John Kettler
Caught a little bit of Ultimate Weapons: Robots on the Military Channel last night, just in time for most of the segment on the remarkable Elbit VIPeR. Call the approach to transmitting power to the ground astounding: a speedy wheel which can morph into tracks for tasks such as stair climbing. Thought at first I was imagining things when I first saw the shift accomplished! http://defense-update.com/newscast/0307/news/080307_viper.htm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ST4-i-z0rWs Regards, John Kettler
MikeyD
Heh, I've got to admit my first thought was what if an eight year old walks over and places a carboard box on top it
John Kettler
MikeyD, Good one! Might not be much fun if it's the armed version, though. Am curious as to whether the core technology would work on a full size AFV. Regards, John Kettler
Other Means
Doubt it as it looks like it needs elasticity in the tracks.
Elmar Bijlsma
Looks like a very good technology to make a wheel or tracked vehicle twice as expensive as it needs to be. The US Army is gimmick addicted.
