2 questions (or wishes) for CM-BS

Hello all, I just finished the tutorial campaign. This game truely reminds me of good old close combat series, and more advanced than that. Thank you for this fantastic game, and just have a couple of questions here.

 

1) Any plan for MLRS?

I hope this game have a plan to introduce bm27, bm30, and m270, tos-1a, or at least old ones like bm21 or bm24 in near future. Even now, you can watch lots of mlrs video from youtuve or liveleak regarding Ukraine conflict, since both sides heavily rely on rocket artilleries. Mlrs is the major supporting toy for Soviet / Russian (and Ukraine) army, and it has been for a long time. US army is also equipped with devastating rocket fire power as well. If it is not planned, is that because of game balancing or scale problem?

 

2) Any plan to introduce spec-ops group?

I absolutely know that their objectives and targets are far, far differnent from what conventional army groups do, but it would be also possible to conduct a joint operations (depending on scenarios). Delta, Navy Seals, Spetz, and etc... (I might miss those guyz already introduced in the game, but I couldn't find them. ) In addition, I can't find any Ranger (or Airbornes) / VDV units in the game (or am I missing again?). Those battlegroups are each side's the most famous first-responders, as we already saw from Grenada and Georgia. Any rooms for those guys, too?

The troops your are describing are often found in later modules for CMBS.  I can't tell you for certain they will be in there, but if you look at Battlefront's progression of adding additional troops in CMBN and even further back you'll see that is often the case.

Both of these have been discussed multiple times.

1) it's mostly a scale thing, although there are some gameplay reasons. US MLRS is a division level asset, used for strategic targets (staging areas, supply depots, C3I centers, columns on the move) and not for tactical levels like you see in game. There's also the gamplay reason of being able to kill everything in 1/4 of a map...

2) Again, the combat mission series focuses on regular army units squaring off at the Company-Batallion level scale. That's how they've historically done it. Small SF teams don't really fit in to this, especially on the front lines of a major skirmish. Behind the lines action isn't really the focus and the game is set up to reflect that. Elite Light Infantry is a different matter (Rangers/VDV) as they perform similar missions as their regular cousins, just harder.

Ok, if the game's scale and system are not allowing rockets, then there would be no way.

 

But still, this gives me a bit sadness, because IMO the firepower is very important point in modern warfare. If this game's goal is 'more close to realistic', than simulating modern firepowers with its authenticity and with proper game balance will be unltimate homework. One cannot 'realistically simulate' modern warfare without firepower, firepower, and more firepower. (Specially when someone talks about Russian army.)

 

And at least, and hopefully, I could expect to see the VDVs, Rangers and Airbornes sometime later. That would be awesome.

Why not nuclear weapons then...or fuel-air explosives.   The firepower is there, but not at the front line tactical level.  MLRS would be used as either pre-bombardment ahead of the battle line or hitting behind the lines.  

 

In fact this was discussed here on this board to death today and yesterday.

I'd like to see special forces as team/squad sized elements.  There's been some really good tiny scenarios that revolve around platoons or smaller elements, and folks seem to like them plenty.  Also as I suggested in a different thread, they'd be a natural thing to see working with militia/unconventional forces on both sides in terms of arranging fire support, or just general purpose "advising."

 

It's a pretty low budget inclusion (some changes to the basic infantry models and you're done!), and would be the sort of thing to toss in with the promised militia/unconventional warfare module

I have tried to recreate missions from the game "Sniper Elite" in Red Thunder with disastrous results. One man army style missions always end with the one man dead and the mission failed. While the specific OOB's for the special forces might not be present in the game, it is possible to create a special forces type battle in the editor. Select as small of a formation as you can and then remove everything but the HQ unit.  Then add in the specialist teams you want for your battle.  If you are hoping for a hit an run mission on a compound, add a breach team and couple of scout teams. Use elite, fanatic, +2 leadership troops and you will come close to a special forces unit. If the enemy is set to green or conscript, poor motivation and -2 leadership, your special forces guys will perform even better. A compound raid with small hand full of elite soldiers against 30 or 40 conscripts can be a real challenge.   Try and make one in the editor and see for yourself if you think it works.
