WWI: Game will not boot...S.O.S.

Recommended Posts

Please tell me that the game is fantastic and that you are having a great time with it!

Looking for any advice with regards to booting the game, after downloading I found that the game would not boot. I looked in the repair desk but could not find any posts other than a problem related to the license key. I did notice that my security program had an issue with the WWI launch and wanted to "Sandbox the Launch". I selected the not to sandbox option and have since disconnected the security program as well as the built in Windows security center and have rebooted the computer several times.

The help desk does not have the WWI program listed in the drop down menu so I don't seem to be able to place a help ticket. I'm thinking that I try reloading the game now that my security system has been tamed:rolleyes:

I am operating with a Vista OS, and advice would be appreciated.

Hi!

Any encrypted program has a chance of being flagged by anti-virus or similar security software, especially if the settings for that software allow it to "guess" (called "heuristic scanning"). Our new Online Activation System has a number of significant improvements in this regard, and we also employ digital code signing as a means to signal to the AV program that our games are safe and untampered. However, not all AV programs are made equal, and there is always a chance for a "false positive". If you google around you will notice that noone is safe from this, not even the multi-billion dollar publishers.

Anyway, if your AV program is acting up (even though it shouldn't), then you did the right thing in "taming" it. Simply re-install again.

We're going to add SCWW1 as an option in the Helpdesk categories shortly (although of course you can submit a ticket nevertheless, even without it, it's not a required field).

Thank you for your reply, I will reinstall.

Computer #2 (laptop) running XP will not start the program. Initially had the invalid product key message, I followed your manual fix to the best of my ability, now I get the error message "Setup not responding" (this after re-downloading the program). I'm really really sure where to go with this...disappointed.

I was able to download fine and activate it manually with no issues. However I am unable to start a game. The menu & music come up fine, but when I have clicked on new game or settings it just hangs there with the music playing. On new game it did say loading but been over 10 minutes now. 2nd attempt. I restarted my compter with no luck. All the other sc games such as global work fine. Any suggestions? (Running XP)

Regarding the title menu hanging issue I think I found the problem and I apologize that this was not discovered during testing. Unfortunately it looks like it was one of those system setups that never cropped up.

From what I can tell the problem only occurs when you play at a resolution setting greater than what your current desktop resolution setting is set at.

For example, if your current desktop resolution is set at let's say 1650x1080 then if you chose to play the game at a higher resolution such as 1900x1200 the game hanging issue appears at the title screen.

To temporarily correct this I would suggest to navigate to your SC WWI installation folder where you will find the file called SC2.ini. Open this file and locate the following lines:

#ORIGINAL_SCREEN_WIDTH=

#ORIGINAL_SCREEN_HEIGHT=

Next locate the following lines and ensure that they have the same values by changing these entries and NOT the 'ORIGINAL' values:

#WINDOW_WIDTH=

#WINDOW_HEIGHT=

Alternatively if you do a full uninstall and reinstall and ensure that you select a resolution that is less than or equal to your current desktop resolution that will also do the trick.

I hope this helps,

Hubert
