  2. All you see is shooting and lobbing but you hear punches. ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  3. This is the kind of discussion that made the board so great during the pre-release of CM. Thanks BTS and everyone for keeping that feeling alive. ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  4. Sorry misread Lugnut pay no attention to this...just read the above. ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello [This message has been edited by Elvis (edited 02-13-2001).]
  5. L4...Please don't take this the wrong way but are you joking? The picture you put shows ONE squad being fired on by at least 10 units (that's how many targeting lines I counted). You didn't mention how long this exchange took place but I would be shocked if you squad lasted 20 seconds. There are several things from what you have written that I think you might misunderstand. 1) Foxholes are not bunkers or pillboxes or any other heavily protected terrain. Foxholes do provide very good cover but they are much more shallow than it sounds like you picture them to be. You do not need to fire your weapon from on top of you head to hit something in one. And if you did then how would you expect your men to be able to see to fire on them as effectively and you think they should have. 2)I saw no other target lines going TO the German squads so it does not look like they were getting any help supressing the enemy advance. With that in mind, you are talking about 12 men with what sounds like about 150 men attacking them (I counted at least 17 German units so 150 may be on the light side)..trying get as much protection as they can in the foxhole and taking pot shots to try to slow down the onslaught. If you think about it in real life terms it is suprising that they got any shots off let alone anything accurate that would seriously threaten the German advance. 3)As you mentioned. Don't take the targeting lines and size of the units for what they appear. From the range you are talking about it is not too much of a stretch to think that all the Germans could easily target you squad without hitting their own men (although I will admit he had SSSSOOOO any men that someone getting hit by friendly fire isn't a stretch either). I noticed one German squad (the closest on the right part of the screen) seemed to be reduced in size even if you weren't able to confirm it. 4) German SMG squads are DEADLY at close range. They will tear you up big time if they are close. And that many of them would kill ya dead real fast...actually now that I'm typing this I would be suprised if you squad lasted 10 seconds before it tried to run away. Which brings me to... 5) Your squad freaked. It went nuts when it saw all that mess running at it and firing machine guns. That's why it got up and ran. Not because it thought it would have a better chance running away. It knew if it didn't get out of there that 150 Germans would be right on top of it at any second and wanted out. I could go on and on. The bottem line is that the game does not avor human waves. As a matter of fact I have gotten torn apart trying to do human waves. If a position is well defended it is the worst thing you can try to do. In your case you were heavily attacked in a very weak position. If I had seen a whole bunch of red tageting lines from different posistions I might not have as clear of a picture but the fact is that you had 1 squad that was outnumbered at least 10 to 1 and if they lasted more than 15 seconds then they should all get medals for bravery(posthumously of course). ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  6. Lizardswine, you are correct. I have started to set up our game several times but get pulled away for TCP/IP. It will be coming to you shortly and after that the turns will flow much more quickly. I have noticed since TCP/IP was released that people are sending turns at a much slower pace. There are several people on this board who are extremely slow. I will not name names (Moriarty, joeski,Hiram and Germanboy) because I am above that. Piss I am wrong and I owe you guys turns than piss off. ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  7. Lorak, the Peng 700 point rematch game has been played. Please let the record show a draw Peng-draw Elvis-draw ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  8. TEST!?!?!?!?!?! YOU HAVE POKED AND PRODDED ME ENOUGH!!!!!! ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  9. Peng has lost to me a nasty little 700 point QB via TCP/IP. He claims that he would have won if had had more time (it was 20 turns). Well, if the Queen had balls she would be the King too. We have agreed to a rematch of the same basic setup but I would be attacking. I have expressed to the whinney little bastard that I would have had no problem with beating him if the situation was reversed. Bottom line Mr. Lorak: Peng: Loser Elvis : Winner (again) ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  10. You are right Mace..which only points out that my original statement was correct: Kitty is an idiot. ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  11. At least the trains will run on time. ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  12. Lizardchild is correct I do know what a boob I am. A babbling egocentric fool. I rarely take the time read every post since the last time I come in and should not be expected to waste the small amount of brainpower I have on remembering anything about posts from page 14 let alone notice that someone is referring to it. Please make all future taunts one syllable and requiring no use of my memory (most of my short term memory was revaged in the late 70s/early 80s. ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  13. You're right Lizardboy..she is an idiot isn't she? By the way did you send me a zip file of zipped files? ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  14. Kitty said: #2, #6, #7. K Elvis said: I don't undetstand what you are sayin.? ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  15. Yes it is true, Moriarty, you beat me in the Villagers nonsense but I have knocked you around in every other game we have played including our current game in which you are so afraid of me you send me files only once or twice a week. You, sir, are a yellow coward and a swine. You should be ashamed of yourself. ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  16. So that is why you have been avoiding games with me Mace!!! You're looking for an easy win like Hiram. You have heard that I embarrased the likes of Peng, Germanboy, Kitty, Moriarty and Goanna. And have a plus .500 win percentage with everyone else. It's all very clear to me now. ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  17. I'll probably catch some heat for this but the post made by Kitty was A LEAST as foul and offensive as MrHappy's. Yet I hear no one disparaging that. Go back and reread what she wrote if you don't believe me. I'm not saying MrHappy was right but I also believe that he is not the only one who needs to appologize to the thread and the board. Just my $2.35 ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  18. Will one of you jitbags please go to the chat room and try to kick my butt...I have been in there for close to an hour trying to get a game.
  19. When a satchel charge takes out a minefield the minefield no longer appears on the map. That's how you know where it is safe. ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  20. Warren, sorry...you are correct, being able to control the stratigic AI is different than the TacAI..My mistake for not reading your posts more carefully. ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  21. OK..several things. 1st, while not perfect the current AI is still the best I have played against. Iam not saying it couldn't be better but it is pretty damn good. Like many of you though I never lose to the AI anymore when I am defending. Which brings me to my second point, the ideas that Warren and Pham have both seem to concern attacking AI. The flaw in both ideas is that scenarios are designed for play against the AI or humans. Both ideas would screw up multiplayer play. Warrens idea can be partially implimented with the current version bydesigning a scenario in which you start the game with only FOs and receive the rest of the units as reinforcements. If your intent was to make the AI perform a more coordinated and aggresive attack then that won't do the trick. Specifiying routes of approach would also not work well if a scenario were played by two humans. Just my enlightened and better opinion (worth way more than 2 cents). ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  22. Wankers. ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  23. Yes. You can stop and start and continue to play a multiplayer game anyway you want.To play a PBEM as a TCP/IP game what you do is open the PBEM file then "save" the game. Close out of the PBEM file and go open the "saved" you will prompted for how you want to play it (TCP/IP, PBEM or Hotseat). Just continue from there. I think the best time to save a TCP/IP game is right after watching the movie..before either player plots anything. Doing that ensures that when the game is continued both players are at the point in the turn. And of course the best way to stop a TCP/IP game is by letting your opponant know that you are stopping and that you intend to finish the game at another time. Just getting out of the game without saying anything is bad form. ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  24. Peng you bastard. My mind is clouded from the beer and bourbon last night. At least Hiram had the decency to get drunk quitely. Speaking of Hiram...Lorak mark me down for another victory. Hiram surrendered in our PBEM game after we switched to Hotseat last night. He had plenty of infantry left but his tanks were destroyed so quickly and effiently that it was scary. There was a digital group photo taken of myself, Peng and Hiram last night when we were still pretty much sober. If you would like another picture for you photo albim, Lorak I will send it along to you. If not then I will post it in here. I would just hate it if you replaced the Peng picture on your site..it is a classic. ------------------ "When they finally put you in the ground..I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down" Elvis Costello
  25. Happy Birthday mensch ya hammerhead. Peng, you are of course wrong again. I have NEVER had an original thought and if I have it was certainly longer ago than when I was 3 1/2. I have recently received a surrender file from Germangirl. While I will accept, the win and pad my record some more, I feel that it was a silly game. Some noise that Berli made that was nearly unplayable. And my last point (this is inportant). To any participating in Operation "L", is it still going on? I post this here instead of privately because I think the time might be right to make it public. I know Joanna would like to be part of it but he only has a couple more days before he slithers back to the desert and it might be cool to let him join the fun before he goes. ------------------ What do we do with a terrible liar? Well, Great liars we send into the clergy. Good liars we groom for politics. Moderate liars we supply with sherrif's badges and guns, and the bad liars, well, we make them heroin whores. So what the hell do we do with the Terrible Liars? Well, it seems we turn them into physicists called "chrisl." Peng
