How about actual historical commanders names matched with units. I'm pretty sure I can find and match officer's names to units with the ASU library. If not an historical scenario, then the type of unit would be matched with an actual name.

Signal Whistle Sound Effects for Germans Fanatic leadership units calculate whether the leader is wounded, or not. If wounded, the unit is immobilized, but keeps leadership bonuses. Minefields with TRPs near them can make enough noise to alert AI forward observers, who then fire-up the TRP. If the player is human, then the TRP starts flashing. If a Battalion Command leadership unit is captured with only one pistol remaining, he says "victory or death" in his language and kills himself. First Names

Fallschirmjagers on the Eastern Front

I think the 1st Air Landing Division attacked to secure an airfield in 1941. -

Soviet Infantry Tactics
Chris Jenkins replied to Chris Jenkins's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I'm mostly thinking of July 1943. -
At what levels did the Soviets normally assign reserves? Did regiments use a reserve battalion? Did battalions use a reserve company? Did companies use a reserve platoon? How would a Soviet battalion array itself for a typical attack?

Talk about great! The first CO reminded me of the "bad" leader markers in ASL. I'm so glad he got fired.

Decadent, blue blood silliness.

Oh, yes. Jenkinsck@home.com. This is superlative. I can't wait to imbibe Chardonay with the owner's corpse, sipping the sweet fruits of my victory. Oh, to recline in the opulence of a good home. -
if there was an air war game that used CM's terrain. I'm not talking soomething linked to CM, but part of the same universe. After they rewrite the engine (and probably the terrain scale), they might consider contracting such a game. Someone could pay them for the rights to use the terain as the "world" for a new combat flight simulator. The turn-based nature of CM would not allow for these games to be linked, but shooting-up CM vehicles, structures, and flak guns would be fun.

Processor or RAM?
Chris Jenkins replied to Chris Jenkins's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
In the last few days I have gone from: 3D Prophet to 3D Prophet II MX 128MB RAM to 384MB RAM .28 DPI 15" monitor to .25DPI 17" monitor dying CPU fan to a brand new one and even got Rowan's Battle of Britain. Talk about improvement! CM is smoother, but I am sure that BOB would not look nearly as good. -
Since CM2 will have full battle playback (probably), will it also have computer vs. computer? It would be great to simply wait for a time and then watch an entire battle.
-
What will be affected by getting extra RAM? Will the battle take less time to compute, or will it look smoother? I'm getting 256MB tomorrow, and already have 128MB.

Interesting, yet funny fact about Hitler.
Chris Jenkins replied to Cubbies Phan's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
The story about Hitler having only one testicle is not true. This is confirmed in the amazing scholarly text "Explaining Hitler" by Ron Rosenbaum. The other was burned, like much of his body. He did suffer from an advanced case of syphilis. His doctor has confirmed this. He had two balls, he just couldn't use them. -

BTS: please come up with a unique title for CM2

Combat Mission 2: Between the Titans -
I am asking the community on this board for a moritorium on demands for new patches and modifications. As an Eastern Front buff, I really want the next game to be released. Do I want individual rifle squads listed in the "support" section of the editor? YES! Still, this would delay the game. I want to kill German Fascist Invaders by Christmas! ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky"
-
Wait, doesen't the new beta patch reduce the squads transportable to teams? Perhaps there should be an option, depending on where you stand on this issue. I am vexed. I am terribly vexed. ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky"

Anyone else done a gunnery range?
Chris Jenkins replied to Fenris's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I made a range by using flat ground and placing vehicles on 20x20 tiles. I had surrounded the tiles with water on all sides. This way, they stay where they are. ------------------ "Rinky dinky stinky thinky" -
What is Zimmerit anti-magnetic paste?

The runner also had to be fatalistic, which most Russians were. It was a suicide mission.
