  1. Your only chance against Tigers on an open steppe map is to attempt to swarm em from close in - so you attack from differant directions. That way you might get some flank/rear shots. Doing this you'll also lose a lot of T34s, especially if the other side is using good tactics i.e. someone like another Tiger or platoon of em is standing in overwatch.

Another tactic is to use some T34s as bait - have the Tiger target em then use another platoon of T34s which you have sneaked around to their flank to then engage. You might get lucky and get a M kill (immobilise the bugger) or a damage the gun. Again be prepared to lose some T34s.

Otherwise it's PAK fronts, mines and lure em on using the T34s so the Tigers hang emselves up on the defences.

  2. Hi Pzman

Many thanks. I take your point about a new system. At the moment and for a while I won't be in the market for any new rig, so I'll need to have my old rig just trundle along. I do plan though for next year to do a total upgrade but that's a year away and I'm keen on upping the size of CMSF maps but I need a card that can handle all that.

I'll check out costs for that card but from what I see that's my best short term option. Next year new rig!

    Thanks again for your help.

  3. I'm looking for some advice please smile.gif

I'm running an ASUS P4S800 Motherboard, with a Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.00GHz, 2Gb RAM and my graphics card is a BFG NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS 256Mb (AGP).

What I am after is to see whether there are any grpahics card updates worth doing that will run CMSF and CMx1. Ideally I am looking to not have to upgrade my MB and processor.

Any advice would be useful and appreciated.

Please keep in mind that the most enjoyable ones are not necessarily the toughest to win. :D

Thanks for all you do guys.

It's a tough one - I can kick my own butt think that's hard then someone comes along and wipes the board and says that was easy! I mind playing out "Just another day" thinking this is pretty tough and it looks like everyone who played it thought it was fun but straightforward. I think getting the balance right in any scenario CMx1 or CMx2 is always going to have an air of subjectivity about it. Still I'll keep your comments in mind - although I think my next one coming out might just creep into 'freakin hard' category - then again I'm sure someone will play it and say fun but straightforward! We'll see smile.gif

  5. He! He! The Highland charge - effective in it's day - not so effective charging artillery firing cannister and round shot...

As an aside Culloden is just up the road from me. They've been doing a lot of work on the battlefield site. If you are ever in this part of the world it's worth a visit. It's got an atmosphere that's very unique and powerful.

  6. Hi Wiggum

    Glad you enjoyed it.

The force size is about right - pretty small scale combat teams being tasked to a local tactical mission. If I mind the brief for the Syrian side does mention that their armoured force has been under attack - hence the slightly disrupted nature of the attack.

Like all these things the US airpower is immense but in a combat situation such as this one there is always the chance that you don't get the air support you need.

Also given that the area is still occupied by civvies, having air munitions dropped on civilian centres would be pretty bad press. Hence the ROE for the task force - you can't fire on houses unless you positively ID enemy troops therin and are taking fire.

So the air attacks have come earlier, off map and when the Syrian task force has made contact with the US TF then it's too danger close to have air support flying around engaging ground targets.

Unwinnable as Blue vs Red H2H - there is a challenge for someone smile.gif

  7. Excellent stuff. I'm really enjoying this Mark smile.gif

It's also pretty useful to see how you are fighting this. I'm impressed with how mutually supportive all your units are. I mist admit I do tend to sometimes err hash on and pay less attention. I'm learning though as in CMSF perhaps more so than in CMBB you get hammered if you don't use good tactics.

My apologies for the confusion! smile.gif

Mark has a slightly older version of the scenario, as he started his AAR before I uploaded a slightly revised version, which basically just corrected a couple of wee errors I had made. That aside the addition or omission of PL Oaktree will not make that much difference as to the end result smile.gif

Re PL Oaktree - It's pretty much just a control feature as per the brief. Otherwise Mark is spot on with his assessment of the briefing.

    Hope this helps.

  9. I've just uploaded a slightly tweaked version. I checked it out and it does look like like some of the Syrian set-ups although they worked pre 1.07 do not work now that the LOS/LOF issues were addressed in 1.07.

Basically the scenario is the same, just I re-positioned some Syrian. Not always where you might think they would be ;)

I've run it through quickly so it seems to be working again. Note: the new scenario does better achieve what I was after in that your recce units will have to do a better job of uncovering the Syrian assets. So if anything this version better achieves what I was after in this scenario. Still be keen to hear your feedback.

Thanks to all how posted about this.
