1.
quote:
Originally posted by easy-v: RAM, the micro-brewery? Will they allow such low-brows as CM'ers there? There is one near Northbrook, where I work, and it doesn't seem like a bad place.

Yes.. that RAM. I've never been there before, but someone mentioned it and it sounds as good a place to meet as anywhere. Also, if anyone's coming from the city via the train, I can pick you up at Arlington Heights/Arlington Park stations (and, yes, I suppose I can drop you back off too). I'm not sure of the train schedules, though.
 2. Um.. I have no idea how we'll recognize each other.. I've met Rune before, so if he shows up I'll probably recognize him, lest he's gone and dyed his hair purple. I'll be the handsome twenty-something man with the shaven noggin, looking frightened to meet a bunch of middle aged men he's never met before in a bar. I'm fact, I'll probably be piss drunk when you all get there. Edited because Hooked on Phonics certainly didn't work for me! [ 10-16-2001: Message edited by: fytinghellfish ]
 3. I am not a grog. I have really no idea how artillery forward observers worked in WWII. I have a lightbulb pop in the ole noggin' last night though. I think this is original (my first original idea in many, many days): What if AFOs got to call for fire from more than one type of gun? If instead of having a 25lb FO, you've got one that you can use to call in 105mm, 155mm, 8in, etc.? Instead of buying specific FOs, you buy a generic one (or two, or three), and during set up you purchase ammunition. Buy 100 105mm rounds, 20 155mm rounds, 200 81mm rounds and the FO (or FOs) then designate what you want to hit your target with. The rounds are placed in a kind of "pool" that any FO can draw from, but each fire mission can only use one type of ammunition. However, two FOs can both use the same type of ammo at the same time, so you can have two 105mm bombardments at the same time from two different FOs, but you can't have one FO calling in 155 and 105mm at the same time. I used to be in the Army, and though I wasn't a field artilleryman, I seem to recall that while our FOs were attached from an artillery battery, they could call on any other battery available as well. I was a grunt though, and too busy complaining about all the crap I had on my back to really pay attention. Is this idea too unrealistic? Did FOs only call on their battery?
 4. OK.. Since nobody seemed to protest this date too much, I think it's safe to say that we'll be meeting at RAM, in the Woodfield Shopping Center (where I-90 and I-355/Rte 53) meet. You should be able to see it from 355/53. 7pm. Be there or be anti-social.
 5. I always liked the rubble/destroyed buildings in Panzer Elite. That was another good looking game. When a building was destroyed, the roof would collapse, but portions of the wall would remain standing. It just looked like what you'd imagine a destroyed building would look like.
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Juju: Yup, it is. But at level one most anything on the ground tends to get blurry up close. At least with my videocard (TNT2Ultra) Fytinghellfish, Peter Panzer and others, I'll mail you the rooftiles if you want. Just give me a holler!

keenedder@aol.com Thanks, Juju!!!
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Spanish Bombs: If Schaumburg is the designated place, I have noticed a place called RAM restaurant and Brewery from the highway. I have never been there, but it does have the advantage of being relatively easy to locate (just north of Woodfield Mall and within sight of the highway), plus I believe it has been there for a little while, and as a rule, microbreweries with crappy beer don't last long. Just an idea, I hope to make it wherever and whenever.

RAM sounds really familiar.. ok.. let's plan on that place at, what, 6pm? Not too early, not too late? It's right off of 355/Rte 53, right?
 8. Uber *BUMP* So is Sunday the 28th ok for everyone? I'll be in and around Schaumberg sometime soon so I'll be able to scout out a good location.
 9. Simply gorgeous. I can't wait to download 'em... and that red roof, if possible. Nice buildings, too, Tanksalot.. I'm gonna go download 'em now!
 10. Those StuGs look great!!!     Can I have them?
 11. OK - 6 PM Sunday the 28th? Any complaints? Anyone? Anyone? That seems to be the best for most parties involved... Now we need to pick a place. Any ideas? Anyone? Anyone?
 12. Time & Date: How about Friday the 26th, 7pm at destination of choice? Is that ok for most, if not all? Tabpub, would we be able to have it at your bar? Or should we meet somewhere more centralized - like Schaumberg (3 major highways converge at or near the town). The Hooters there? Somewhere else a bit more.. um.. "cozy" (read: fewer hot chicks thinking that we're weenie role-players )?
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Madmatt: hehehehehee...Why am I lauging? Oh me, no reason...Lets just say we got this particular matter well in hand in CMBB..Well indeed.. Madmatt

Matt is like an eight-year-old with a secret. Sheesh. Give us SOMETHING to go with here!
 14. If you're playing an operation that extends over more than one day (there are several of them out there at the various scenario websites), it would behoove you to make sure every enemy vehicle is burning. Abandoned vehicles can come back to haunt you the next day. I've started to make it a habit to ensure everything burns, even in scenarios. It's a good habit to get into, especially if you're in the CMMC.
 15. Great idea. The latest version of TacOps does this. Units are assigned a separate color, one player controls each color.
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by rune: Depending on the day, count me in. Saturdays are bad for the next 2 weeks, as I am refereeing soccer games. I tried this before but couldn't get enough interest. Hopefully we can do it this time Someone have a laptop to bring? Rune

Heh.. I was the only one that made it. Hi Rune! It was a lot of fun! This time, the more the merrier! [ 10-05-2001: Message edited by: fytinghellfish ]
 17. Sundays work very well for me, especially if the place we go to has HBO - for Band of Brothers, of course. And if it's on a Sunday after my payday, I'll buy the first round.
 18. I wonder if that Tiger and, maybe eventually, that explosion will be CMMOS compatible? I love that program!
 19. I'm out in DeKalb.. the boonies.. can make it anywhere at almost any time..
 20. Everyone else seems to be doing it, why not us? If you live in the Chicago-Milwaukee-Madison area, who would be interested in getting together for a beer or ten?
 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Pascal DI FOLCO: The problem with the 250/8 is NOT in the rulesets, it's in the German Vehicles.txt file: the BMPs for the 250/8 are missing ! Problem is fixed easily by adding the BMP list for the 250/8 - but here I don't have this list, will give details this evening !

Imagine my horror when, playing a QB game the other night, I was in the midst of a beautiful town, with verdant trees, quaint homes, gorgeous looking StuGs and PzIVs.. only to see a hideously camouflaged and LOW RES (!!!!) 250/8! I was sure that I'd updated those BMPs.. Sure enough, my gaming experience was ruined.. I cried.. I'd love to see an update for the 250/8 that works properly (unless I somehow screwed it up on my own, which is a very real possibility). And thanks to all you CMMOSers - you've created a great program!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
 22. I'd like to support the idea of an MG unit/heavy weapon crew having self-defense weaponry. I recently played a TCP game where my sole MG42 HMG had two (!!) jams. I add the exclamation because I rarely have jams, let alone more than one per game. During this time, my opponent rushed my MG team (a squad ran 100m in the open, and as the rest of my company was in the process of rolling up my opponent's flank, they were unable to support by fire except at long range). The MG team, 6 people, were quickly wiped out. I spent two years in the Army as a machinegunner. All the assistant gunners and ammo bearers I ever had were all armed with M-16s. I can't imagine that in WWII things were all that different - a six man team with only one weapon? Come on.. nobody in their right mind would go onto a battlefield without a personal weapon, no matter how much crap they had in their rucksack or ammo they carried. I think at least 5 pistols should be allowed for weapon crews, but I think M1 Garands/K98s would be more appropriate. After all, even with a jam, only the gunner himself and MAYBE the assistant gunner would work on fixing the jam. The ammo bearers just carry ammo around - the AG actually does the loading/supporting. I don't know if this has been addressed, and I've been on this board for quite some time (under various screen names) and can't specifically recall this topic having been or having not been brought up, and I can't seem to find the fellow with the CMBB FAQ link in his sig anywhere to look it up.
 23. It would have been more credible had you spelled "Vetern" right.
