15 minutes of my lunch and going through about 200 parcels, but I found it!! To those in the state of Iowa, take this as a good sign. Monday COULD be your day!
  18. Nothing yet in the city of 5 seasons, Cedar Rapids.
  19. Capt Miller, when we get our copies, we're going to have to have the first All-Iowa CM Slugfest. I'm in Cedar Rapids and waiting.
