rocketman
Got the game yesterday and I'm blown away by how good it is. As soon as I get used to the interface I'll definitely try this one. Pointe du Hoc is intriguing to say the least. One question though - the mods, do I just put them as the are in a "Z"-folder in Data folder?
theFightingSeabee
rocketman (cool name by the way, you ever seen this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN3MGN899yE), Yes, just create a folder in the Data folder named "z". Then unzip the mods and drop them in the z folder. That's it! Have fun!
rocketman
Man, that video was surreal...to say the least. Thanks on the advice concerning mods. Now I just have to find time to play in the middle of a work week...sigh...
Sarjen
My hats to you theFightingSeabee. Superb scenario and great map. I visited the area last year and its cool to see it in "action".
rocketman
I'm only 15 min into the battle, but so far it has been one of my all-time CM-moments, so I tip my hat to your effort. Also, great ambient sound mod and a big plus for the link in the designer's note.
sawomi
Also from me many thanks for this to theFightingSeabee. Got the AI to surrender playing it as the Rangers of course at the first try. Up the cliff and then systematicaly inwards on broad front. 30% wounded+killed+missed.
theFightingSeabee
Thanks rocketman. It was s lot of work, so its nice that people are enjoying it. The link is really cool and if you watch it, this scenario is much better! I recommend it to everyone.
theFightingSeabee
Thanks sawomi, sounds like you played it fairly historically. I'm really considering making this into a 3 mission mini campaign. Your results atte prefect for what happens next... Namely some horrific German counter attacks that push the rangers back to the Pointe.
rocketman
I have now finished the scenario and it was great (but I ran out of ammo too soon...). One minor bug was that one of the MG-teams never made it off the beach. No matter which movement command I used, only three of the four guys climbed the cliff. One of them remained on the beach (the one with the MG) and after that they were stuck. Maybe the game engine isn't flexible enough for these steep cliffs in all kinds of situations.
theFightingSeabee
Yeah rocketman, the cliff thing is more of a bug than anything. I did try to optimize the "ropes" because the original way I had it looked better but caused sticking of some guys at the top of the cliff. The scenario can easily be beat with the ammo supplied, so you'll maybe have to watch that, but you should be low. The real Rangers actually did run extremely low on ammo after the first day and actually had to use some of the German weapons to fight off counterattacks and were not resupplied for a couple of days. I hope, at the least, you had a lot of fun!
rocketman
I had indeed a lot of fun. Well done! By the way, is there a chance that you're about to make a scenario for the coming days fighting around Pointe du Hoc (like described in the video you linked to)?
theFightingSeabee
I have been in contact with boche about a campaign following the 2nd Rangers. It would start in pointe du hoc and move out from there. If we do it, it won't be ready for some time.
kptom
I was wondering if the crash on Mac bug was fixed? I just downloaded the scenario today (along with the mod pack), and I crash at about 74% during the load.
theFightingSeabee
kptom, I'm not sure. Make sure you're fully patched and try again. If you already are, then I can't help you. Sorry man, I'd love for Mac users to be able to play Pointe du Hoc.
Guest
A fix for Pointe du Hoc will be in the next patch.
kptom
A fix for Pointe du Hoc will be in the next patch. Excellent!!
A Canadian Cat
A fix for Pointe du Hoc will be in the next patch. That is excellent. Clarification question is this a Mac only fix for something specific to Pointe du Hoc? Or is this a platform independent fix that will improve things for a wide range of scenarios? The curious are curious.
Guest
It's Mac-only. It is something that comes up consistently with Pointe du Hoc, but could pop up in other scenarios as well.

sgtstinky
Any word on the Mac patch? I'm really looking forward to playing this bit of Ranger history!! Stink "RLTW"
Guest
This should be fixed in Commonwealth / the 1.10 patch. Let me know if there are further issues.
