Threaded optimization OFF for Nvidia cards!!!!

Recommended Posts

i just played around tweakin my framerate becouse the game runs a bit too bad for the Pc its played on.

first i tried kompatibility(bad spelling i think)mod for win98, suprisingly this gave me some more frames. at that point i didnt measured it becuse i though it wont add much. but things got feelable more smoot.

as i shut CM down it didnt do properly, it hung with balck screen and needed to be turned off by TaskManager no big deal but not ideal so i was looking for something else.

there i came to threaded optimization and thought about TOW. well, i turned it off, and it was a blast :D

i measured it with fraps, same scenario, same still screen 22fps differenc between on and off.

where i had 28fps minimum i hav 50fps minimum now...finaly i can play bigger scenarios :D

and for even bigger scenarios someone can possibly try this kompat...- mode for win98 on top of that.

my system

heres my DXdiag, i deleted what i think isnt that important and just makes this post much longer as needed. if its needed i can post it.

EDIT:

what i dont see in DXdiag, or i probably delete it...

i have WinXP pro SP2 and a intel coreduoE6400...

Could you try the Factory Outlet single mission with fraps? Specifically look all the way across the map from your side with a moderate height with the factory buildings in the background and your forces just in the foreground view? I already turned threaded optimization off in my card (8600GTS) and still drop to 6 FPS when in that view.

*SLIGHT SPOILER*

What I expected. Either this is normal, or some graphics LOD issue as suggested by another poster.

It's hard to play that scenario because it's murderous to look ahead to spot the incoming armor and such. Makes it hard to play......

Thanks for checking that Pandur! I only get about 6-7 frames, but I think the 7950GT is quite a bit more powerful than my 8600GTS. Not real happy with this card I purchased.

Wow, big difference. Thanks for that.

Machine:

C2D @ 2.13 Ghz

NVidia 7950GT 512 MB

2 Gigs of RAM

Here's my progression that's getting ~28 FPS on the airport mission in the campaign.

CPU Affinity: CPU 1

Threaded Optimization: Off

CM Shock Force Priority (in the Task Manager): Normal (down from High)

Shadows Off (in game, Alt-W)

That's with 2x AA and 2x AF turned on and Improved detail in game. With Shadows on, it drops to ~22 FPS.

With FRAPS off, it goes up but I can't tell by how much since FRAPS is off ;)

Sadly you're correct about the 8600 :( It's only real benefit is DX10 support.

[Edit]

Ok, originally I said that the change should have made the same difference but didn't.

Now, however, I can't get the same results to duplicate with ANY set of settings. I mean, I can get ~26 FPS but I'm getting it with any combination of settings, which doesn't correspond with any of my gameplay earlier today.

Pinning down frame rate improvement tweaks for CMSF is definitely more art than science :-p

I have a dual core Pentium 4 2.8Ghz CPU and a Nvidia 8800 GTS running under Vista, but for some reason in my control panel the "Threaded Optimization" option isn't listed? I'm running the latest 162.22 drivers, and I've seen the screenshot so i know exactly where this option should be. I also tried the 163.11 beta drivers, but I had the same problem. I can see both parts of the dual core in task manager, so it seems that Windows is definitely recognizing both cores.

I've tried the Nvidia forums and Nvidia tech support, but no one has been able to give me an answer as to why this option isn't available for me.

Has anyone else ran into this problem?

Any suggestions?

Think Threaded Optimization is set to Auto on mine, that good or bad. If you alt-tab out of a game thats trying to use dual core and set aff to 1 cpu, does that automatically turn off threaded optimization (if was on\auto) or does it then cause a conflict of some kind? (P4 3.4 D945,7950gt)

Tobe is there not a "Basic\Advanced Options" Dropdown window in Control Panel page, know in older drivers dont see Threaded Optimization till put it on Advanced.

Tobe when nvidia control panel is open click on "View" at top, choose "Advanced" then you will see Threaded Optimization in "Manage 3d Settings"

Also if anyone does'nt know, a program on Nvidia site called Nvidia nTune puts all the missing old plus new things back into control panel of new drivers (100 series) such as - Temperature monitoring - GPU overclocking - Cpu, Gpu, Sys Mem usage which can run in background etc. For Xp, Xp64, Vista, Vista64. Version is 5.05.47.00, its in the "platform\nforce drivers of Nvidia download page, and no it is'nt just for nforce boards (They just have more options)

I already have it on the advanced view and it's still not there. I'm not sure if this means it's off anyways? I wish I could at least try this setting because I'm only getting about 10 FPS right now.

If you have an 8800 series card, at least the gtx version, this setting makes little difference (if any).I fear the problems run deeper than a simple "sweet/suck" toggle switch for users of the highest end nvidia cards. Bear in mind, the original poster has a 7950, which seems to be the sweet spot vid card for this game. Believe me, i have tried every last little tweak in my toolkit to try to solve this one, and have resigned myself to visiting the boards frequently for the 'new patch released!' message, because that is what it is going to take for some of us.

Yeah, I have a 8800 GTX and have been having serious hang up and driver faliures. I have tried the cpu thing, I am thinking about going back to my last set of drivers as has been suggested in a diffrent Nvidia card. I hope that by wating for the new patch it will solve the problem, I am having no slow down or graphics in game problems just hanging up crshing and the video drivers stopping crashing the game.

any one else having similar problems. I am on Vista.
