CMSF: Suggestions and Questions

Yes, but in the long run my liquor stock value will go up. Oh, and I think the great unwashed masses REALLY do not care if it is Korp or Korps, as indicated that in 2 years, this has been the first mention of it. Rune -
CMSF: Suggestions and Questions

Also remember folks, with different victory conditions, a fair fight has different meaning. Maybe as the Americans, I have to take and hold a building while as the Syrians, I have to destroy the American battalion HQ. Rune -

And for that reason alone I will not change it. Rune -

And you would be correct. Also remember that after weeks of bombing Iraq, when ground forces moved in, there was still Iraqi tanks and artillery. The Iraqis even hid tanks in garages at homes to protect them. A good reading is Thunder Run. Besides, Syrian Special Forces will give you a run for your money. Rune -
See, even the BBC gets it wrong sometimes... Afrika Korp Granted...that isn't saying much... Rune

Bah! You put a u in the word armor too. Rune

I'll see your South Africans, and raise you a kiwi Division. Rune

Guys, Break out of the mold and quit thinking in cmx1 victory conditions. The conditions are quite different and each side can have their own objectives as Steve has already stated. Rune

Major Bone... AI Planning Tools
rune replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Remember the AI plans are part of the scenario itself. It means you have to enter the scenario editor and change someone else's work. I would NOT do so without that author's permission if you want to release it. I know personally I would like to be asked if distributed, but if changed just for your own use, enjoy... Rune -
I do NOT have to run in compatibility mode. Like I said, just make sure you have the newest drivers. Rune
-
I have it running on Vista and it works as long as you have a newer video driver then what comes on the Vista DVD. Rune

Major Bone... AI Planning Tools
rune replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
I would make them seperate groups. The reason? Waypoints in the middle. Orders are carried out consecutively, so I would want the reinforcements to go to point a, dismount, then advance to point b, then assault point c. This way you can chose one route for plan a, and maybe for plan b, just go to point b and await in ambush. I tend NOT to mix the reinforcements with the starting positions. Rune -

Slowmotion: Can reinforcements be groups - Yes No, you can only belong to one group. However, your reinforcements can be split into multiple groups. Semantics, but I don't want anyone thinking a squad of infantry can belong to two groups. So then yes, the reinforcement would have 2 groups each with its own set or orders. Rune -
Major Bone... AI Planning Tools

Guys, The use of the AI planning tool is easy, yet powerful. I just created a test scenario where you have to rescue an ambushed column. For the Syrian's I created 2 plans. I will try to keep thing vague so that if included in the CD, you won't have spoilers. Plan 1 has units coming from the North to reinforce the ambush. An option for 1 group has it reinforceing, then assaulting the trapped units. Plan 2 has the units coming from the North moving into ambush position to catch the American relief column. Plan 3 has units coming from the west and south, with an all out assult on the trapped units then moving into another part of the town to trap the American relief column. Plan 4 has units coming from the west and south and moving directly to cut off the relief column. Each time the game is played, it could play out differently. Not only the plan, but within the plan what the units are going to do. I did NOT include phase lines for the Americans, as it is a rescue mission where they will have to decide between speed and caution. However, it other scenarios I have marked phase line where each platoon has an objective. As a scenario designer, this will be all up to you. Oh yeah, the guys love the scenario. Something about being evil.... Rune [ February 14, 2007, 07:22 AM: Message edited by: rune ] -
Different hardware, so can't really say. Also beta code has debug tools in it, and the final version always run faster. Rune
-
Redwolf is correct, and CMSF uses opengl which is running under vista, but not as fast as my xp computers. Rune
-
Not quite true. They will support up to 1.4, but not add on to it. I am playing opengl games now on Vista without any issues, other then it is not as fast as directx. Rune
-
LOL. Well, now you know some of the changes we requested. Not all but most. Add other things not mentioned yet, and scenario/campaign changes, and you get an idea of what we are working on. Massive changes to the campaigns are being tested now. I see they added my figures for gun and tank armour. MikeyD, you do indeed see Madmatt, Martin's, Steve's and my work. Not to mention tons of work from the Beta Testers. We are in the home stretch. We have more testing to do, as you see, it is worth it. Rune
-
It runs under Vista as long as you have the latest video drivers. It is one of the things I have been testing. Rune
-
track, Nope. The game will be released here and in Europe, as it is already is released in Russia, and the Russian version is being patched with a lot of the changes we requested. Beta testers are testing, coders are coding, and things are progressing. Rune
-
franz, The programmers are in Russia, the rest of us are in the US, Australia, Spain and Germany. Remember, we are just the publisher, 1C is the developer. In order to get in a magazine you have to book months in advance. You guys don't understand, but Battlefront is a whopping 7 people. I selected some people to help beta test, but they are volunteers, and I know this is going to be asked by someone, NO, I will ask you, do not ask me if you can beta test. Anyway, the gun was not jumped, it was planned on being out...but after we reviewed the game, we found bugs, bad translations, and wanted some changes in. 1C agreed, and has to code, it is then sent to us to test. We find more things and the cycle repeats. Why do you think games like Halo were advertised a full year before release? You go with what is on the schedule. When the release date nears, you have a choice, release it and have the users pay for being a beta tester, or delay the release untill you get things better. We will NEVER rush a game out, and is the reason we say it is done when it is done. OK I have spent enough time here. back to testing. Rune

No alienating customers would be with a buggy demo or one without changes that were put in. We got one chance at making a demo, as first impressions are important, more important then sending out crap because you have waited 4 months. We have had the title a whopping 6 months folks. It has been in development for years. Let us get it as close to right as possible. Will it have bugs? yep, never have seen a bug free game, but for each day we test, there are that many less to worry about. New features are going in that we thought were needed. Hang in there, we are in the home stretch. Rune
