Hi Guys
Many thanks for the feedback - glad you are both enjoying it
Patboy - you did well mate in Pokhlebin - good effort! Nine panzers lost eh? I managed to pretty much have two companies chewed up in my attack...

Bäke's Winter Storm I
14th December 1942
No 2 in the CMBB Combat History series Bäke Battles: “Der Mensch” In The East”, this scenario follows on from the earlier CMBB scenario "Bäke's Prelude at Pokhlebin".
After the victory at Pokhlebin, General Raus is supremely confident in the superiority of his tank forces. In the steady rain of a brief thaw, 6th Panzer sent most of its mobile forces in a Kampfgruppe commanded by Panzer Regiment 11's Colonel Hünersdorff across the Aksay on the road toward Verkne Kumsky early on 14 December.
Encountering only light opposition at first, most of the Kampfgruppe had just arrived in Verkne Kumsky around 9am when the first Soviet combined tank and infantry attack struck the village from the north. As this attack was being repulsed, reports from both captured Soviets and the II Panzer battalion's light recon platoon of Pz IIs indicated that a large Soviet tank force was on the move southeast of Verkne Kumsky.
In order to "fully use his mobility and his full firepower to seek out the enemy in the open terrain", Col. Hünersdorff immediately ordered Major Dr. Bäke to take his reinforced II Battalion out of the village to find and destroy the reported Soviet tank force. Bäke used terrain cover to move his force some 4km south of Verkne Kumsky just to the west of the road and then turned them to the east. One of the most critical and intense tank battles in the history of the Eastern front is about to begin, and Major Bäke will be in the thick of it...
Map size: 2.2km x 4km
Total points combined: 13000
DESIGNERS' NOTES for "Bake's Winter Storm I"
To make this battle playable within CMBB parameters we have slightly reduced the dimension of the battlefield and size of forces.
Authors: George McEwan and Charlie Meconis
Date: 14/12/42
Region: South
Battle Type: Meeting Engagement
Game Length: 60+
Number of Flags: None
Time of Day: Midday
Ground Condition: Light snow
Temperature: Cold
Weather: Fog
Map Contours: Gentle
Playing The Scenario
Best played as H2H or as any side against AI with AI sticking to 'computer player uses scenario default'. If playing against the AI give it a combat experience bonus of at least +2.
If played as H2H more experienced player should play the German
You can playtest it at The Proving Grounds

BRILLIANT!!

Hi Guys!
Mark - The wee glitch was a rogue AI plan tile that had one AI group attempt to fit into one 8 x 8m square. I found and sorted it in version 7 (which was the version that went public). The latest version is uploaded over at CMMODS - it's now version 8 as:
jhdeerslayer picked up that I had not made OBJ ELK visible to the US player - version 8 makes it visible now. It's position is marked on the tac map so if you still take that area on the map you will still get the points.

Glad you are enjoying it, great to hearOriginally posted by jhdeerslayer:Started this one George and a nail biter as usual and what a awesome map and situation. Thanks for doing this.
But where is Obj Elk? Can't seem to find it on the actual map but have an idea from the Tactical one.
What version are you playing? It should be OK in version 7 (I think there was a wee glitch in an earlier version which I quickly changed).

Thanks for the feedback - Can't promise to 'improve' my spelling but hope you all enjoy playing this one out

It's big but more the map size. The units are actually rather manageable. Just the map allows players room for manouver
Look forward to hearing how you get on

Good for youOriginally posted by M1A1TankCommander:In America we spell "Armour" as "Armor", for your own info

It's no bug - you were playing Rock around the block 9sic) - yes? The other KOd vehicles are the destroyed taxis littering the town. caught me out at first as wellOriginally posted by CptWasp:Hi,
I noticed a bug since the introduction of the new "soldier" icon for humvees: in the final casualties count the number of "other vehicles" destroyed is totally wrong. In the last scenario I lost a single humvee, and the debriefing reported 41 of them lost!!!

It just takes ages to load. At least 15 minutes maybe more. Just fire it up then go and do something else for a while. Once it is loaded you should be able to save it (might take a couple of minutes) then it should load from the save game in a few minutes. I did put a warning about thisOriginally posted by tiger123:When I try to load this scenario the load stops at 50% and the program freezes. But the music continues.
I can leave the load "going" for ages and there is no advancement on the 50%
Please help.
THankyou.

I'm using:
Gurras Derevynya building, roofs and fence mods.
Undaunted's skies
MikeyD's terrain bases and winter road mod.
Deys winter mods of MikeyDs panzers
SPW are the blowtorch ones (based on Pat's mods I think).
Infantry are Astrofox's mods.
Think that's the main ones

Well done on your victory
I liked the nicely put together AAR. It's great to read how other people perceive the scenarios you've spent ages putting together, so glad you enjoyed it. Looks like you got a differant AI plan from Webwings one
There are several 'hidden agendas' in this scenario as well, so force preservation is key to success.
Nicely played

I take it you mean the set-up phase? You should be able to either place your units where you want them (within the coloured set-up zone) or give them orders. All depends on what the scenario designer had in mind. Have you tried the training missions that came with the game?
-
Götterdämerung in Silesia_H2H
There is a slight set-up zone error in this scenario. This means it is possible for the German side to jump the Soviets first turn. It was not intentional. My apologies to anyone who has just seen their T34s go up in smoke in a H2H on the opening turn. I feel your pain! I have updated the game file (now version 9) both on my own website and over at TSDII .
Thanks to Wolfgang Berger for bringing this to my attention.

Anyone played this using v1.07? Just wondering if it still plays out OK or whether I need to re-jig it.

Hi
No the files will not automatically unzip - you have to choose wher to unzip em and into what folders.
You have to put the operation .cmf file into your scenario folder. When you open CMBB you should find it under the operations section.
It it's a battle (scenario) .cme file you'll find it under scenarios.
The command maps do not load in game. Either open it to view using an appropriate viewer or print it out and use it as a handy reference.
Hope this helps.

Wow! Nicely crafted AAR
I've managed to get everyone through the village but it's tough going. Guess if when you know stuff makes it easier, although latter playing this I'd forgotten which AI plan did what and caught myself out with my own AI plans!
One thing I was conscious of was the time. I had thought I'd given enough to use real world tactics but enough that there is a sense of urgency, so hope I got the balance right. Guess people can always open this up and give emsels more time if need be.
Thanks again for the AAR - nice to see and makes doing these scenarios all the more worthwhile.
-
Yeah it does - although Charlie who is the German speaking part of the team suggests that like 'your the man' means much more.Originally posted by Oddball_E8:dude... wouldnt "der mensch" translate nicely into "the man"?
as in "you' the man" or something

in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin

Hi Aragorn
Hey very nice of you to say so
All kudos to Charlie who has done the research including translating Schieberts books to give us the detail. Shame his books have never made into English they are a treasure trove of detailed info about these actions including radio logs ect.
