  1. One nit of a complaint. I do not like the way CMBB displays casualties prior to games. I never can remember which squad was injired during the round or came into the game injured. I like the idea of not always starting out at full strength. However, I would prefer it if they did not display the missing men as casualties. Hobo
  2. As the owner of this thread, let me be the first one to say from NJ: I GOT MINE Your Order Number is: 81965 You placed your order on: Wednesday; September 11; 2002 at 8:58 PM Any late night interest in a TCP/IP game? Hobo@mindpulse.com Out!!!!!
  3. Please provide location and order number or date. When this is all said and done we will know more about fullfillment systems than UPS
  4. Nothing in NJ Whats up with the east coast? I thought that was the home to BTS and BFC. Hobo
  5. 2 games completed yesterday and one to go (head 4 hills) with 4 turns left. Hopefully we can complete it this weekend. I can see the barn Hobo
  6. I am halfway through Yelnia as the Ruskies and have had to change my tactics 100%. My plan as successfully done with CMBO was to probe with infantry and then punch with armor. I now feel I must probe with armor and punch with infantry. It will be interesting playing real live opponents. This game seems so different I am not sure if playing CMBO is an advantage or disadvantage. Hobo
  7. 87-13 on the first try using extreme FOW. However I think I was pretty lucky as I must have had 20 hits from their 45 mms and lost only 3 tanks. The key as was mentioned before was using the terrain to your advantage and the covered arcs command. There was this Russian tank doing a shoot and scoot every turn. It would pop up and a round and hid again. I directed 4 tanks from different angles to focus a very narrow beam on the spot he was popping up and and scored 2 hits and a kill the next turn. This is really going to change the way we play PBEMs. A few other comments: - I love the supersonic bullet sounds and tank muzzle blasts. - I think I like the extreme FOW. I would like a little more info on the infantry but they have done a great job modeling what i should know on tank and gun hits. If you really want to test (or torture yourself) turn off the "detailed armor hits". I was not brave enough for that one. - I am struggling with the new interface but think I will like it shortly. - I want the damn game!!! Regards, Hobo
  8. I have hit the summer dolldrums. 2 done early (St Mere and Another Day) and three moving at a snails pace. Ozzie and the I Man are sending files sporatically and have taken my time with Fire on the Mountain. I think we will finish by the deadline but not much earlier. Hobo
  9. I know I am wasting my typing, but I really wish BTS would incorporate these rules into the game. I cannot imagine it would take much work. It sure would be nice to keep the guys throughout a campaign. One problem that cannot be fixed by these rules is that the leaders and their skills change with each game. - Hobo
  10. AAR - The Longest Day Let me tell you about my day in WWII. I was a newly minted captain with a shiny new company. I landed in Normandy on DD+5 and told to move my boys into a nameless french village at dawn. We were making good time when getting to our objective when a few Jerrys come into view. We called in some 81 and 155 arty and that seemed to hold them back as we moved into town and assumed a defensive postures. However, the Germs regrouped and attacked our position with an entire infantry FJ infantry battallion. 2 Coys came at us in the center and another attacked our left flank. I quickly noticed that they were as inexperienced as my boys. The arty helped tremendously but it soon turned into hand 2 hand combat. We took alot of casualties as some of my men broke and got mowed down by flanking fire. Running out of ammo I pulled back from the town and retreated to safety just outside of town. Needless to say the old man was pissed at our results and ordered us to immediately take the town. He even sent us a Sherm to help out. I could only muster a full platoon so I decided to probe the outskirts of town on the right flank. I pushed to the edge of town but had to retreat when a hidden AT gun took out the sherm. Exhausted and depleted of ammo my boys retreated to our jump off town to rest for the night. I was surprised that the battalion had moved out to a new position leaving sus the entire town to rest in. Unfortunately luck struck again at dusk when we heard armor mmoving at us. Evidently the Germans were trying to reach sea and destroy our source of supply. We were able to collect and handful of zooks to hold the huns back. I was shocked (probably due to the exhaustion) at the amount of force the Germans were able to attack us with. There must have been a dozen Stugs, a couple of Panzers and a 2 coys of infantry. We were able to kills 6 or 7 tanks and a couple of HTs where we ran out of both men and ammo and pulled our few remaining boys out of town. I took a round to the hip and shoulder and had to be evacuated. There were only 17 healthy troopers from the force I attacked the village in the AM. The good news is my boys killed 4 times as many germans and a fair number of tanks and stalled their attack on our bridgehead. The company was so decimated that it was disbanded and the remaining troops sent to the replacement pool. I went home and recovered and lived to tell this tell. While I only fought for a day in Normandy, it was the longest day of my life. Captain Clark US Army 1944
  11. Two games down and I have a few tweaks for you to consider: 1. For immediate attacks, add 70% chance of attacking same german unit type and +1 modifier on whether the force is known. 2. Mortars will never gain experience because they should not lose men and almost never get credit for a kill. One idea would be to give 2 exp points for every KIA recorded and share that among all of the surviving units. Even a unit that hides in the cellar during a battle gains experience between battles as all of the units talk about the last battle. 3. Give favor for KIA ratio. something like 5 points for 2:1 KIA, 10 points for 3:1 KIA, -5 points for 1:2. Thats it for now. Regards, Chris
  12. Wreck - Great system. During my first battle generation I had more arty points than the QB would allow. I also had -80 and thus no auxilary points to spend (cheap bastards). So instead of adding the 100 arty points that I must lose to the auxilary, I just increased the size of the battle one level and kept the arty. I am a little confused by the aux selection. Does this make more sense? Regards, Hobo
  13. Hobo? Wo bist du? I have sent the turn I owe you twice. If you have not received it, please post here to that effect. 4 games complete, 1 to go... -------------------- I am here. The last file I received from you was last Monday. Keep sending it. I just finished my first game so I have more time to devote to your assault. Regards, Chris
  14. I have been using and loving the same small ISP for almost 10 years now. Unfortunately the CM RoW tournament has brought it to its knees. It cannot seem to tolerate several large e-mail messages coming in at the same time. My question to you fine folks is do you have any recommendations for a switch. My requirements are as follows: 1. No Busy signals 2. No e-mail problems 3. No annoying adds 4. Relatively affordable 5. Honors provacy Note - I do not have access to DSL or cable where I live. Thanks, Hobo
  15. Ozzie Osbourne - Please confirm you have not recieved any of my messages? Thanks, Hobo
  16. My hats off to the scenario designers. I have seen all 5 of them and they look lovingly created and a lot of fun to play. Great tourny Treeburst. Out Hobo
  17. Ted did the exact same thing for me. He is the type of guy that turn web sites into true communities. Chris
  18. This really isn't fair. Please take my money, now! - Chris
  19. Witco, Load up on the geritol because the setup is in the mail. Hobo
  20. Its a little bit late, but I must express first my sincere and absolute appreciation to STed for putting on this show. It is guys like Ted that make the web and the CM community work. Secondly I also must express my congratulations to Witco for cleaning my clock in the second round. He played a great game in Give and Take and built up a lead that I could not overcome. He made very few mistakes and never allowed me back into the game. For his next opponents, be forwarned, his a very tactically sound player. I like my strategy, but I could never execute well enough to unseat him. I am off to try my luck as a LTC of an infantry battalion in the world of CMMC. A world like I have never before seen or imagined. Best Regards, Chris AKA Hobo
  21. Hey Ted - I recommend throwing out give and take and having us play another game.......That way I will get one more game before being ousted from this most enjoyable tournament. - Hobo
  22. I know this is a little bit late, but I want to add my .02 on Give and takes balance. I played the German side and lost 67-33 to Witco. Though I must say the game was closer than the score indicated. For Newbies, I think the German side is more difficult to play because you have to think pretty far ahead to get the old farts to do what you want. However, I bet if a couple really experienced players tried it, the results would be pretty even or maybe even tilt a little towards the Germans. You have so many troops, if used effectively you can bleed the Canadians dry. We are going to put my theory to test and play it again from the other side once we are through this round. Cheers, Chris
  23. I must agree with Jester. BTS will get my money for every game they create. However, with that being said there is a major market for taking their engine and using it in an operational size game. I would pay double for such a game. I only wish had the venture cap. to make such an investment Maybe next life. - Hobo
  24. Witco and Hobo are fully engaged in "Give or Take". Witco has sent a probe into Hobo's line. It is starting to get tense and we are only in round 3. Over and Out, Chris
  25. May your first act as President be to take some more of our money and allow us to preorder CMBO. That is once you have sobered up. Good Luck, Hobo
