John Kettler
Just read about the fatal quake which hit your South Island, killing 65. http://theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com/ I don't like seeing people killed or injured, but I particularly hope none of the Forum Members and their loved ones got hurt, killed or dehoused. I say this from the perspective of someone who has nearly lost close friends from quakes. Regards, John Kettler

Affentitten
I did have a wry smile at the footage of a guy in business clothes wielding a sledgehammer as he tried to free people from one of the crush buses. Only a Kiwi would have a sledgehammer handy during his day at the office. If there is a zombie apocalypse, team up with a Kiwi.
Affentitten
I note that there is a tall, quake damaged building called the Hotel Grand Chancellor in the middle of Christchurch that is going to topple. Any word on whether it has been pre-chambered? Or will the pre-chambering occur on the buildings around it that will be inevitably 'pulled'?

Cpl Carrot
It has certainly been an interesting few days. I was thinking on the Monday that it had been a while since I had felt a rumble. The house I live in (rental) survived well, and have power and water (limited use of course and must be boiled if for drinking) on, plus sewage. Plenty of my work colleagues not so fortunate. As long as I keep busy, I am coping OK.
Michael Emrys
Plenty of my work colleagues not so fortunate. As long as I keep busy, I am coping OK. Jeez, man. Wikipedia is reporting over a hundred deaths so far. Things must be pretty rough. Hang in there, we're pulling for you. Michael
Stalins Organ
Officially 146 last I heard - over 200 still missing, but many of them may be unidentified but known deceased. So far I only know of a couple of the deceased 2nd and 3rd hand - former colleagues of a current colleague and a friend. Mum & Dad's house is "red stickered" - not fit for habitation, but whether it is repairable or not will take longer to decide. Edit- it may be of interest to some that the dead are expected to come from 20 countries & I have heard that some of the Japanese language students in the CTV building were budding pilots - brushing up on their English before proceeding to a flight school in Hamilton - they arrived a week or so earlier .
Stalins Organ
FYI they are now saying that of the 200 missing, 147 are identified as deceased, and "about 50" are still missing.
