  1. The difference is is that CMAK and CMBB aren't failures like Vista vs XP is. All you have to do is go read across the web at the many reviews and posts about Vista vs XP. Compatibility issues, stability issues etc. etc. These are not issues between CMBB vs CMAK thus that is irrelevent to the conversation. The conversation is about those with Vista wanting Battlefront to support THEM when it's such a small community of people who are even running Vista atm. The majority of users are still running XP, Vista just didn't meet the consumer needs and requirements and became more of a hassle running older games and other programs than it was worth in the extra memory usage abilities. Bill Gates has abandoned Vista more or less for Windows 7 which supposedly will offer more of what the masses want than Vista ever did or would. There were these same paddiwack conversations when ME vs XP began and well all see which OS won out in that debate as well. Final word is if you have Vista and like it, fine by me use it I don't care, but, don't go expecting every developer and publisher to support a lost cause just because you fell for the hype.
  2. Link to that page Looks to me like XP has got MANY more years of SUPPORT before it hits the shelves and you notice the upgrade windows OS is NOT Vista but WINDOWS 7 now. <cheshire cat grin> Vista has taken the path of ME and yep a lot of people fell for it when they should have waited or just had XP installed.
  3. Where does it say that in the house rules of Battlefront et al? There is no code that I know of that says ALL developers and publishers MUST provide service for EVERY OS it is THIER choice not ours ours is only whether we will buy the product or not and since I have XP I will surely buy it and every other product that THEY decide to support on XP. I'd venture to say the majority of their customers still run and use XP not Vista. Even Bill Gates doesn't want to support Vista any longer lol and if he's ready to put it to bed welp that means it's not worth the hassle of upgrading....need I remind you of the ME edition they put out before XP? If you bought into Vista welp you just got suckered by Bill Gates again is all it's not Battlefronts fault.
  4. Yep just like I get a good laugh out of igmo's myself on those boards. <cheshire cat grin>
  5. It's my understanding that when you buy a new computer (if you aren't skilled like some of us building your own) that you can request XP INSTEAD of Vista be installed as your operating system. Specialty shops will easily do this for you and you'll really get a better deal and a much better computer if you use a specialty shop over a retail store like Best Buy or Walmarts (they always have crap hardware installed on the motherboards and most gamers have to buy and reinstall better stuff anyways afterwards). I myself will not buy Vista or any other future OS until I absolutely have to and with the games I play that's gonna be a pretty long time as it was like 2005 before I even upgraded from Win98 to XP. I have my system purring playing new games and old DOS games using XP and I'll be damned if I upgrade just because something new is out there. Remember NEW doesn't always mean BETTER or FASTER. I don't play shooters and scooters so I don't really care about the glitz and glamor of a faster card. Long as my wargames will play and those from Battlefront, Matrixgames, Paradox and HPS/Sharapnal do I don't really care what the rest of the world does. So, if you bought or upgraded to Vista you've just joined the rest of the fools in the world that follow the pied piper of technology. lol
  6. Doubt it will be Vista compatible and using latest graphics cards. You shouldn't be in such a hurry to upgrade when there's really nothing out there worth using Vista in the first place. Maybe in another 2 years or so for the graphics card. Upgrading to play one game or even a couple is rather stupid though. Besides Vista has basically been chitcanned for Windows 7 now. Just like Milenium edition was chitcanned for XP.
  7. Does that mean I can still buy it offline like in a jewel case Moon and only have to use online for registering the CD key? I want no ties to online and having to be online to play it. I don't have a problem with registering online like Matrixgames does it, is that the way it is here?
  8. I agree markl an e-license would kill me wanting to buy it. I like physical copies of all my games. I just will not direct download one. If I can't get it at Amazon.com or in a brick n mortar store I just won't buy it. Don't care if it has a box, jewel case is just fine. Though I would prefer a printed manual I can give that up as long as I can still get a phycical shipment.
  9. Agreed Redwolf and the other sadness is every one of these companies and developers always move on to the ultimate #2 or #3 version of the same ole same ole without ever touching the "Pacific War" side of things. Steel Panthers series is the only one that gave us everything. I just wished the CM series had of done this as well.
  10. Lol me too Pascal me too. I was totally disappointed in ToW and CMSF, but, have kept my head up that the Western Front WW2 game/module they bring out of the CMX2 series will be 100x better. But, Campaigns has been on my radar ever since it was mentioned. And I highly doubt CMBB or CMAK(eto) will ever leave my hard drive either. The graphics don't bother me, it's the immersion of the complete game(s) I enjoy of both of them. The distanct sounds of battle, the tracers of the weapons, the screams, the moans everything about them is almost real. Only thing or maybe two things I will be disappointed in with CMC will be no randomness or random generated campaigns. That would have put it over the top I think.
  11. Bye (I'll never understand why people take the trouble to post "I'll never look at this game" messages in forums. I'd rather be posting in forums where I hang out and have fun than doing it. Experience shows that such people will do the opposite of what they're saying they will - moving on - so I will take the time to respond). We're going to release CMC for those who want it because we feel that we owe something to that community. If this means that we'll sell 8 copies (or give them away for free), so be it. Nobody is going to force you to buy it (or even look at it) if you don't like. As for my Vista comments - they're based on what we saw in our tech support so far as well as what I had to go through myself to get it running properly on a new laptop. Your mileage may vary. I heard that Microsoft announced that Vista is going to be replaced quickly with the next version. I know that for me personally Vista means that my next desktop will be an iMac And I also know that Charles is going to switch his maind coding back to the Mac in the future, too Having said that, obviously we're going to have to be compatible with whatever "main" OS for the PC is out there in the future. So we'll dutifully oblige for future games of course. Generally other games have no influence on what we do - or don't do - at all. This whole them vs. us thing is only in your head. I don't know PZC other than what had leaked to our forums and heard that it had a lot of problems initially, so it's great if they solved those. Not that I care, but if it means that you have found a game you like, I'm happy for you. It won't change our future planning or games design at all, however. CMC in particular needs fairly little effort to "whip it into shape". The key is that it needs a combined effort of all involved after all this time, which is what we have initiated now. Obviously we think that the game idea and design is good enough to warrant this effort and that the game will find CMx1 fans that will really appreciate what it offers. I don't know anything else like it, to be honest. But it's clear also that it's coming very late and that it is not a "mass-market product". We are making this for the existing CM fanbase, which is still bigger than that of many other - newer - games. If you "moved on", then obviously CMC is not for you, and we're perfectly happy to live with that Martin </font>
  12. Yeah I love it cause it gives us something to read and laugh at from time to time. laughing Also like this below post hahahahahah Guess he doesn't know about the CHOICE if customers want Vista or XP installed on their systems when they buy them or that XP is still alive and will continue to be the OS of the future until Windows 7 now. Vista is dead deadhead if you bought into it well you just failed. It's going to go down in history just like the ME OS did. You got sukered not the rest of us. I also love these VISTA OR ELSE type posts lol it's like the noobs saying WOW is going to go down and fail hahahaha [ April 27, 2008, 03:52 PM: Message edited by: Kellysheroes ]
  13. I think it's safe to say more people have XP than Vista and the developers of BF should't put a whole lot of effort or resources into making it work on Vista than they should work on just getting it out for XP.
  14. I'm so looking forward to this as I wasn't really impressed with Kharkov, dunno exactly why, but, it's something niggling and everytime I load it I just get a sick feeling to my stomach? Maybe it's like cheating on your wife? I was so dedicated to Combat Mission (until that disaster CM:SF) it was like she cheated on me first. But, being the great guy that I am it doesn't feel good cheating on her.
  15. Lol nope. I don't care for modern fantasy warfare games like CM:SF.
  16. Sorry, but I too am one of those once you give me a WHOLE SACK OF CANDY I'm gonna be pretty pissed when you only start giving me one piece of candy at a time. I think this module system is going to get tired before it begins good. People are going to see it's just a donkey milking process of chopping CMBO/CMBB and CMAK into modules and just selling each for some near full retail price. A lil change in an engine and some more pretty pictures and doesn't even really feel like the old series at all and oh I'm betting $35 a pop for each module. I didn't buy into CM:SF and I'm not sure I will buy into the rest now after seeing all the issues and problems with CM:SF. It must be pretty bad you can get it for like $7.00 on Amazon.com now.
  17. Kharkov It's coming with a Random Campaign Generator not even BF's version was going to have that. And it's the Eastern Front from 41 to 45. The two engines aren't that much different and why keep waiting on something that looks like it's never coming. Get over to Matrixgames today and get your copy and enjoy.
  18. Have to say this, but, only fools would upgrade to Vista at this time or even buy a new computer with it in it. It has so many bugs and flaws it's rediculous. I have no symphathy for anyone who gets Vista on purpose. You've read the horror stories about it so why did you do it? I will not move from XP just like I did not move from WIN98 until it is no longer supported. There is no reason to upgrade from WinXP just because of Directx 10?? haha there's like nothing out there that even uses it that is worth getting or having it yet for. Some people are like the mice in the story of the pied piper they will follow anything because someone else did. lol
  19. Very good post John. I concur. Though I found a way to beat the system of the market and the man a long time ago. It's called "don't buy it when it releases". It's also called wait till it's bargain bin priced or someone sells it used. I've beaten the man an I've beaten the system. I found it all too common for the man and the system to abuse it's position and release faulty buggy software out of the box as common practice and not as an oops. Many even fully admit to releasing unfinished products nowadays. It's become some psychological brainwashing of the masses to accept this practice. But, if you can unbrainwash yourself from accepting this bs then you will win out in all catagories. When you do finally buy the game you will not only have saved yourself money, but, anquish and you will get a finshed and complete product when the last patch goes down. Oh it might be a year later or so, but, so what? You waited this long on the product, what's another few months or a year? I'm now in a mode of buying games 1 or 2 years past and it's great for my pocket book and I haven't been anquished by a purchase in years buying software this way.
  20. The problem with online registration only is that if/when the company goes bellyup (and we all know they all go bellyup eventually in this part of the gaming industry) and you have to reinstall your game on another computer or reformat or something you lost your game. It would be better to have a setup like Matrixgames. Where you can download the exe, run the install register your game and then the game is ALWAYS open for reinstall even if matrixgames goes out of business. They allow you to make a backup copy of the game after downloading and registration that you can burn on a cd/dvd (patches included). This is the best method. I personally won't buy or recommend to any other person games with this type of registration. So, if that means Combat Mission Campaigns and Shock Force and future modules of it also are going to require this "lame" online registration everytime I install the game or need to reinstall it then they won't be getting anymore of my money and I'll be sure an relay this information to all my friends and relatives and aquaintances as well.
  21. Sorry, but, I just don't buy that mess Moon put out about bad design for blah blah. To me not having the "popular" elements of game design within the design is just "bad game design". Not having entering urban houses/buildings, no 88's, no on board mortars is as bad as buying a Lamborgini or Mazaradi and the "designer" says, oh sorry, but, we didn't include "air conditioning". But, it's still a great car and goes just fast. lol Bad game design plain and simple.
  22. I don't believe this game is as anticipated as Combat Mission Campaigns. So, why don't you go finish that one now. The one that is MOST anticpated. Thanks
  23. Please don't use Gamespy as a method to play the game MPer. I hate Gamespy. MSN's The Zone would work just fine for me.
