  1. The previous replies summed it up pretty well and are mostly correct (or to be more precise, "are entirely correct about Normandy and NATO, but not quite for Afghanistan").

At this point we're unsure what printed materials "Afghanistan" will have, or how it will be packaged. Most likely DVD case, but we're unsure about the expense to print the full manual - or even any manual, to be honest. The interface resembles CMSF very much, so even though there are a TON of new weapons and units and even a bunch of new features, together with the fact that we're unsure about the appeal of the title as a whole outside of Russia, we're not sure yet what to do.

The problem with printing is that it becomes excessively expensive if you cannot do certain minimum runs. This is especially true for multi-page booklets. The cost quickly jumps to $10 or more unless you can do thousands. And what many people forget is that there are additional costs associated with it, too, that go beyond just the printing - such as warehousing, handling and transportation. We're unsure if we're going to sell thousands of Afghanistan games outside of Russia, so most likely it will be either a very small basic manual, or perhaps a DVD amaray case with the manual entirely on PDF. We'll announce this when the title goes on pre-order.

  2. RevJack, we respond within hours to all helpdesk inquiries. You need to log into the helpdesk with the same email that you used to submit your ticket. Do you even see your own ticket? If you can't see anything at the helpdesk, not even your own ticket, then either it's not in the system, or you are not logged in with the same email/account you used to submit it.

  3. The Battlefront system beats the heck out of the old copy protection systems (what's the first letter on page 2, etc)!

Wonder if it's the different versions of Windows?

Yes, I agree. It not only beats the old game manual based systems, but also a lot of DRMs that are out there today. Some of them are outright bad, some are "just" intrusive, and some are useless. The system eLicense is using with its mobile license concept, unlimited activations, relicensing and unlicensing, and the transparent no-backdoor-or-calling-home approach combines a lot of good aspects about how a DRM should be.

The problem most people are having is related to how Windows Vista and 7 introduced additional security features, which, in itself, are well intended. But together with poor documentation, over-secured anti-virus and internet security packages, it produces an environment where your PC may be blocking a lot of things you have no idea about, and actually don't want. This doesn't apply to eLicense alone, but to many other programs out there (even if you don't know it).

  4. I have read your announcements where you seem to suggest that no EMails went out (from the hacker) but this would seem to prove otherwise

You must have misunderstood the announcements then, because the opposite is true - emails (some containing a virus attachment) have been indeed sent out, and you should delete the message right away.

  5. You are a pretty good diplomat, Moon. Every one wants to know when the Repository will be back and you tell us that there will be no change in the interface.

    As, I wrote earlier, you are letting open all the guess and weird speculations about the future date of re opening, if there should be one, after all, of the Repository;

It would have been easier to write "No comment" that is what we use in diplomaticy

    Cheers

Rather have a Repository with a bad interface than no one at all

There will be no announcements by us when the Repository will be back up at all. It will simply be there at some point, and that's it. I hope that's a clear enough undiplomatic statement. :)

  6. This has nothing to do with being shaken, just with being thorough.

But you're right, the Repository is not a very high priority, either. It's not like it's the only place to swap mods out there. In fact, I seem to remember how many people were against the Repository in the first place, so it's interesting to see how it's being taken for granted now after being in existence for just over a year.

If no one can do it anymore, no more will be able to downloads enjoyable scenarios and that will be the beginning of the end of the great family of CMSF.

Heh, the Reposity will be back online sooner or later. It's far from an "end of the world" scenario just because it's been down for a few weeks.

  7. Not sure where you came up with that. Actually the only thing needed is to make sure that after you install the game, you launch it with full admin rights for the first time. This will take care of registering the eLicense system properly UNLESS you have additional security programs which mess with what Run as admin is supposed to do (a bunch of internet security and AV packages unfortunately do this without proper documentation). But in 99% of all cases, the 'Run as admin" setting is all that is needed.

In fact, for Kursk and newer games, even that isn't required in many cases, because on properly configured systems, the registration is now correctly done during the installation already.

As for your comment about the packaging, I don't know what you mean. If you buy the game from us, you get a retail-style professional DVD box with printed manual and DVD.

TOW will be available on Steam at some point. Personally, I would always opt against buying from Big Brother, but if that's your choice, so be it.

  8. Martin, the whole point is that I don't get any "text" at all to be saved, so I can't copy/paste to any doc or txt document, I know the process I'm just saying that with SC GC I'm not getting that huge amount of letters numbers to be saved and then be taken to another pc with internet access and continue with the process, that I got with the previous SC games. It just hangs up, I can post a screenshot of the problem later when I get off from work, but it won't add much info.

To me offline activation is broken, don't know why, I tried in two different pc with same results. Maybe you should try activating the game offline, if it works to you then I have nothing else to say but if not you then we have a bug to fix.

As you said pc do weird things from time to time, and I'm running the game in my new pc, just didn't want to bring the old one home to activate online the second license.

    Again thanks for your time.

You do not have to press the Save License Request to File button to get the license request text. The license request is already printed in the window area right above that button. Click in there, then do the Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C routine, then click on the Step 2 button. You do not need to click on Step 1 at all in that case, so whatever is causing the hangup won't even get triggered.

Are you launching the game with full admin rights? If you answered that question already somewhere above, then sorry if I missed it.

  9. I am not sure what you mean with "couldn't generate the offlicense file". There is nothing on our end which would prevent that, since it's essentially just a text file. However, make sure that you are launching the game with full administrator privileges (Right click-> Properties -> Run as admin). This is required for the first launch and while it normally shouldn't prevent the offline license generation, who knows... PCs these days have all sorts of insane overprotection that may prevent anything...

For further support, I would suggest to use the www.battlefront.com/helpdesk by the way.

  10. There are no known problems in activating offline. It's just important to follow the steps precisely. Most of the issues people have from time to time is with e.g. not copying the license request correctly. For example, you generate the license request file ON THE PC YOU WANT TO PLAY. When you say:

Thing is I couldn't generate the file to activate the game back home.

    then this doesn't sound right.

  11. Hi MaxPayne, here is a copy of the reply from the helpdesk:

    Hi!

The license key you are using is the original Paradox key. You need to use the eLicense key that you receive when you purchase the Upgrade in order to activate your copy of the game. That key is emailed to you. If you did not receive the email, then it was spam-blocked. Please go to www.battlefront.com/store and log in. Click on "My Account" from the top menu, and under "Orders" you will find your key. Use that key to activate your game now after installing the Upgrade. You won't need the Paradox key ever again, since you now have the original Battlefront base game version 1.21.

  12. The Retail Upgrade is not the same as the v1.21 patch! That Knowledgebase article only applies to the patch, not the Upgrade. The Upgrade does not provide any support for modules, hence it will not prompt you which components you want to update. So that's normal.

Please submit a support ticket at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk and include your key. We can check it to see if e.g. you have a simple typo when enteringe the key (that would throw an error 501 as well) and further help you troubleshoot the issue.

  13. This is not related to Vista as such. On some XP systems, the eLicense Control is not running, either.

It is not necessary for anything, really, because "managing licenses" is possible with the shortcuts. No "uninstalling" is needed... there are separate "unlicense" links if all you want to do is release your key.

Unlicensing and uninstalling are two entirely different things.

  14. Sorry to hear that, videoment. Patches for localized versions are handled by each distribution partner, we can only give them what they need to create the patch, but not make one ourselves. If you have British forces, then you have v1.20 already. I am pretty sure that Snowball will release the NATO module, which will provide the latest version automatically as well.

If you want to purchase the original Battlefront base game, I could offer you a discount for that as well. Probably not exactly what you want to hear, but it's the only thing we can do. If you're interested, submit a support ticket at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk please.

  15. Ok it's been another week, can BF disclose any info about the delay? Are you guys checking all the files for a virus that hacker left behind or something?

No. The Repository requires major recoding to work on the new server, and securely at that. We have also taken the opportunity to upgrade the codebase, opening the road for some additions and modifications later on. And lastly, other important security audits had to be made first before we can bring the Repository back up.
