1. May be tonight I will have that all important orders waiting for me to go ahead and I could place my men? ------------------ Boris Balaban WORK bbalaban@rim.net HOME b.balaban@home.com
 2. I to have had several bad targeting targets. One was my tank was driving down the road and I know of an enemy tank just ahead but with rain could not target it but he had infantry on the side so my tank targeted them with turret turned about 200 degrees and guess what, the enemy tank pops up in front of me just like I knew they would, now I lost my tank. It would be nice to have some influence on the targeting target, not 100% influence. ------------------ Boris Balaban WORK bbalaban@rim.net HOME b.balaban@home.com

Since Randy hasn't done bugger all and we can't raise him I'm going to have to ask the company com. to place the infantry and then pass it straight to armor, to me and to you Rob PeterNZ

Peter since I am on the Allied side go ahead a do this to get the setup done but for the first move order phase we could possibly try it? If Randy is not responding you could give orders to his units untill he joins us. ------------------ Boris Balaban WORK bbalaban@rim.net HOME b.balaban@home.com
 4. Rob I think in this type of multi player games needs a safety net and should be used all the time. The safety net is every player that sets up and/or gives orders to his men saves the game and sends the file to the next player and also to the BHQ of your side. Like this: Player A sets up saves game then emails Player B and BHQ the saved file. Player B is away on a job and no word for 3 days. The BHQ then sends the saved file of Players A to Player C while emailing Player B what is done. If Player C gets a file from Player B before he emails his move to Player D and BHQ he is to use Players B file and redo his orders. Something like that. This would move the game along for if any of the players were temp out of commission (like modem down for one thing). The BHQ can pass on the move to the next player to get the move done then at the end when all players have given orders you can try one more time to get their order in if not then the next higher ranking officer can give orders and get that move done. The BHQ then can then purge the extra copies of that move. What do you think? ------------------ Boris Balaban WORK bbalaban@rim.net HOME b.balaban@home.com
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Our medium term plan is to expand our programming capabilities. This probably won't be for at least 2 years though. In order for this to work, from our perspective, the Combat Mission engine needs to be rewritten. The only person to do that is Charles. So first we finish CM2, then we start to think about what comes next Steve

So the North African/Italian campaign will be with the new engine then (pray) or will a rewritten CM1 and CM2 will come first? My friend asked if a Pacific campaign will ever be? May be with the new engine? ------------------ Boris Balaban WORK bbalaban@rim.net HOME b.balaban@home.com
 6. Is your network clock right? It seems to be 1 hour ahead. You would not want to start a battle with your clocks wrong now would you? ------------------ Boris Balaban WORK bbalaban@rim.net HOME b.balaban@home.com
 7. Sorry It should have read: Has their been much discussion about CM II?
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Some more answers for you folks... There is no minimization notification. Honestly, Charles has no idea how to program this. It would be nice, though most people will find that they don't have time extra time to mess around with anything else, and therefore not need to minimize CM. There is only one clock setting for the entire game. Bigger battles will not only need more time to watch the replays, but more time to issue new orders. So pick a healthier clock setting. The player that rushes through the playbacks will likely be at less of a disadvantage than the one that insists on watching it several times over. The person that can watch the battle once, or perhaps twice, and yet get the bulk of the information needed to play the next turn, will likely be the player to beat. Also note that the Setup Phase is double the setting's time. Both sides can ask for a PAUSE, which gets rid of the timer for that particular turn. Usefull for beer runs and the follow up potty breaks Multi-multi player will not be in CM 2. We might have said that it will likely go into CM II. In any case, Combat Mission 2 (Eastern Front) is not going to have this feature. Combat Mission II (next generation of the game engine) will have multi-multi player. It is a HUGE deal to add this functionality so do not look for it any time soon Yes, we do in fact sleep Steve

Steve I guess I was sleeping when you guys (BTS) talked about CM II. 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Jeff Duquette: Personal Opinion here...CM2 Campaign Layer: I think it would be interesting if BTS expanded upon operations in CM2. Something akin to Close Combat V’s Campaign layer would be an interesting addition, with the stipulation that a campaign game editor is intrinsic to the game. The campaign layer could be a simplified version of an operational level wargame akin to a small game of Operational Art of War. A player commands a division or Corps at the operationalstrategic level. For example ISS Panzer Korps Counter Attacks around Kharkov Winter 42-43...German relief attempt at Korsun...Segments of the Stalingrad Battles...etc. Operationalstrategic layer moves are handled on a strategic layer map. Combat resolution at the strategicoperational level is handled via small unit combat actions on a formal Combat Mission map. A certain amount of abstraction would be required to keep actual tactical battle sizes manageableplayable. So perhaps a battalion at the operational level is modeled as a combined arms company during combat resolution on the tactical level. Results of the combined arms company tactical battle would be considered to be reflective of the entire battalions performance. Attrition within individual units is tracked between battle rounds.

So if I understand it, not only will the operation run serially but parallely too? The outcome of one battle on one of your sides determains what you will face?
 18. What time on Saturday? I will have lots of coffee and donuts standing by.
 19. Having played this way (not at this low level) with board games you just keep on your side of the line. Only if you have mechs would you cross the line. The one thing is we do not want to slow the game down any further than have to.
