Armchair_Ranger
I dont know if the CMSF demo has anything to do with this, but after trying out the demo last night for about an hour or so my internet explorer started getting this graphical bug. Everytime I switch to a different page there would be these squares across the screen which looked like bits of the previous page. Sometimes they went away after closing a page and reopening another. This morning I'm not seeing this bug so far. But could it have been caused by the demo? I was playing it in max graphics settings btw.
dieseltaylor
Perhaps you should try the Technical Forum or start a thread on CMSF, or do a search. This forum is for interesting stuff : )
Moon
The game demo itself is not connected in any way with your browser, so I don't see how it could be causing anything like that. Did you install the Browser Toolbar? It's an optional part of the demo.
Armchair_Ranger
No, I did not install the toolbar. Could this have been a memory leak or VRAM related bug caused by the demo?
Moon
Nope. If there were memory leaks or VRAM bugs in the demo, they would be in the game, too, and there are none.
Armchair_Ranger
Well this is why I put this thread in the General forum, it's probably nothing to do with the demo. Could it have been caused by the video card being too hot? Now I was also letting a 53 minute Youtube video load in the background for about an hour or so. I only saw this bug after watching the video.
Moon
...Youtube video... Now THAT sounds like a MUCH more probable explanation for problems with your browser
Armchair_Ranger
Soo then you know of no cases whatsoever in which neither the demo nor the full game has ever caused any permanent damage to someone's hardware and it should be safe for me to run the demo again?

Inadequate cooling is the only thing that could permanently damage your hardware and that is not CMSF's fault. Take the side of your case or something or check your fans for dust. I used to have a cheap little video card with a heatsink but no fan and that could not handle the strain. I had to open the side of my case and point a desk fan into it!
Armchair_Ranger
Well I wasnt running the video while playing CMSF, I was watching the video afterwards. Also, was playing a few games all day today and so far have not encountered the same bug. My video card is an EVGA 9800GTX+. It's got a fan. There's also a 7 inch fan on the side of my case and is pretty close to the video card.
Meach
I have the same thing. Strange graphic artifacts along internet explorer. Don't think it's anything to do with CMSF in any incarnation.
Meach
Update... I installed Service Pack 3 for Windows XP and it seems to have fixed the issue.
MeatEtr
I have an idea for you ancient IE users, use a real browser like Firefox. With the right add-on, pop-ups and ads are long gone.

I've had SP3 since it came out. Dont think it had anything to do with that. That night was about the only time I ever saw this sort of graphical bug with my IE. Still hasnt happened again since then.
