  1. Dear Boo Boo may I take you away from your buddy and the picnic basket long enough to see what I posted. *Boots Costard* I did type that I wanted to see the challenge *Boots Costard* to see how the lad is doing. Unlike YOUR unwashed liege, I follow up with my *Boots Costard* Squires. I also asked if he actually *Boots Costard* managed to finish a game with the likes of you, as the old "lost email" trick has been used extensively with House Joebob. Must we remind you every time I post I AM a Senior Kaniggit. *Boots Costard* granted, House Joebob and its liege are the poster child for in-breeding in Ohio and Utah, but still, try to keep up. *Boots Costard* As for latch key, can I help it if my skills are required to create evil? Ask Elvis if he has stopped shaking yet. I didn't even use the entire German Army in a scenario YET. While you toil away in CMAK with its cartooney vehicles, I get to play with works of art made by all the guys. Maybe, just MAYBE i will grace you with a screenshot... once I am my computer running again. Oh, and *Boots Costard* how DID the lad fare against you? Rune
  2. A Truly Great Lady Has Died Pamela Murphy, widow of WWII hero and actor, Audie Murphy, died peacefully at her home on April 8, 2010. She was the widow of the most decorated WWII hero and actor, Audie Murphy, and established her own distinctive 35 year career working as a patient liaison at the Sepulveda Veterans Administration hospital, treating every veteran who visited the facility as if they were a VIP. Any soldier or Marine who came into the hospital got the same special treatment from her. She would walk the hallways with her clipboard in hand making sure her boys got to see the specialist they needed. If they didn't, watch out. Her boys weren't Medal of Honor recipients or movie stars like Audie, but that didn't matter to Pam. They had served their country. That was good enough for her. She never called a veteran by his first name. It was always "Mister." Respect came with the job. "Nobody could cut through VA red tape faster than Mrs. Murphy," said veteran Stephen Sherman, speaking for thousands of veterans she befriended over the years. "Many times I watched her march a veteran who had been waiting more than an hour right into the doctor's office. She was even reprimanded a few times, but it didn't matter to Mrs. Murphy. "Only her boys mattered. She was our angel." Audie Murphy died broke in a plane crash in 1971, after squandering million of dollars on gambling, bad investments, and yes, other women. "Even with the adultery and desertion at the end, he always remained my hero," Pam told me. She went from a comfortable ranch-style home in Van Nuys where she raised two sons to a small apartment - taking a clerk's job at the nearby VA to support herself and start paying off her faded movie star husband's debts. At first, no one knew who she was. Soon, though, word spread through the VA that the nice woman with the clipboard was Audie Murphy's widow. It was like saying General Patton had just walked in the front door. Men with tears in their eyes walked up to her and gave her a hug. "Thank you," they said, over and over. The first couple of years, I think the hugs were more for Audie's memory as a war hero. The last 30 years, they were for Pam. One year I asked her to be the focus of a Veteran's Day column for all the work she had done. Pam just shook her head no. "Honor them, not me," she said, pointing to a group of veterans down the hallway. "They're the ones who deserve it." The vets disagreed. Mrs. Murphy deserved the accolades, they said. Incredibly, in 2002, Pam's job was going to be eliminated in budget cuts. She was considered "excess staff." "I don't think helping cut down on veterans' complaints and showing them the respect they deserve, should be considered excess staff," she told me. Neither did the veterans. They went ballistic, holding a rally for her outside the VA gates. Pretty soon, word came down from the top of the VA. Pam Murphy was no longer considered "excess staff." She remained working full time at the VA until 2007 when she was 87. "The last time she was here was a couple of years ago for the conference we had for homeless veterans," said Becky James, coordinator of the VA's Veterans History Project. Pam wanted to see if there was anything she could do to help some more of her boys. Pam Murphy was 90 when she died last week. What a lady. ~Dennis McCarthy, Los Angeles Times on April 15, 2010~ Rune
  3. Costard, You weak kneed, australian want-a-be *Boot*. Have you actually managed to finish a game *Boot*, and even better yet, manage to beat anyone from House Joebob? *Boot* be a good lad, *Boot* and get a round for the lads, and no spitting in the drinks. *Boot* I want to see a challenge from you to Boo *Boot*, done with panache and wit and humour. Do well young lad, and I may put you up for full kaniggit. *Boot* Fail, and I will let Stuka have his way with you. *Boot* Rune
  4. So Seanachai, you are now teaching the small ones to hate baseball players from Pittsburg? Carry on, Carry on... Rune
  5. Going to hold off on the screenshot untill the trees are redone. Will wait for the new graphics then have the scenario ready to be shown. Rune
  6. Sorry, been too busy with creating a scenario. Will follow up today. Rune
  7. I just took a picture showing trees up to 2km away, will see if Steve will let me post it. Rune
  8. Going to disagree with Jomo. The t34/76 can indeed penetrate at up to about 200 meters. First, the Russian figures state 80% of shells penetrate, while american state 50%. Keeping that in mind, also remember the armor was 80mm thich on the side of the Jagdtiger. First German testing: The data available in soviet penetration tables are very different from western penetration tables. Soviets methods are based on 80% probability of penetration while US and german tables are based on 50% probability. Some values from penetration tables are taken from calculations rather than actual tests. Another thing worth mentioning is that the ability to penetrate armour increased as the war went on and the quality of the shells improved. Your best bet IMO is to read what the veterans have to say about killing distances. Here are some data for captured F 34 guns using ammunition that was produced in germany. This shell was slightly superior to the sovitet shells at most ranges. 82 mm@ 100m, 75 mm@ 500m, 67 mm@ 1000m, 60 mm@ 1500m, 54 mm @ 2000m The shell used was the Pzgr.39 rot which means modified panzergranate 39. It had a muzzle velocity of 625m/ second and a shell weight of 7.6 kg. The soviet BR 350B would be almost as powerful, particulary against well sloped armour. The quite uncommon BR 350P would be clearly superior at 500 metres or less, particulary against vertical (not sloped) armour but useless at long range. I have done some calculations on F34 tank guns and US M3 tank guns. The results indicate that the M3 would be superior against any armour that it ovematches (diameter of shell smaller than thickness of armour) thanks to better quality. But it would be less powerful when it is not overmatched because of lower ammount of Kinentic energy per square centimetre. The US M3 could penetrate 63mm RHA @ 914 metres using the M72 AP shot. The problem with your question about the ability to penetrate face hardened armour is that only the surface would be hardened. Therefore the thinner the plate the better the quality. Cheers So german sources agree the jagdtiger could be penetrated. Of course, we can look at the Russian sources: 76 mm F-34, ZIS-5BR-350A68060°-IP=86 CP=69IP=79 CP=63IP=70 CP=59IP=63 CP=50IP=52 CP=43-90°-IP=89 CP=80IP=84 CP=76IP=78 CP=70IP=73 CP=63IP=65 CP=58-BR-350B60°-IP=89 CP=74IP=82 CP=69IP=76 CP=62IP=71 CP=55IP=55 CP=48-90°-IP=94 CP=86IP=90 CP=81IP=84 CP=75IP=78 CP=68IP=69 CP=62-BR-350P60°-CP=92CP=87CP=77n/an/an/a90°-CP=102CP=98CP=92n/an/an/a76 mm F-34, ZIS-5BR-350A68060°-IP=86 CP=69IP=79 CP=63IP=70 CP=59IP=63 CP=50IP=52 CP=43-90°-IP=89 CP=80IP=84 CP=76IP=78 CP=70IP=73 CP=63IP=65 CP=58-BR-350B60°-IP=89 CP=74IP=82 CP=69IP=76 CP=62IP=71 CP=55IP=55 CP=48-90°-IP=94 CP=86IP=90 CP=81IP=84 CP=75IP=78 CP=68IP=69 CP=62-BR-350P60°-CP=92CP=87CP=77n/an/an/a90°-CP=102CP=98CP=92n/an/an/a76 mm F-34, ZIS-5 is the gun you are looking for: http://www.battlefield.ru/en/tank-armament/98-supplemental-information/355-specification-penetration-soviet-tank-guns.html Note that with the p type ammo, penetration is possible up to about 500 meters. So both the German and Russian sources agree. Your expectations, deputy, are not. First jagdtiger kill was to an american bazooka of all things. The jagdtiger should be used at range, not close in fighting. Against t34s moving fast, the lumbering jagdtiger having to pivot to fire would be disadvantaged in a close in knife fight. At 4000 meters, nothing can touch it and it did wreck havoc. Last, an example of what could happen even against Shermans: Otto Carius, a Tiger ace commanding 3 Jagdtigers of 512 battalion, reported an example of utter lack of training and morale that was unthinkable in German service up to that point in time: Facing half a dozen American AFVs from half a mile away, one of his Jagdtigers climbed a hill without lowering its gun first, missing the chance to fire before enemy could react. Upon getting repeatedly hit by 75 mm shells that could not penetrate the front armor of the Jagdtiger, the vehicle commander lost his nerve. Instead of backing down with his thick front armor forward, the Jagdtiger turned around on the hill exposing the weak side armor. The vehicle was penetrated and all 6 crew were lost as ammunition exploded Rune
  9. Will try one last time. Look here, particuarly note the amount of trenches per km of front. http://books.google.com/books?id=pX1AAvE64poC&pg=PA38&lpg=PA38&dq=kursk+trenchline&source=bl&ots=egbVRS4xKj&sig=t6tmBmY-M-sRYXUE-8_foG6EMDE&hl=en&ei=dcOjS5qNBI-6NtvypboI&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5&ved=0CBwQ6AEwBA#v=onepage&q=&f=false Note: per km of front 24 rifle trenches 16 at rifle trenches 9 mg trenches 8.7 artillery trenches 2.8 communications trenches This was per 1 KM of front. Rune
  10. instead of wikipedia, try something more on the battle: The Russian preparations Thanks to their "Lucy" spy network, which operated high ranking sources in Germany via Switzerland, the Russians didn't just expect the German attack, they knew all about it. They received the full details of the German plan, and the Russian military intelligence was able to verify most details in the front to ensure that the information was real, not disinformation. The Russians prepared eight defense lines one behind the other, and also positioned their entire strategic mobile reserve East of the Kursk salient, in case the Germans will penetrate thru all these defense lines, which indeed happened. The Russian plan was simple. First, they will let the Germans attack as planned right into their series of very dense defense lines, and after the German armor will be crushed there, the Russian army will start its strategic attack North and South of the Kursk salient and push the Germans West along a wide part of the front. Or from onwar: Soviet defensive preparations in the Kursk salient were unprecedented in scale. In addition to having a numerical superiority in all weapons categories and manpower available for their defensive battle, the Red Army laid over 400,000 mines and produced about 5,000 kilometers of trenches in the salient. Soviet defensive positions were up to 175 kilometers in depth. The German command was well aware of the awe inspiring Soviet defenses in the Kursk salient. Nonetheless, the northern attack was ordered to begin at 0330 as scheduled. Soviet spoiling fire began at 0220 and this was indicative of how the battle would play out. Everywhere, German forces encountered stiff resistance as they advanced. Nowhere did they achieve a breakthrough into the Soviet rear. On July 13th, after nine days of intensive fighting with inconclusive results, Hitler called off the attack. The Allied landings in Sicily on July 10th and the lack of a breakthrough both played a role in that decision. Soviet forces were already counterattacking on a broad front and made substantial territorial gains in the following months. I also highly recommend the excellent Glantz book on the battle of Kursk. it has an excellent oob but a few minor msitakes in the book itself. Hope this helps! Rune
  11. phil, not a mortar, think more of a grenade attached to a pistol [closer in theory] Rune
  12. Seanachai, you hapless lawn gnome. When have you seen OGSF do anything successfully, including type/speak where someone could understand him? Rune
  13. Costard, you worthless *boot* wanna be squire. Firstous. Joebob dodges your challenge, *boot* and yet you remain surprised? That everyone from the fackless House Shaw fail to arise *boot* to your challenge surprises you from that Viagra bunch? Secondous, Then you have the nerve to challenge you liege lord? *Boot* Fine, we will play my new test scenario *boot* you will play the part of OGSF. To be sporting I'll even reduce the German Division to a mere Tiger Schwere Panzer-Abteilung. *Boot* Let me know where you want your remains sent. What? You don't have CM:N [Name pending]? Well buck up lad *boot*, if i suddenly lose my mind, I'll invite you to the beta test. All that being said, I already made you a squire. Challenge any knight, and do some with skill, wit, and without breaking any of the sacred rules, and I'll consider making you a kagniggit. *boot* Rune
  14. Hmm just for that, and to make the rest of the Mutha beautiful thread feel good, I will feature Boo in the next scenario, in an unarmed mg team surrounded by German MG teams which are not unarmed, and with, of course, artillery support. Rune
  15. Oh, and for the fun of it, I put a division of German tanks versus a single Stuart tank, and named it OGSF. It died gloriously... Rune
  16. I have already made one of the most hated test scenarios. It actually caused a computer to crash. I am so proud of that. Hmm... I should make another Peng farm scenario while at it... Rune
  17. Yep, having that moment while destroying shermans while designing new evilness with Combat Mission:Normandy [name pending]. Glad you asked... Rune
  18. Seanachai, Boo, Berli, Joebob, et.all Still sleeping a lot, the doc says it is meds I am taking. Start cardiac rehab soon, then back to work. So, getting better slowly and a step at a time. As for Jr. Evil, he did the Peng thread proud when I was in the hospital. The little ****e comes into the room, 11:30 at night [wife works in the ER, is a nurse, so no one stops her] and mentions that "if you only had a heart" and making wizard of oz jokes. I still remember little Seanachai going into my bathroom, calling us in and askign what that was... and the amazed look when we tried to explain what soap was. Anyway, thanks for the sorta well wishes. I hope you all develop a foot fungus. Rune
  19. Boo, you idiot, I am Rune, and doing ok but tired after the angioplasty, that was my son Jr. Evil posting to let you know. He used my account. Rune
  20. Hi, Just letting all know that dad is doing ok, he had an angioplasty, and is doing well, but is very tired. He hopes to be back soon. Chris 'Jr. Evil' Orosz PS. Dad said to post alot of these
  21. Since I am undergoing surgery tomorrow for my achilles again, and since I will be on some good drugs for at least a week... I officially and without concern promote costard to the rank of squire. After all, I am sure it will piss Joebob off, and that is reason enough. So, costard [name spelled, but not bolded] *boot* I will expect you *boot* to keep up the good name of House Rune *boot* and to actually WIN a game *Boot* against anyone from House Shaw. Arise squire, *Boot* take the bucket and go to all the good kaniggits of the pool asking for donations. Well yes, there won't be many, good and pool are exclusive terms, but be a good lad and go forth. Watch out for Seanachai, if he has been drinking [and when has he not?] it may take hours for him to drain his bladder. I expect the lot of you to treat costard [spelled but not bolded] like the good new squire he is. Remember what goes on in the pool, stays in the pool. Peng, dang it, PENG, do me a favor and show the young lass...err...costard the right way of a challenge. Elvis, let Peng know he has a request from me. Looking forward to going under the knife tomorrow, it is less painful then reading anything from Boo. Rune
  22. Cabral23, It does impact the conversation. 8 months ago people were asking for no time limit. They wanted things like operations for CMSF, which has repeatablly said would NOT be done. You also ignored the fact that Steve agreed with me after the post. Second, ask anyone who has been there. The topic was discussed in depth with people serving in Iraq about this very topic, and they thought it was an issue. Read the book Thunder Run, one of the bravest acts I have read is supply trucks filled with ammo making a run to resupply a unit, being fired upon almost the entire trip. Now read what Steve wrote, he may code an extend time, but it will NOT change the scenario results. If the results ended at 4 hours, and you play 6, too bad, the results are based on 4 hours. So guess what, it wasn't easy to code a full unlimited time with scenario results changing. THAT is what was asked and what I said could not be done. Yeah the sig went to my head [rolls eyes]. Steve has already said there are bug fixes only on CMSF that coding changes will have to wait. So, given that coding is directed at CM:N, bug fixes only for CMSF at this point [with maybe a couple surprises], expecting a code change because maybe it will impact in 2 years is not realistic. Code for CM:N and hope those changes get implemented into CMSF2. [And I totally expect they will, since the climate will be both temperate and other simularities]. Now if you will excuse me, I have to go play matrix-style with Mikey's game. Rune
