  1. So in that case can we mod the skins and have the contact automatically taken care of? So the internal skin would be assigned a class such as PzIV and the spalling etc would follow that model? That would be interesting. I thought FPS's (which this is similar to) used bounding boxes to say where they edge of the object was wrt the game engine? If so, then the hit box be would independant of the percieved size and the object could have size toggles.
  2. Playing Panzer Command really made me appreciate the unit size command. It's very possible to lose units, especially infantry in trees etc. So, can the size be toggled. Related, can trees etc visibility be adjusted on the fly?
  3. I dunno, this is a bit of a showstoper for me. If armor penetrations don't act like they should, what's the point. I think (hope) that thinks were dumbed down by order of ther games last publisher and that now they will be realistic. If so, it's must buy. If not; forget it.
  4. Any word on this? And can someone confirm whether the engagement ranges for armor has been *reduced* to 500m or *averages* 500m? I think IRL it was about 350m in the ETO but I've no data on what it what for the Eastern Front.

  13. Ahh, I didn't see this before I posted in the other thread. No, we hate pirates because we like the guys who programmed the game. I paid...I can't quite remember, ~£20 for CMBB > 3 years ago, and similar for AK. I'm still playing both. So these games are an absolute bargain compared to any other purchased form of entertainment and they were only made because the guys who made them love wargames. So go buy them so they can stick around and write more of them. You can find them now for extremely cheap.

Mr Daniel, if you think you're getting a negative reaction from people on this forum, it's because you're email and AIM is "Herr_Fuhrer8", which makes people think you may be a nazi or have admiration for Hitler etc. Is this true or not? You see, people who come to this board tend to know enough about history to know nazis were stupid, brutal savages who were blinded enough by their own mindset to make rudimentary errors in military strategy. I think it's the last point that really bites. Of course, you could just be being ironic or whatever, in which case it's ill-advised on a medium where such things are hard to transmit.

  18. The games play out very differently, not because of any engine differences but because of the unit types and tactics for their use. The German player can't rely on 80mm front StuG's to dominate the armour war or be able to dodge un-responsive arty, however the infantry can now beat Allied infantry in a close in assault. It's a better, more balanced game. But it does lack some of the epic sweep of the Eastern front.
  19. I think the random re-enforcement idea sounds good. It would simulate higher order command SNAFU's. You might give the defenders some mines as well.
  20. I imagine 3D models etc now have COTS implementations, rather than Charles having to write one. So that wouldn't be the bottleneck, you could farm them out to whoever you wanted (Sorry whoever in BFC currently does it). It's all about Charles AFAICT. What in a modern timeframe would break a game that wouldn't in WWII? IR equipment? Reactive armor? I guess it could happen but I'm kind of talking myself out of it.
  21. You know, I've been thinking the same thing. The last I remember Matt saying was Charles had a problem he needed to solve. I'm just hoping it's not something like PBEM. TBH, if SF was dropped in favour of a WWII theme I'd be very happy about it. Even if it meant waiting another year for anything with the CMx2 engine but brought WWII forward 6 months. I'll probably still but SF but it doesn't really enthuse me.
  22. Use infantry to hold ground. Win the infantry war with your tanks. Use ATG's to win the armor war. Use arty to kill ATG's. Kill infantry from defilade with you tanks, which either wins or brings out the kitties, as he can't do the same due to not being able to afford the same number of tanks as you. Kill them with your AFV's and gun line. If you get sick of losing to Kitties, play British and buy a couple of Churchill XI's backed by some Achillies. The Churchills will bounce StuG and PZIV's all day, meaning your opponent has to bring out his big guns, which you kill with the Achillies. Takes some handling to ensure overwatch at all times but works well. If you want to play a terrible trick buy some light flak guns. I've just had a 32pt light flak mobility kill, then gun kill and force abandonment of 2 Tigers. Doesn't seem fair somehow.
  23. TBH mate, it's a GREAT battle, but against someone else. As it's at night you get most of the joy trying to guess what your opponent's doing. Seriously: don't waste it on the AI.
