  1. Seq, well, it depends... E.g. at this moment the Northern Italy, where I live, which is surely more like a Northern European country, as far as we're talking about landscapes, is sunny, and South Italy is under the snow, and usually that part of this Country is more like Greece, or even North Africa. The centre of Italy is quite peculiar, given the fact you're projected in the middle of the Med Sea, but is quite impervious: here the 10th US Mountain Division fought very harsh battles... Maybe I'll make a scenario, or at least a good Map to give you an idea of the landscape: actually I never saw narrow valleys with a small river, and a road carved out of the steep mountain, running along it, with stone low walls on the side of the precipice, and a bridge, with some village with up going small lanes that separate the stone houses... As for AK, I've played a few of the Italian scenarios, and mainly those fought on the flat lands north of Firenze and Bologna, and they were quite realistic, as far as I know. Sicily should be more like Tunisia, with Mountains and rocky ground, and some green as well. Well, just consider Naples is on the same long as NY City.
  2. hehehe NUB, and no matter if he was shaved as a HariKrishna! BTW, when you see original pictures of WWII soldiers, the only shaved ones were the US paratroopers' wearing the Mohawk cut, or poor farmers' boys conscripted in the Red Army: nazi's never had shaved heads, but displayed their blond arian cut...
  3. DavidI, why not having a 'script' of a sort to update all terrain bmps and battles accordingly to the calendar on your computer? As soon as you switch it on, CM starts installing all of the above, and you can hear cannonballs fly and sgts yelling orders, etc... Hem, wouldn't be simpler if BF listen to US and make a whole WWII OpenGL game, on all fronts, from the Polish Cavalry to the Me262 fighter-bomber: I mean fix an acceptable game engine (which I deem they've already got), fix a graphic engine (OGL I beleve is here to stay), publish the game we may buy it, and finally let us start making MODS! But sure enough I also want the Royal Marines with bycicles!
  4. Then I believe it was a better and less expensive choice to have an half squad of paratroopers Run or Assault each beast, jumping on it as in Private Ryan, of course armed with the 'sticky bombs', but only if they had been wearing soccers... If you ask me, that part of the movie was quite as the 'assault on fort Apache', and not 'the Alamo', and what about 'Steamboat Willie'? Sure enough he was there grinning and shooting at the heart of Cpt.Miller, a +3 ASL cardboard... but I liked the movie anyway!
  5. ...the only trouble is that I have to re-install all these mods if I want to fight a summer battle!
  6. Hey you GUYS are wonderful: I finally installed Juju, RHZ, Ed, Mikey, Gurra and Gautrek mods, beside all the others', and now I like those foggy rainy fall trees... Excellent job!
  7. Thanks for the hint Kingfish! I'll check that... And thanks for the email. I still have to have a look at your reconstruction... Since I'm on a Mac I had to rebuild the map 'by hand' square by square... and I was lucky everything fell exactly as it should, since the editor is fun but also a very basic tool, with no 'Undos'... Maybe now someone will give me the 'coupe de grace' writing about that beautiful editor/convertor for the Mac, everyone uses since 1989... 8) [ December 15, 2005, 08:28 AM: Message edited by: Gen Von Television ]
  8. Yes thank you all for the answers: actually I've found an All or Nothing scenario almost perfect, although I don't remember who made the conversion, but was on a message here on the forum, but since I've already finished the map, which I deem exact almost to the 'square' to the original one, I'm now going ahead testing the battle with the current forces available (NO Crocodile, NO Cromwells, No Comets!), and yes John, thank you, actually I just contrubuted to bring the thread about fall trees to the top...
  9. On CM MODS Database I wasn't able to find the RHZ mods: maybe are there listed under COMMOS? But anyway I understand in the end you DON'T have a separate numbered set for the Fall Trees, and you have to replace summer/winter trees and play a fall season scenario ONLY, or replace the files again...?
  10. Hem, a couple of years later, I stumbled on this short message about 'All or Nothing' Scenario! Actually I have just reproduced the whole map: I like it! But the trouble is AK DOESN'T HAVE fall trees!!! As if Italy is an African country, and there is no Autumn... Now I'm trying to find out if there is a possible way to introduce coloured trees without having to replace them each time... I still have to check and see the availability and balance of forces...
  11. Quite ODD Battlefront has not included Autumn options for AK: as if in Italy trees are always green, or all of a sudden plain bare... Hey, here in Italy we still have the fall season, as in the rest of Europe too...
  12. Just a rant depicting on the whole, I fear, the not-microsort community: if a Mac version is under consideration, and since CMBB ONLY run under the NATIVE calssic 9.x Mac OS, and since this has already disappeared from the recent machines from Apple, except in the case of hard-core CM players like me, who still owns obsolete Macs just to be able to play this game, and who will surely buy an expansion of this type, should I expect I will NEVER see this game on my Mac? TIA for the STRAIGHT answer!
  13. LOL. I certainly hope so; would hate to hinder sales in Euroland because of those pesky swastikas. </font>
  14. I second that, and that, and that too!!! From my point of view, I can only subscribe to what had already been wrote by Zemke too...
  15. Hi Steve, at least the good news is you haven't wrote: 'no mac version has been as yet thought of'! BTW will the graphic engine be Open GL, if you can tell us?
  16. MD, I just want to tell you: I second THAT, whatever you mean by 'THAT'! and I would also add 'WE' all support your view!
  17. Now, seriously, what about Patton's 3rd Army campaign? It includes the 101st after Bastogne or in-betwix as well: and you can have a scenario on the conquest of Goering wines' cellar in the eagle nest too; the screamin' eagles have to beat in the race French, US Army and any allied-you-think-of forces, and survive the alchoolic flood...
  18. Yeah, exactly!!! And also you're still not sure about their identity; there should also be a 'skill' of stealth identity, so to say: e.g. the Germans Brandeburg squad in Bastogne, etc. The problem still is: would they still be able to implement this feature too?
  19. First of all, I've to apologise for starting a further topic about 'what we all would like to get' in the new and super-exciting CMX2, but I came back too late to this forum and the main topic from Madmatt had already been sealed off... I still have to read it all, but even if this subject had already been mentioned, or even if CMx2 is already under beta testing, and surely I hope for Mac OsX too, I would bring to the attention of the developers a peculiar aspect of our great game! I don't know if it's a feasable feature to introduce in the mechanics of the game, but take the case of hidden units: of course they are for certain enemies, so you can just blast away at areas where you see those 'target' marks: expecially in night scenarios, it would be great to be able to have a more uncertain state about your own units as well: suppose e.g. you're expecting some reinforcements, but they may be delayed or coming in from an altogether different direction... So there should be a limited amount of knowledge about your own units as well: I think only the one deployed from start should be known, or there should be a mechanic to simulate and parallel to the line of command, without bringing too much complexity to the playability though. Just another element of confusion! Suppose the enemy has captured tanks to pass your strong points, and at the same time you're expecting reinforcements from the same direction; or have a scenario where surprise is the main factor, alike the night airport raids in North Africa by the SAS and LRDG patrols... Boys, I can't wait to see the CMx2 in action! All the Best
  20. Last night I finished playing as German this excellent scenario... I got a Major victory (75%-25%): my big mistake was just in the last turn, when I raced my full platoon of MkIV to the second bridge; they were all blown sky high by those damned 3 T 34-43 lurking in the dark, otherwise I think I was able to get a total victory: up to that moment I've lost only one abandoned HT and blown 6 T 34... Anyway I think the AI played well as Soviet, better still than the Germans: in my previous play the Nazis were just going in one direction, toward the blown bridge, but this may be because I cought them in their starting area, eliminating many vehicles and tanks there, without a single loss of my T34... 21. Hello All! I've just played this excellent scenario from the Kursk pack available at http://bootsandtracks.com/ScenarioDetail.php?ScenarioID=82 I played it as Soviet against AI, and I was able to gain a Total Victory... well, I knew the story, and I've read the book! I switched my T34s in a wide cross country trip in the night, and I was able to catch the Fascist pigs unaware, kicking their ass... But now I'm planning to become a German Commander and try my luck: what this scenario's missing, from what I read, is a captured T34 at the head of the column, and what the CM games lack in this instance, is the possibility to deal with UNKNOWN units as YOUR OWN. What I mean, is that ANY unknown unit, heard or seen, is automatically the ENEMY... Yes, I presume it would be impossible with the game mechanics to deal with units as unknown until contact is made, no matter which side are these on; this would also means the possibility of so called friendly fire, which at the moment can happen only 'thanks' to the 'fly boys'... The point is that in history thisa battle was won by the Germans because they were able to get real close to the Birdge before being identified as foes by the Soviets... Any advice, comment, or whatever is welcomed... TIA Grunt PS: I know, this may very well spin-off in a new thread as well. In case someone would like to expand, I will surely follow.
  22. Drag & Drop the image document exactly where the cursor is, and Lo!, the image will be framed below the text, or in the middle, if you choose so. Save the document and it should include the pics (I'm not sure you had to convert them in JPEG at first instance, but since you had to resize and compact it, then it's best to). Try to save the rich text document. Move to another location the original image. Open again the document, and if the image appear all right, then it means it has been embedded in the documents, and it should work with other editor/reader of the same standard, i.e. rich text. All the Best
  23. Hemm, this IS an EMPTY post! [ December 19, 2005, 06:58 AM: Message edited by: Gen Von Television ]
  24. Hello Tom, as a graphic and designer myself, I'll pick up the thread from the 'Courier' notation: I appreciate the idea, but then it should have been implemented in the page format and on the 'backdrop decorations' as well, possibly adding more of the 'field' atmosphere... I enjoy the reading: I'm very fond about the first hand experiences in any times' history. It really gives you a more understandable perspective on the bigger picture. Furthermore, expecially when war is involved, it usually unveils the real misery that war is, and ultimately pours a light on higher human values, like pity, brotherhood, sameness of feelings, in spite of the different uniforms and theaters... Regarding this last thought, I found a bit 'out of tone' as you pick up the recollections of someone, sometime talking about someone else' without let the reader get familiar with the characters... But this is surely only a slight notation I make... Do you know there are quite a few sites on the web from veterans (like 'Wild' Bill Guarnere) or other sites that are working collecting the testimonials of survivors (like the Drop Zone) that may be a real source of interest in this respect, the personal perspective of the battlefields... Good Job. Thanks. Diego [ April 21, 2005, 07:54 AM: Message edited by: Gen Von Television ]
  25. Just to 'cool down' this flaming thread... Let me speak out as an old Amiga's hand: I've seen all this before! I mean, here he comes, the Billy-spammer, with his junky mind, selling diamonds on the streets: will you buy it? I wouldn't ever surrender! Now I run Unix and of course the brilliant OS X from a genius of our times, who has done a REAL JOBS  , and surely enough I prey Battlefront wouldn't sign the infamous NDA selling their soul to the microsort, alike the atomic's children have done in a close combat encounter... Yeah, I would love Battlefront to grow an OpenGL re-start of all our games: surely I will even buy some upgraded hardware to play with them all over again, and YES, I'm playing all episodes on my macs (G3, G4, all with overprized ATI mac edition pci 32 MB video card ) and read all the books, and ride my byke on many mountain passes... Incoherently Yours Gen Von Television aka Grunt
