AstroCat
Using the tutorial mission as the test. 1280 x 960, In game settings make a difference, but not much. FPS are very low, almost need to run on the lower settings to get even close ok FPS. I will do more testing but here is all my info. Other games run totally fine, everything maxed. AstroCat
Ok here are some stats… Game: Improved for both model and texture Vsync off No AA 1280x960 Driver: Everything set to app (No AA No Aniso) High Quality (no optimizations) LOD Bias = allow Force Mipmaps = none Gamma AA = off As you can see I made the settings very relaxed. The game looks very bad (shimmering, super bad aliasing, jagged shadows), and is not even worth playing looking this bad. But, it’s a good testing start. FPS: Tutorial Mission load up: 23fps Press #1 key = 15fps Move around = low teens Start game = low-mid teens The controls are very sluggish and unresponsive, this is probably because of the low FPS. So, there it is, needless to say I am very disappointed! With my system and after waiting so long to play this game to have it look so bad and run so slow is such a bummer. I am willing to try and help fix this problem because I really do want to be able to play this game, it’s been years I’ve been waiting! Cougar_DK
Sorry, didn't see this new tech forum, so here is my post in the correct forum: I have these problems too. Running an AMD XP 64 4400, Nvidia 6800 GTS 640 OC2, 2 GB Ram and XP Pro SP2 (Danish). I have tested all resolutions from 1024x768 to my native 1680x1050 and I get the same low frame rate at 10 when turning the camera around in Battle: Allahs Fist. W/o moving the camera at the start of the mission I get 10 FPS. When I turn it clockwise and moves past the first "top" my FPS goes to 55 and looking at my own tanks gives me about 30 FPS. As soon as the first smoke comes into view it drops to 10 FPS again. When the FPS drops to 10 the mouse is very hard to control and thereby playing the game in real-time pretty hard, since I'm moving toward that phase-line. I have tried to change settings from lowest to highest, and it only changes the max FPS. As soon as the "enemy units" around "Phase Line Charlie" come into view it drops. My DxDiag file: DxDiag
Dowarisch
Win XP SP2 with multi-core patch Intel Core2Duo 6600 2 gigs of Aeneon DDR2-800 BFG Nvidia 8800 GTS 320mb Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Never had problems with other games since setting up this rig 10 weeks ago, except CM. I just loaded a "naked" Windows with just the Nvidia drivers using Msconfig. No luck either, fps are around 20 and on the "Allahs Fist" Battle its even worse when I point the camera from my starting loc to the destination zone. AstroCat
Allahs First= same 10fps with my above settings... There is no way this can be correct!
rune
Cat, I just loaded on my system and blow away those frame rates. WHat driver are you using and did you apply the Microsoft hotifx? Rune
AstroCat
162.18 no dual core patch, yet. Making sure that I should do it.
molotov_billy
I've got 162.18 on both machines, both patched. Awful framerates. Having the same issue as AstroCat
AstroCat
Did you try the patch, if so, did it help?
Cougar_DK
I have tried the Microsoft patch (again) with no luck. And saw that Nvidia released the 162.18 drivers yesterday. Will try them and update my DxDiag file. The drivers didn't change anything. AstroCat
ugh ... wonder what is going on then. My system is totally a clean install and everything. I just tried some other games to make sure nothing was wrong and they ran super fast. Only CMSF has this problem.
Redwolf
I see you tried the affinity. Would you be able to disable the Creative soundcard for a test?
Dowarisch
Tried some different drivers: The ancient 97.92 158.22 162.18 ...no avail... Also updated my Bios (Asus P5B) and checked the drivers for my soundcard. Then disabled soundcard acceleration in Dxdiag but none of this helped.
AstroCat
Ok, not drivers... very strange. I have another totally different system. I am going to install there and see what happens... I'll report back.
Steiner14
I have two suggestions, if you can't find a solution in the settings and drivers: exchange the multicore CPU with a single core and see if the problem persists. Or: exchange the graphics card with an old one.
AstroCat
Ok, installed on this system: Same settings as mine but with 160.03 drviers. Actually this system was only 1 or 2 fps slower than mine. Something is going on here, and I am starting to believe it's not something on either of my setups. Remember the 2nd system I tried it on has been around a while. It has had tons of games installed and played on it and never had this issue. Dowarisch
Its certainly not our rigs, among the recent games I played were Supreme Commander, Lotro, Overlord and Stalker as well as some older titles and none of them ever gave me any trouble.
rune
And that has NOTHING to do with anything. Unless the game is opengl, which those are directx, you are comparing apples and oranges. Cat, you would be willing to help out a little. If you have a different nvidia card, toss it in the computer and remove the 8800 and see if you are getting the same thing? I have the exact same motherboard and slightly faster cpu, same memory and I do not see the issue with my 7800 card. Rune
AstroCat
Ok, give me a sec... I have 1 other system with a 8500GT, but that is in the same series. I agree a 7xxx series would be a better test, anyone?
Cougar_DK
I can confirm this. My rig runs rFactor, ArmA, Supreme Commander, IL-2 and SBPRO PE without any problems. The same goes for Galactic Civilization II which also had the dual core problems, this was solved by the Microsoft patch and AMD drivers. Will try to install CMSF on my old rig tomorrow (AMD XP2800, 768mb Ram and Ati 9800 XP Pro 256)
